    All good info. The only recommendation I would change is for closing and latching the trunk lid. I do NOT recommend pushing down on the rear of the lid to close it. The paint/clear coat on the Wing is soft and is easily damaged. Repeatedly closing the lid in this manner will cause fine scratches in the clear coat, resulting in a hazy, or cloudy look. I close mine by pushing down only on the top of the backrest. This way you don't have to touch the paint at all to close it...

    On the DCT model, by locking the handlebars to the right instead of the left, both mirrors can be fully retracted to provide protection from damage or to improve space in a tight parking spot.
    Also in changing the mode while in motion, rather than close the throttle before doing so, I find it safer to pre select the chosen new mode then close the throttle to engage it. If using tour mode, this will prevent the sport mode from engaging if you're after econ or rain modes ... otherwise it can take by surprise as I've discovered!
    Thanks for a very informative video.

    Good job. I don't own a Goldwing but I have to give credit where credit is due. Incredible motorcycle! I've always thought/wondered.... what if.... You get the newest models from each of the top touring bike manufacturers and ride them from Miami FL. to Anchorage AK. Which one would need the most/least maintenance? Keep an intense log record of each bike. I've always thought the Honda Goldwing would win that contest. I wonder if the top brand motorcycle manufacturers would like to volunteer to this challenge? Let them bring their own bike, maintenance crews, chase vehicles, parts ..... EVERYTHING! All bikes ride at the same time, together, same exact conditions and rest stops. Together! It's not a race, it's a maintenance test.

      JR, I own both and while I love the BMW it has its own drawbacks. The audio system is horrible, there is no bluetooth in for the bike you have to buy the Garmin GPS Navigator as a bluetooth hub at the highly outrageous price of $950, then maybe half of the people get it to work properly. Mine has never worked, I wasted my money on the GPS since I'd rather use my phone for navigation anyway. The bike is very smooth, and very powerful, but the throttle is mushy even in sport mode and in higher gears the ECM only gives you about 75% throttle. A Bren Tune fixes the driveability issues, for only $650. I love being able to remove the bags and have a sportier bike with a comfortable riding position, but if I could only own one bike it would probably be the Wing.

      @@johnfriend862 Thanks for the info. Many years ago I bought a Kawasaki K1300, water cooled Six Tour bike, and to this day it is my favorite tour bike. The 84 GPZ1100 would have to be my favorite sport bike. I must say I have not ridden since late 85 after hearing a good friend was killed on his bike but ready to get back into touring.

    Hi Cruiseman, I've been watching a lot of your Gen 6 GW videos. I'm in the midst of making the decision on a 2021, non tour model. It's a tough decision. I'll be leaving my very much loved, low tech, Kawasaki Concours. I currently own both the first generation Concours and the current C14 model. I'm getting to an age that long distance is becoming more uncomfortable in the Sport Touring riding position and with no cruise control. Well, the test ride is tomorrow, I hope I either Love it or Hate it, this is the toughest motorcycle decision I have ever made. Thanks so much for your really informative and thorough videos.

    I have a 2019 GW 6spd . I've been through about everything you mentioned but I wish I would have seen the Video first . It sure would have made it a lot easier.
    Not to sure about hanging the helmet on the end of the handlebars. I'm afraid a bird might take aim at the helmet.
    Shame on Honda for the top box that won't hold my XL N104 Noland helmet without putting pressure on the lid to close. And I've tried several positions to close it. Hill hold is a great thing.
    I've done the hill hold for friends and my kids when they started riding dirt bike's, they probably didn't know that I would pull up close behind them in case they started rolling back on a hill.
    And then talked about how to control that issue.
    Thank's for the great video .

    • @geraldfrieberg7921

      Helmets are EASILY stolen by thieves by simply using a box cutter or folding knife. NO WAY would I hang my nearly 700 dollar Shoei helmet outside on my bike ! SO, so dumb ! What was Honda thinking ! NO excuse for Honda not allowing an 800 lb 'WIng to store a single helmet in a side saddlebag. It just goes to show that the marketing folks, NOT the real riders, are in charge of the design of these bikes.

    Chris, a few things that either I've found different or are on the M6 models. My 2018 Tour will not engage the cruise at under 30 MPH. The reverse works very differently on the manual, and there is no "walking mode" forward. Finally, another way to disengage the cruise control is to pull the clutch lever. You did teach me a few things that in the 2 1/2 years I've had mine I didn't know.

    • @dennism665
      @dennism665 Před 3 lety +1

      No need to pull. Simply squeeze very lightly. You can feel the microswitch deactivate.

    • @erik_dk842
      @erik_dk842 Před rokem

      The decision to prevent the cruise to work below 30 MPH must have been taken by lawyers, and I'd like to know their arguments. There are many situations where I'd like the CC to maintain for instance 10 MPH while I could spend my full attention to the road and its surroundings, and not focus on not going too fast, on a camp ground or a real poor road.

    Thanks for the video. I have learned most from trial and error and your previous videos. No negative comments on this. However, missed that you can add the AUX connection and see it on the Audio connections. I use my Garmin via AUV and have audio for GPS, MP3 , XM, and weather alerts outputted via the bike's audio... speakers or Bluetooth.

    • @rgia100
      @rgia100 Před 3 lety

      Can you elaborate on this? Not familiar with adding the AUX connection. That is something I would use as I’m not a headset guy. Thanks.

    • @wflentge
      @wflentge Před 3 lety

      I have a ’19 DCT Tour. There is a connector on the bike for an AUX input that one can connect to an external device (GPS, iPod,…) that will allow for a wired input of the audio of the device to the bike’s audio system. One must purchase the cable to connect to the bike and allow for the device audio output to be connected. The connection end of the AUX wire on the bike is difficult to get to. One must remove some body parts and seat to get to. I installed my cable while I was installing a few other aftermarket electrical items. There is a video someplace that provides the instructions to get the cable installed. Honda should have made the access of the connector easier. Once I connected my GPS to the AUX input, I am able to go into the Audio menu and select AUX instead of FM, AM,….. The GPS audio now plays through the bike’s audio system. I can use either the bike’s speakers (which I rate as poor) or I can have my J&M Bluetooth headset paired and receive the audio via the headset. I rarely use the bike’s speakers.

While the motorcycle is completely shut down, you can press either the front or rear brake and press and hold the start button and the ignition will turn on and the motorcycle will start. Hi. I have a 2020 goldwing bagger with apple CarPlay. The trick with it is that you have to turn off the Bluetooth on your iPhone the. Then helmet pairs with the bike. Then you plug your iPhone into your bike and it pairs everytime

    How are you doing cruise man? My name is Hollywood. I left you a previous message on a different topic but I’m watching a video on the hill assist and the gas to put on the bike. You are recommending 87 octane in your opinion which gas is best Gary Sunoco BP I live in Florida so we have racetrack 7-Eleven on my current bike. I always try to go to race track.

    I'm a new Goldwing owner. I found your video very informative. Could you give the brand and model of your luggage rack? To your experience, how much weight can it hold without damaging the trunk? Thank you.

    Given all the warning lights regarding saddlebag and kickstand status, etc., I prematurely declared mine "idiot proof." You can't ride off with the kickstand down! You can't start the bike when it's in drive! But, there's nothing preventing you from riding off with the parking brake engaged. Except the red light that tells you that you left the ^&%$ parking brake on.

    Thanks for this video. I've had my DCT Tour for just over a year and learned a couple things. I was wondering how your fuel range showed 249 miles. The most range I've ever seen was 200. Does that reading take into accound the current MPG shown on the info streamer at the bottom of the spedo/tach gauges?

      I believe it have to do with riding habbit.
      If you are hard on the gas will give a lower range, but if you ride slow and steady, maybe more eco mode that range should increase. It is always estimated and not the actual mileage you will get for sure. Don't rely on that. Just enjoy your riding time, and safe trips with open roads.

    Here in Sudbury Ontario Canada the gas price today is $8.97 I know our dollar is lower than yours and a gallon is bigger but I think we are ahead of you in price even with those factors right now the price is $1.97 a liter

    Trying to decide to buy one. I love your videos. Following your BMW review waiting for the last one to come out. Hold up on buying bike is my wife can not see in front of the biked, which she wants to, and with a bad disk in her neck it hurts her a great deal to be leaning out looking around me. (Says the back of my helmet is just not interesting enough.) Would love to find a seat that would raise her up high enough but then I do not know how far that would mess up the center of gravity on the bike. Any words of wisdom? She will not ride anything but her Yamaha Vino 125. She dropped her Honda Silverwing 600, the perfect bike, and now is afraid of it. My riding days may be numbered.

    Hello Cruiseman enjoy your videos. I can possibly buy a 2018 Honda Goldwing Ardent red with only 10,000. I presently own a 2015 Indian Chief Vintage. I would like to have more comfort and was thinking of buying a wing rathe then a HD or Indian my only concern is that I will maybe miss the v-twin. I know you have owned several motorcycles including a V-twin. What are your thoughts of making the switch. I know it’s a personal matter but since you owned several v-twin in the past was that an issue missing the v-twin.
    Thanks
