    In fast speech, the distribution of consonants and vowels within the syllable structure of words is affected by many phonological processes we call them syllable structure processes. For example, a cluster of consonants could be simplified in one of the four ways: one of the consonants could be deleted, a vowel could be inserted between consonants, two consonants could coalesce into a single segment or two sounds could reverse their positions.

      that could be an example in MA...though the word scsou or cscsou is debatable...

    In old English they used to say " Aks" while in modern English it went in the metathesis phonological process and become "Ask"

    Coalescence , is it under Assimilation umbrella! Because the order in the presentation we have is not the same !

      Yes it is one of the assimilatory processes... But it is explained here separately and in detail so as not to mix it up with palatalization...
