  • The Dallas Police Department's Mounted Unit was established in 1982. After a pilot program that consisted of deploying mounted officers in highly burglarized areas proved successful, a permanent unit was established for the department. The mounted officers were able to reduce the number of offenses in the areas they patrolled and were well received by members of the community. The public relations aspect was apparent from the beginning, and the Mounted Unit has continually proven that a dedicated officer on horseback is a valuable contributor toward the overall police mission.
The Mounted Unit continues to make strides into its history. For the first time ever, there will be a total of three female officers joining the team at one time. Although this trio may not be the first female to join, they are the first to all pass the six-weeks rigorous training program at the Mounted Basic Riding School. In fact, this class, which was the most diverse class ever, is the first in Mounted history with a 100% passing rate.
The Mounted Unit would like to welcome their newest members; Senior Corporals Bobby Parrot, Tracy Morgan, Ana Vazquez, and Police Officers Brandon Roberson, Nadine Caley, and Zachary Johnson. Job Well Done!!!
