Ive yet to encounter this problem at our dealership
100s if not 1000s of wings have passed through here since the 2018 model dropped.
Occasions like this get overblown and rile people up for no reason. Just like this fuel pump recall, we've never replaced a fuel pump in any 2018 and up Goldwing for pump failure, weve had 1 with a failed gauge that was caused by sitting in a crate for 2 years.
Quit calling your dealer about the recall if you have a 2018-2019 model, we aren't going to see parts until July, even then its controlled so we cant just order however many we want.
For 2020 and newer owners have your dealer inspect the number on the fuel pump, it may not need replaced anyway

Chris, I wouldn't worry too much, at this time. Since 18 came out, how many bikes Honda has out there? We would hear a lot more, by now. We see 6 gen Wings with over 100K already and zero problems. Thanks for this.

Thank you Cruise. Alway appreciate you getting some words out there. I saw Doc’s video a week ago as well. For the moment we don’t have clear specific details yet. As you mentioned and I agree as I have read within the FB sites and Forums regarding other high mileage riders with the 6th generation with no spoken issues. One cat, Phil Steiner well known for his ability to rack up some pretty high mileages on his prior generation Wings with video of those odometers, now owns a 2023 DCT Tour which just turned 100k+ miles. A YT video of his odometer and that achievement is out there as well. No mention of issues. Sounded like all blissful miles. He also includes a list of services done. Going forward. Fingers crossed.

The problem of a seizing engine seems like a pretty significant safety hazard. I wonder if this problem is initiated by poor shifting or other abuse from the operator. I've seen people who can destroy just about anything.

Not sure if this is related but last Xmas 2023, my 2019 Manual Tour got stuck in 1st Gear without any warning (had 44K miles). Got it towed to the dealer where I bought it, my warranty had already expired so instead of paying the potential nightmare repair costs I traded it in for a brand new 2023 GW Tour manual. I never did find out what broke inside the transmission.

I've got a buddy at a major dealership in California that's never had to replace a fuel pump on a Goldwing 6th Gen and never seen one with the bolt shattering issue. And he says they have sold over a hundred Goldwings and serviced even more.
I'm picking up a new 2023 Goldwing this weekend after owning a 2022 and putting 8k on it. I am not worried at all by this. It's been 6 years and for it to surface now it can't be that frequent as no one i know has had it and I know a fair few wing owners.. I totally trusted my 2022 and I don't expect the new one to be any different. Now if they could just upgrade the eletronics. I am getting rid of my Indian Chieftain Darkhorse and it's electronics are light years ahead of the Goldwings.

I saw an accident a couple years ago where a gentlemen on a 2018 or 2019 model Goldwing was thrown from the motorcycle. This took place near Lake Whitney but at the time we thought it had maybe been the rear end that caused the motorcycle to lock up. I'm not sure what type of transmission this motorcycle had, but the guy said that the motorcycle just stopped rolling and shut off. I hope this isn't something that's been going on for a while and Honda has just decided not to acknowledge that this as a real problem.

One thing Mental Health treatments focus on with CBT is the thought process of Catastrophising, it becomes more common as we age and social media is implicated in it. So if there is a few bikes that this has happened to then you may well be correct but some of the responses I read here are definitely going down this bumpy road, so thanks for highlighting that there has been some failures but do bear in mind that no it hasn’t been happening to a large percentage of bikes or even moderate to small, so if your machine is correctly maintained and used then it’s highly unlikely to let you down, so go ride it and enjoy it

The Goldwing finally becomes a cool sport touring performance bike, and then turns into a diaster for Honda with the worst catastrophic engine problem of all time. Kawasaki had a similar problem with their beautiful masterpiece, the ZX-12R Ninja, which had to be immediately discontinued, because there was no way to properly fix the oil pump problems. That's why Kawasaki made the bizzare ZX-14R.

My coworker put on his oil filter on his new motorcycle and forgot to remove the OEM factory filter rubber O-ring that was somehow stuck on the engine block. Sometimes when I take off from a stop on my 2020 DCT Tour, it will stay in one gear for a while like it's stuck and then change. Wonder if anyone else has experienced this and could it be related to the transmission issue? Otherwise, no problems.

I have the exact same bike and yes, it did that to me as well. When I brought it up to my dealer's attention, they said they tested it and "all is normal". And then it stopped misbehaving (or maybe the dealer did something to alleviate the problem and didn't tell me?). Maybe it's just the transmission working itself in? Anyway, what I ended up doing when the tranny got stuck, I'd just use the paddle upshifter and once in second, it would go merrily on its way. Greetings from the Great White North!

Look at it this way, at 69 odds of a stroke or heart attack get higher every year and I'm taking it in stride, just like the bolt failure, just saying.......Maybe they picked the wrong alloy in their general effort to "make it lighter." If the bolt is breaking sounds like they have made it to hard, the harder the steel the more brittle.

My 2023 DCT Airbag GL1800 is being delivered tomorrow and I've only discovered the fuel pump, weak engine underside and steering head bolt cracking issues this last few days😒 I got a great deal on the bike and I loved my old 5th gen wing. I contacted Honda UK and they said the fuel pump recall is only for the USA and that European bikes are fine? I don't believe them! There is no way that we in the EU & UK have different fuel impellers to the US market. They will just be sorting the problem in the US first and we'll go through it in 6 - 12 months time. I'm buying the Traxxion engine guard plate and steering bolt to fix the other 2 issues. This engine self destruct is worrying but as you say, as a safety problem it will have to be sorted by Honda regardless of the warranty - probably a good idea not to modify anything to do with the engine or ECU performance flash etc until it is sorted👍

Regarding the fuel pump the answer is under the seat. You can see the top of the fuel pump and it has a stamp on it that will tell you if you are potentially affected. Cruiseman has a video on it I suggest you check it out.

Sounds like it might be a random box of bad bolts leading to random failures. Honda should institute a blanket recall to replace the potential problem bolts. Got to be a better plan than scraping riders off the tarmac and waiting for the inevitable lawsuits.

Beginning to regret selling my 05 for the 19 now. I had planned a cross country tour this year, but thinking I'll take the Super Tenere' instead of the Wing. Honda, both cars and bikes, have declined in their reliability as of late. I have a 20 Ridgeline that has 3 open recalls, most serious being the fuel pump issue as well. My 09 Accord has been flawless with over 100k miles on it. Mr Honda would be fuming if he were alive today. The younger engineers are leaving a lot to be desired....

I would hope that the people who bash Harleys specifically the Pan America watch this video.
Also the videos about issues with other brand motorcycles.
The 2021 Pan Americas where the most problematic as they were first year production .
Things have improved dramatically over the past 3 years.
That being said I have owned several Honda motorcycles and they were excellent bikes.
It seems now that the more techno all bikes have become the odds of having some issues are more prevalent no matter the manufacturer.

Yeah.. let us know about your experience with ’recalls’. This is so much a safety issue. I’m expecting the engine lock up would lock up the rear wheel of the DCT especially with no means to disengage the clutch! I’m still preparing for my trips though. I’m not parking because of information on the internet. Honda will be in contact if I am at risk…. I hope. JT

I had a 2018 for 3 years. Put 36K miles on it before I had had enough and got rid of it. Numerous times while traveling I had to sit somewhere because the bike wouldn’t start for more than an hour or more. When it developed a wobble in the frontend and they couldn’t determine the cause, that was the last straw.

One thing that has annoyed me about the DCT is you can't go to neutral while moving. Given this scenario, locking up the rear tire at speed would be a disaster without being able to go to neutral.

    • @brianellis81
      @brianellis81 Před 15 dny

If your transmission has just locked up because there’s a bolt stuck in it you may not be going to neutral with a manual either. Just depends on where the pieces go. A rear locking up isn’t the end of the world as long as you don’t panic and continue steering the bike. As a former racer, we slide the rear out on purpose sometimes.

I am scheduled to pickup a 2023 Honda DCT next Tuesday trading in my 2006 Goldwing. I am not concerned about this potential issue very much. I think this could be a by product of how a bike is ridden. I sure have experienced how pickup trucks are driven, the pedal to the metal is the norm. If bikes are driven hard the majority of the time, bad things could happen. There is tremendous torque with these bikes and constant torque breaks things. We will see what happens with my DCT over time.

I had that issue happen to my bike, it cost me $12,000 for new engine parts and labor. Honda would t cover any of the work because I didn’t have all of my oil change receipts. Only good thing about it is that I have a 2018 wing with a 1500 engine.

There is very limited data on this "UBS" bolt failure on the CZcams channels and forums. I would expect that if the part(s) for this failure occurred on 2019 GWs then the part would have been tested and replaced in subsequent years of production. This was alluded to in one of the GW Doc forum posts. A lot more information is needed before jumping to conclusions. Getting information from dealerships can be like pulling teeth but if even a few owners that experience this potential "catastrophic failure" carry out their due diligence with their dealership it will get fixed. If you are scared don't ride because riding scared is dangerous.

Then, it came to me while I was about to go to sleep what I didn't do. Now, every time I turn the bike on, helmet and the phone gets connected through Sena, CarPlay, Tunes, music every darn thing. I was told that I had to buy a separate, "Freewire" transmitter...$250.00 Dang...Not me! I'm thinking about doing a video on how to connect the Sena to the bike and via the iPhone . Honda QC seems to be slipping elseware too. I bought a 2019 loaded Passport and got rid of it 4 years later with just over 30,000 miles. Electrical/electronic issues were such that at the end i was reluctant to take it out of the city. I took a $20k hit +/- to get rid of this vehicle as i simply could not trust it. I was contemplating a Wing in 2020 but bought from the competition and following these videos i think i dodged a bullet.

A lot of recalls, but nearly every vehicle mfg has one, or a TSB. Having knowledge makes it possible to be proactive. Something like bikes, which don’t sell in anything close to what cars sell makes it more difficult to find problems and that makes it more difficult to say whether there is a widespread problem or not.
