- When I saw that the Netherlands extra day parkrun (Whit Monday) was in Poppy's school half term then I started planning. I realised we could have an epic parkrun trip and visit some dear friends in Germany who we've not seen since before the pandemic. We could then go on to run the extra parkrun days in Denmark and Sweden and make it home with Poppy only missing one day of school having run in four different countries! It was too good to refuse!
I got planning and the trip started with a week in Amsterdam. I wanted to check out EuroParcs as I'd heard it was reasonable and it was in the same park as Amsterdamse Bos parkrun, albeit several miles of forest away! The original plan was to go down to Zuiderpark parkrun but once we arrived I realised that, with the time difference, that Poppy would have to get up at the equivalent of 5am, so I quickly changed the plan and decided we would go to Amsterdamse Bos parkrun which was nearby. It turned out to be a fantastic decision. To make it an authentic running experience in Holland I figured that we needed to cycle the four miles to the start of parkrun. It was the best decision and Poppy and I had so much fun on our tandem although Poppy didn't like that we weren't given helmets! I do love the cycling culture in the Netherlands and we have a lot to learn here in the UK!
The parkrun itself was brilliant. Flat, fast, well marshalled... A gorgeous one lapper through the forest. The café afterwards was even better. Huge thanks to Laura and her team for a brilliant morning.
Happy running,
Nicola :)

Awesome location Nicola.
🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️
For flippin cool video
Thanks, we LOVED cycling to parkrun on our crazy tandem! 🙃😃
Looks so lovely and that bike looked 'interesting' to ride.
Interesting 🤣🤣🤣 it was SO FUN! 🎉
Single lap parkruns are the best. Looks like a lovely course. Can't get over that tandem, wish I'd had something like that when my son was a bit younger, we used to get about by bike until he was too big for our trailer but he took a long time to embrace cycling independently.
I was beyond thrilled when I found it. I was wracking my brain because I really thought I'd be able to find a kids bike for Poppy and was sad when I couldn't and then I was like 🙌🙌🙌 because it was perfect and I've never seen a bike like it! Although it was HEAVY 🤣 Poppy definitely had to do some pedaling!
Great video as always and a very fun day and you are a great presenter and video designer well done Nicola great park run video
Thank you so much, it was such a fun day, I think starting on a crazy tandem then it was always going to be! 🤣 Thank you for such a kind comment 😊
This looks amazing. I was so excited watching because we are planning to visit Amsterdamse Bos parkrun in August. I will definitely check if we can hire bikes from the hotel to cycle to parkrun.
You'll love it! It's a wonderful parkrun and bikes totally make the experience 😃
Wonderful video Nicola, but must do better with flight times 😂 As for the bike, what a wonderful contraption of a tandem. The park looks stunning especially near the rowing lake. Thanks for sharing another one and until the next one, you and Poppy take care.
Oh my goodness I TOTALLY messed up the flight times! I was far too relaxed 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ the tandem was AWESOME wasn't it! 😃😍
Just putting The Netherlands on my bucket list 🇳🇱
I love the confidence of the first time parkrunner 🧡
He was loving it! It was brilliant 😃 imagine getting cheers like that just for turning up! 🎉🎉🎉
Hi Nic, I loved this video. Great film of a lovely location.
It’s all of the atmospherics and little nuances of each location that make these interesting, above and beyond the run itself.
Thank you 🤗 I couldn't agree about what gives each parkrun its own personality 😍
Loved this cos u showed us some of amsterdam afterwards, more like this please. Comment from my hubby, he said he likes the way you are letting poppy be a kid and not a mini adult like so many are, they dress too old, wear make up and lets be honest are basically asking for trouble, so well done u xxxx
Awww thank you. I'm lucky as she's an awesome kid. I think her staying a kid is largely due to her not having much time watching TV or on phones, she's too busy being dragged around on adventures 😜 as it should be! 💪
Good point well put xx
What a beautiful run. Very cool and thanks for taking me along. Always nice to travel and get in a race / run.
You're so right! This whole trip was based around parkrunning which was a brilliant way to travel 😃
Looks a beautiful parkrun course. I've visited many places in Europe but curiously not Amsterdam or the Netherlands which is so close by living near London.
You know where you need to go on your next holiday then! 😉
Another great video Nicola. I’m luckily enough to have ran this parkrun twice & I loved it. The first time I ran it was the day before the marathon and it was a nice easy run so I got to appreciate it more that I usually do whizzing round as fast as I can. One of my favourites.
Love the tandem! 😍
Thanks 😊 The tandem was so fun! Ooh I bet the Amsterdam marathon is amazing! It's one I'd love to do 😃😍
Another great video, Nicola & Poppy, I love the tandem. Amsterdamse Bos looks a beautiful parkrun but I think Sonsbeek, the hilly one in Arnhem is the most scenic of the 7 Dutch ones I’ve visited so far. If you go back to Amsterdam again I strongly recommend visiting the Dutch Resistance Museum. There were so many interesting things to see in there. If you head to Leiden to run at Kagerzoom, you would like the Hortus Botanicus Gardens which are like a mini Kew Gardens & the Museum Van Oudheden which has a very large Egyptology collection.
Thanks for the recommendations Matt 😃
Ah Got this one next month. Few people I’ve spoken too said Uber it from city centre, which I’ll do then I know I’ll get there in time 😂 not sure I’ll get that sunshine in Feb 😂.
Ooh I'm excited for you! It's such a great parkrun 😃
Wow Poppy is such a nut! It's entertaining just watching her in her own world on the runs...and the stepping stones at the end. Great you took in the Anne Frank house and getting your girl to get an idea of the history there. Sounds like an amazing holiday for you guys travelling to all those places!
It was brilliant... But exhausting! For me anyway, obviously Poppy took it all in her stride! 😂 They've not studied WW2 at school yet but I'm hoping that Poppy has a deeper understanding of it now that she knows a bit more. Awww bless her, we just had to go back to the stepping stones! 😃
Nice surprise , hope you both had fun 😊
Thanks, we did! I always love parkruns in other countries as it's such a great way to meet people 😃
Top tandeming Nicola! Looked so much fun. Made me laugh how you allowed plenty of time to cycle to Parkrun, but had a complete fail on your flight times😂
Erm... Yes... Not my finest hour! 🤦🏻♀️🤣 What was I thinking?! I just had 12 in my head. Yes Nicola... TO BE AT THE AIRPORT!!! Not to leave home! What a wally 🤦🏻♀️ We made it to both though 😅
I’ve still never done a non-British parkrun! Maybe one day. We had a holiday in Amsterdam planned for Easter 2020 just as they were starting up and I was going to try to fit one in then but well, you know. 2020. Loved the bike!
Yes... The less said about 2020 the better 😞 although... Is it just me or does it seem like that was DECADES ago! 🤣
@@NicolaRuns it really does!
Hi Nicola! What an amazing video and now I know where Eurocamp is 😅. I’m passing it on my winter running route 😊.
It’s also very humbling to hear your thoughts about this forest and how you portrayed it, as you might remember, I run there at least twice a week (different paths).
Keep on enjoying parkrunning
Hello my lovely, I think you're so lucky to have such a beautiful place on your doorstep! I'm so happy you enjoyed the video. Thanks again for your beautiful smile and contagious energy while volunteering not once, but twice during our trip 🤗😃
It was lovely to parkfaff with you and Poppy after Amsterdamse Bos parkrun! Kathryn and Mark (from Oxford)
You too 🤗 I hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip 😃
We had such brilliant Dutch/Danish/Swedish parkrun adventures. Hope yours and Poppy's were great too 😁💛!
@@kathryndally8403 it was an absolutely wonderful experience although I never sleep before international parkruns so it was a lot of sleepless nights! I'm still exhausted! 🤦🏻♀️🤣 Sooooooo worth it though! 😃 🇳🇱🇩🇪🇩🇰🇸🇪
That bike looks sketchy!
🤣🤣🤣 it was a tank! Super heavy and super fun! 😃
Looks absolutely stunning 🤩 Was wondering why the briefings weren’t in Dutch? Or did they do both English and Dutch??
They ask at the start of it's okay to do it in English as there was such a large proportion of English speaking visitors. If someone local had have said they preferred Dutch then they would have done both. It was absolutely stunning, gotta love a one lapper in a forest! 😍
