    The part number is not irrelevant. If your part number has the A02 then you are good, but if it is A01 then you have to check the date code stamped below.

    I bought my 2018 in February of 19. My GW is a tour model 6sp. By the second or third year I've owned it it has shut down while riding it multiple times. It does always start back up but last year I was on a charity ride and it shut off and almost caused a wreck. I was lucky the rider behind me was paying attention. And I left everyone go before I pulled back in line. I haven't looked at the tag yet but I'm guessing it's definitely on the recall. After that incident I went to the dealer where I bought the bike from and asked if anyone else came in with this problem. I was told it's probably because of all the emission control stuff on the bike. Rather then argue I walked out. Now I know I'm not crazy.

    @roadglide Před 4 měsíci +4

    Another update. After informing my Service Dept, they still want to inspect the bike. Now I haven’t tried the picture of the fuel cell. My guess is, they want to document having seen the actual bike. Inconveniencing for customers, yes. But it makes sense, as they don’t want to sign-off on what they have not seen physically in it’s entirety. Dealing with hard to read photos, etc. Causing communication volleys with customers, etc. Just easier for Honda and the dealers to make an appt. One & done. Especially in the litigious society we live in.

      That makes at least two of us. The two Honda dealers in my area look more like lawnmower repair shops. I don't know that I'd even take my lawnmower to them.

    Thanks Chris for such important information.
    I’m currently having a temporary living in Brazil and bought a 2018 bagger model down there with 4.250 miles five months ago. After few miles riding, the bike starts shutting down after engine becoming heated. It happens three times under the same circumstance. I took the bike to a Honda dealer that has confirmed the problem with the fuel pump. Despite the fact the bike guaranty got already expired, Honda has provided a replacement at no cost. Honda really cares about their customer regardless they are located.

So many,I didn’t know the oil was different for bikes and used car oil. Ugh. I was young, no internet. But no matter what , Honda’s were always indestructible. My first Goldwing. Thank you Chris for this information. In addition to what you have reported here I have seen on a recall notice letter that is currently circulating on social media and the Wing forums that letters to owner's of affected bikes in the US will be mailed out in April 2024. Until that date it is unlikely that NHTSA or MyHonda, etc will show your VIN as showing needing the recall. Thought this might be helpful for your viewers to also know.

    Once again, great information! My dealer hasn’t said a word yet, and I’m guessing that it will take them a while to send out notification of this recall inspection. I’m not sure why they drag their feet on this stuff (too busy?). Previously I had a ‘21 Rebel 1100 DCT that had a recall for a defective stator cover that caused an oil leak. I saw several CZcamsrs explaining the leaking cover and stopped by my dealer to ask about it. “Oh, yeah,” they said, “you need to bring your bike in for a recall.” That doesn’t exactly instill confidence in their services. They did make the repair, but, sheesh!

    I have a ‘23 Gold Wing Tour DCT. I received the Honda Recall for the fuel pump issue in yesterday’s mail 4/22/24. Per Cruiseman’s video, which I originally watched 2 months ago, I had already checked my fuel pump which was manufactured 12/20/22 (12F20 stamp). So, while I don’t need the replacement, I will try the “Photo” approach with my dealer to clear the recall in my service records.

    I just called my local Honda dealership, where ironically I bought my 2nd Goldwing. I'm on my 3rd. They didn't know a thing about the recall. It's my understanding that the letters won't go out until April sometime, but you would have thought that a Honda dealership would have caught wind of it. Nope.

    I've never taken any bike to a dealer for repair or recall. I know for certain I would simply replace the pump myself as I just don't like the idea of dropping off a bike and then waiting days or weeks for a fix that I can do in 20 minutes. After 55 years of riding and repairing I don't wish to break my "never to a dealer" streak 🙂

    Since I live over an hour from a Honda dealer and also since I own a honda I don't have a good relationship with a service technician/manager I decided to just replace the pump myself and not worry about going to the dealership. Also from what I understand is they are only replacing the defective part of the pump not the entire pump assembly. Partzilla had the A02 version of the pump for 33% off.

    • @bigk7788
      @bigk7788 Před 4 měsíci +2

      @@cruisemansgarage that's true and completely agree. I'll have to get the valves adjusted/checked probably next winter because that's one thing I dont feel comfortable doing I'll have them update the recall then. Just can't see wasting 2+ hours worth of travel time for them to inspect a number that I already know will fail, then wait for the part, then another 2+ hours worth of travel time, then the gas and time for two round trips for my wife to follow me in her car to the dealership, plus however long the dealership keeps my bike for something I can change out in less than 30 minutes and for something I haven't had an issue with in 5 years of ownership and over 50K miles.

    I bought a new 2019 DCT Tour and about 2 years later with about 5,000 miles on it, there would be times when it wouldn't start after riding it. It would take about 3 hours for it to start up on its own. Battery issues and gas issues were suggested to me. After taking to my dealer (within 6 months of the 3 year warranty ending), he said it's the fuel pump. They ordered, replaced and not an issue 18 months and 4,000 miles later. Not sure what symptoms led to this recall. Just my experience.

    2nd May 2024. UK 2019 (2020 reg) Goldwing DCT Tour with Full Honda Service History and 5000 miles (8000 kms) on the clock, CONFIRMED fuel pump failure. The excellent Honda Tech, Ian at CJ Balls of Norwich, UK diagnosed and fixed the fault. All professionally handled by Lewis on the “desk”. I have been told the fuel pump is NOT included in any current fuel pump recall in the UK due to the bike being a 2019 model. The Goldwing fuel pump recall in the UK at the moment is for 2020-2024 Goldwings only. The pump failure was confirmed with a Goldwing fuel pressure tester, of which there are only a few (maybe only one?) in the UK. The pump price is £800 ($1000 USD) and involves 1 hour of labour to replace, plus any extra time to diagnose the fault. Once dealers learn to recognise the fault, then the amount of time to diagnose the fault should come down. However, regardless of the time to diagnose the fault, this repair is very likely to cost at least £1000 ($1250 USD) in the UK on 2018-2019 Goldwings, unless Honda UK bring out a recall for 2018-2019 bikes, as they have for the USA. Luckily, my Goldwing is covered under a Honda extended warranty, so this repair was of no cost to me. However, this might be something very worth while thinking about for anyone thinking of buying a 2nd hand 2018-2019 manufactured year Goldwing. That’s the end of my fuel pump failure updates and I hope this helps someone else in the future. Ride safe.

      @steve28849 True enough, I suppose, however I'd be disappointed if the fuel pump on my 2024 bike had been sitting on a shelf for 4 years. Is Honda authorizing a complete fuel pump replacement or just a defective part?

  • @wingingit9493

    Honda does not like pictures of issues and won't except them unless they are taken by a dealer tech or a rep. I've been through this crap with Honda concerning my Wing and a couple of Honda car issues. I stopped buying their cars after it was clear quality was dropping like lead in a lake with there motorcycles soon to be on the do not buy list. Had a clutch switch issue on my 2018 6MT. Very random and it would never error out at a dealer. After a few months it finally failed completely and also caused the ABS pump to drag the rear brake. Honda finally replaced the switch. And Honda has no fix for the issue, just replace the switches when needed. Even though it's a problem with values in there code they won't fix. Finale drive started leaking. Yep sure Honda would fix it but I would have to wait on a damned dealer to get to it and replace the whole finale drive unit. Looked up the parts to fix it which were under $40,,, Fixed it myself. Now this mess. I just looked up a new fuel pump and it's not available. So here we go. Waiting on Hondas cheap ass to get things right. This fuel pump issue is not only Goldwings. It's affecting many of there cars. Somebody in corporate went cheap ass. Wonder if Honda a once great company will get caught up in there lies over this fuel pump issue like they did with there 2L turbo car engines that kept washing cylinders down with fuel on cold start and wrecking engines?

    Just an update my Goldwing dealer in Ireland has confirmed my 2023 has a recall on the fuel pump. They are getting them in July for replacement. Dealer said it nothing serious it just might be a little tricky starting sometimes. Haven’t had any issues I’m just after first service last week

  • @jamesb.2064

    Well, I’m on the recall and they supposedly ordered the "part…parts..pump"? I’m told they may not send the whole fuel pump, just the inside defective parts. That means instead 30 min to change a pump, might take a mechanic a couple hours to change out parts. Either way, I’m told Honda is sitting on the order…no parts are in the mail. Which means we have to ride an unsafe bike, a bike Honda KNOWS is unsafe, until they decide to cough up the bucks to send us a replacement. Come on Honda, we all coughed up big bucks to keep you in business, help us out with your screw up. 😕. Cruiseman, please keep us informed with any updates your contacts have. I’m going to either miss Daytona Bike Week, or ride an unsafe bike, which Honda won’t fix. Thanks Chris

    Multiple dealers have informed me that Honda will not have replacement parts available till May or June. Can you confirm this? So our bikes are down 2 months or more waiting on their fix? My dealer informed me that all 2018-2019 models would be receiving new pumps and select newer models.

    • @cruisemansgarage

      @@cruisemansgarage It gets pretty dicey when you're tripping far from home and know there's no immediate fix for your bike. Even after the tow, there's no fuel pump available and Honda hasn't authorized the repair yet. What do you do, fly home while your bike is in some faraway place and then fly back weeks, or months, later? This gets pretty salty in a hurry.

    Good Morning Cruiseman, thank you for the video with Fuel Pump update. I have a 2023 model and will do all possible to keep my dealer tech hands off my bike, so will send them a photo or second option, drive bike to dealer where I will remove the seat and he/she can look at the data plate/sticker to satisfy the SB. PS: I'm not suggesting my dealer tech has issues, I just prefer to maintain my own machine.
