- Knowledge of phonology determines how we pronounce words and the parts of words we call morphemes. Often, certain morphemes are pronounced differently depending on their context, the sounds that surround them. When morphemes are combined, sounds affect each other resulting in some changes called PHONOLOGICAL PROCESSES. In this video lesson, you are introduced to the most common phonological processes that occur when morphemes are combined to form words and changes that occur in other environments .
