    This is a wonderful story, I sold my horse to the Chicago police many years ago. fortunately I hear he is one of their best horses and is always paired up with the newbies. I also hear that he was one of the fastest horses to come out of training because he already new it all. I want to thank the Chicago Police for taking care of my boy for all these years and giving him the joy of serving. I had to sell him because he was very allergic to bugs and this was a perfect set up if any of the officers read this ever he has a quarter size white mark on his neck under his mane and his former name was Taboo, he had a young girl love him once and is in my heart often.

    I’m happy for these horses, only problem is they use such strong bits at such a young age. My gelding is a retired police horse, only 11 years old, and he needs to be ridden in a western bit. I get so much hate for it but I can’t control him any other way.

      Not all departments use strong bits. I know some which only use snaffles. It really depends on the unit.

    I train horses and the one thing I don't understand is, if the police officer has to use a radio or gun, why do they use Pelham bits, which requires double reins? That is a lot to handle. I would think a Kimberwicke would be easier.

    • @annegulbransen3961
      @annegulbransen3961 Před 2 lety +1

      Different units use different bits. It’s the preference of the unit. I have seen other departments who ride in snaffles.

    • @annegulbransen3961
      @annegulbransen3961 Před 2 lety

      Since this is the city, they many not have the space for pastures. My college trains horses for mounted police work and starting at age 2 we stall train them. They still have half the day to be turned out but it prepares them for if they go to a department that wants to stall them.

      @@joligra as you can see from this video, they still have time to be turned out in the arena and and run around. It's really not as bad as you think. Many horses love their stalls.

    I think, if Tick is kicking his door, untill he gets the hay, he has no good manners. actually he would have to wait, untill he gets his hay *without* kicking. because the man is the Boss not the horse.

      No, i think, all horses shouldn't be in a Box! That isn't good for them, it is like a prison. Sorry for my english - it is important, that Horses can be outside of a pasture and have relationships with other Horses. To see them in smal boxes makes me very sad.

      @@PRHILL9696 No it isn't. It would be cruel to but human beings in danger. Our horses are put though an intense training schedule and if they don't fulfill all the steps they don't pass. We only graduate the best. The units we pair our horses with are so kind and love their animals. They always put themselves before the horse. I have witnessed first hand the bond between an officer and their mount and it is so amazing to see.
