- I recorded a video on this padlock previously where I discovered that it was far too easy to pick open. I decided to aggressively di-sasemble it to discover what the issue was. In this episode I will pick it, gut it and then explain what the problem was. It turned out to be a way easier fix than I initially expected!
Great investigation and awesome restore! The bronze screws look perfect!
Cheers! They do look nice don't they? 😁👍🏻
Ahhh mystery solved, such relief.
Thank you good sir for making this video.
😊👍
Cheers Roy. It was a fun project 😁👍🏻
Nice work all the way around. Thanks for sharing.
Excellent video and explanation as always. Well done buddy 👏
Thanks, it was a fun project and O learnt a fair bit along the way 😁👍🏻
Awesome vid! Thanks for taking the time to make it. Take care and have a fantastic weekend.
Cheers Gaz 😎👍🏻
Fantastic breakdown and tutorial. That no doubt was a fair amount of work.
What surprises me is the part @ 11:50 about the key wearing down. The rear plate appears to be brass, but the key, (I assume) steel. Yet the key stump wore down first, and not the edge of the plate. Weird.
It is odd and unexpected. I can only guess that the key got worn down in another way. I've been guitly of using my keys as levers/tools in a pinch which could damage or wear it down. Still, its a bit of a mystery 🤔
Awesome gutting. I love the insides of locks. Cheers
I was born with the urge to take shit apart. Nothing's changed! 😂👍🏻
Great video. Love the lever locks.🔏
Thanks, it was great to deep dive this problematic lock 😎👍🏻
Nice one mate - Who'd a thunk it!
Looks lovely inside 👍
It does after a polish up. It looked like the wreck of the Titanic when I first opened it!! 😂👍🏻
This is a highly informative and interesting vid, which stands head and shoulders above much of the meagre offerings out there, about these locks imo. I have sought them out, trust me!
Nice gut, clean up, pick and bit of key making there Mr D.
I have two of these, one with and one without a key. The keyed one works just fine and is (predictably) not bitted the same as the other. Now, bear in mind that I have picked all of my Battleships, Cruisers, 'Big Fives' and Squires et al- without much ado, I cannot get these two. Even taking into account 'The One Who Should Not Be Picked', nada.
I have a feeling, that the tensioner may be a tiny touch too long at the back end- thus, picking up the bolt and a bit of the back lever. Although, going by the key, it seems fine.🤔 It also maybe, that they are hugely gunked up or that my dulcet, baby rhino touch is a tad heavy?
Dunno, guess I'll sort it and it'll be on the groups, for sure.
Anyhoodles ( that's watching Albert Lebel, that is!😂), thank you for a great vid- I thoroughly enjoyed it, learned some things and yes, most of us do "like taking sh#t apart"!
Sorry, no devil horns and open padlock emojis, yet- new pad....😘(howzat?😁)
Tensioner length can really effect picking in my experience. Maybe play about with shorter/longer tensioners? As far as I'm aware there are no false gates in Defiants so they should be relatively straightforward picks. Thanks for commenting and watching today 😎👍🏻
@@Dmaclocksport - it was my pleasure.😊
Excellent breakdown. Could you glue the posts into the back to help reassembly? Would the blacking fluid work on the new bolt heads? Very enjoyable 17:46
If the posts were welded in place it'd help I guess. Glue would be too weak I suspect. Blacking fluid only works on some steels. Brass can be aged by soaking in salt and vinigar but I like the bright screws. They'll dull down naturally over time 😎👍🏻
love this
Thanks 🙏🏻😎🙏🏻
That’s very interesting 👍
Cheers Brett 🍺😎
