I still love using mine. It was THE camera I wanted before the D90 was released.
It was and still is a useful camera for many.
My aunt was a photographer she passed away I was given her d80 with a bunch of accessories. It’s been in the closet for a year. Now I’m going to try it out.
It was and it is still an excellent camera. The quality and the ergonomics were the reason it was my camera for 10 years.
It really is. I remember when this camera was released, it was one that I REALLY wanted.
The D80 is a great camera! I learned so many things shooting with it in the late 2000s~2010s. I've moved up to a D7200, which I love even more, but the D80 will always have a special place in my heart for teaching me the DSLR basics
Nice! I remember when it was released and it was ONE camera that I wanted when I had my D90. Like you said, the D80 definitely has special place in every owner's heart :) Thanks for sharing.
I love using mine , it actually just broke this morning but I’m absolutely paying for it to get fixed because I love the ease of use once you learn your way around the menus and buttons
The D80 was my first DSLR. I will always keep it. It still takes great pictures. I have several other DSLR’s and mirrorless cameras but still pickup my D80 from time to time because it’s just a great camera with an awesome build quality.
Agreed. I like how it feels in my hands. Definitely feels a lot more 'rugged' than my mirrorless camera.
Used it a lot for ten years and recently gave it to my brother as a gift. Amazing camera. Now I have a d90 permanently mounted for film scanning, d600 when i need to get the job done, d100 when i want to have fun and a Sony a7 for various vintage glass.
I bought my D80 new 17 years ago shot professionally with it and it still works as smooth as it did day one. It’s still a great piece of kit.
Very nice! Glad to know you're still using yours! Thanks for sharing.
I have a d3000, (I believe they have the same sensor) I made 2 videos on it a couple years back. I got mine for free from a camera store cause the screen was broken. Love that lil one
I go back to film days, and have a degree from a top Photo program.
Just when I "got my foot in the door" as Photojournalist ( Detroit Free Press), all papers dropped most employees (c. 2006)
- I still do some work, and carry my D3200 EVERYWHERE (always ready).
I fit it with a Sigma pro "ultra-zoom" - 18- 300 ( 30- 450 "equivalent")
The poly- carbonite body is TOUGH and LIGHT, I have dropped it about 10 times, with no harm, but broken lens shade, or filter.
- I see no advantage to a swing- out view screen, except if shooting video - but I'd probably break it off in about 1 week, as my "street" camera.
- These days, EVERYBODY is a "photographer", but a DSLR can get shots that no phone- camera can.
- I bought a 2nd D3200, and lens, for $200 online - it's a great backup...
It’s also got that CCD juice!!!
yup!
Loved mine for the years I have had it. Just used it to shoot Puffins in Nova Scotia. Just dove in and purchased a D7500 and the D80 will remain my trusty back up.
Great! Thanks for sharing!
I got one recently. Love the CCD sensor.
My D80 it’s just great
D80 was the first digital I bought. After shooting nothing but manual mode cameras for much of my life (12 years of that spent overseas), I switched to digital when I saw the quality of the imagery and the obvious benefits. I shot thousands of photos and it’s still around and ticking here in 2023. Great little camera that’s small and very portable compared to my full frame DSLR now. Don’t know if I’ll ever let go of it.
Nice!! Thank you for sharing!
This was my first dslr camera,it still works and has 49k shutter count. i still have fun with it from time to time.
Thank you for sharing!!
Love mine, showing it’s age, but still working.
Great! Thanks for sharing :)
I still use my D80 that I bought new and I own a D810 and a D7100. It was my first DSLR and I’ve always had a soft spot for it.
Nice! Thanks for sharing. I remembered how special the D80 was when it was released :)
From mirrorless lumix brand i switch to dslr and brought the d80 i dont have regrets buying it ilove it
Nice!! Thanks for sharing! Enjoy the D80!
I am a Nikon D200 camera owner and I love this camera I am a Photographer and not a videographer but I will be crossing over and do both in the cuter mirriorless cameras are just to expensive right now I cannot see myself spending for a combo camera because if their is a problem you will loose one of the formats Nikon needs to continue with the DSLR just improve on them and I would love to see Nikon produce a medium format I just what all around quality and now since film cameras are making a come back I will also being going back to film I love the quality of chrome.
It’s funny. I’ve been using an old 35mm for years because I’ve never bothered buying a newer camera. My buddy gave me his old D80 the other day. It’s pretty cool but I don’t have any auto focus lenses yet, still using my old 35mm lenses with it tbh.
Back in film days ( pre- 12MP = iso 400 film res) I had Nikon pro gear - F3 and N90 bodies + lenses.
Around 2001, I was just getting my foot in the door of Photojournalism, and a degree from a good school. I needed a digital SLR ( for newspapers) but couldn't afford Nikon's cheapest body - D100, at ~ $1400.
**That was the time Canon made its 1st "Digital. Rebel" - w/18-55 lens, so I had no choice, and switched...
... The years passed, I bought a couple more Canon lenses, then another body (F3).
With improved DSLRS, lower prices, I bought a new Nikon D3200 (12 MP) w/ lens. I can use all my old lenses, esp 80-200 / 2.8, in "full manual", but I'm now skilled enough to shoot "Manual" and RAW.
** I find NO PROBLEMS with the cheap, LIGHTWEIGHT "Carbonate"- plastic body.
- I bought a Sigma "Pro" ultra-zoom - 18- 300 (30- 450 equivalent) for my SMALL, LIGHT D3200, which I carry EVERYWHERE.
- I've dropped cam and lens about 10 TIMES, with no harm but broken lens shade, or filter.
I can get Pro results, shooting anything from macro insects to Rock Concerts, or live Theatre, or helicopter Med- evac from 100 M away...
Thanks @marktulk4225 for the awesome tips and sharing your experiences!
I bought one when they first came out, 2007 I think. I lasted until last year. Then the error code came up. I found a used one in New York and ordered it for $55. It came today with a battery and charger. Looks almost new and everything works great.
Nice purchase! Especially for that price. Thanks for sharing!
I had one I liked it. I sold it to a friend just because I was investing in M43 and I just did not feel like owning two camera mounts.
They're so cheap now. But totally understand about having 2 different camera mounts. One of the reasons why I've stuck with Nikon cameras and lenses.
I’m a BIG proponent for using older cameras! Esp when you’re first starting out
Still use my D200
Nice! Good to know another D200 is still being used :) Thanks for sharing.
I have my D80 but still trying practicing how to get a good shoot😊
keep at it! it's an awesome camera. I love using mine when I don't want to lug around the 'newer' cameras.
Mine has a error code..help me
The creator has just described half of the Nikons from the last 15 years-
Can take nice pictures if you know what you are doing. You can change settings with ease. Compatible with many lenses. And so on.
copy and paste lol now, its just up to the user to really make the best of it.
I have a D40 and the biggest drawback is no AF motor.
CCD sensors look great at low ISO.
Thanks for sharing! I wish it had the AF motor screw too!
Are you able to view the camera image on the display as you are taking photos with this camera? Just got one in 2024 trying to learn how to use it, first camera like this
Unfortunately, you can not. The D90, the model after the D80, was the one that had the Live View feature.
I love my D80! Do you know if you can do HDR Photography with it?
Yes! You can create HDR images with the D80. Back when the D80 was released, I remember seeing a few HDR images from the D80. It was those HDR images that got me hooked on the D80 back in the day :)
Hello ! I was just gifted this cámara and have no experience with jt. What SIM card do you recommend I get ? Thank you🙌🏻
You'll need an SD card. I'm using the Sandisk 8gb memory card in my D80.
I am a Soccer mom and just found one at a garage sale! I have no idea what I'm doing but how can i get it to take many fast action shots while they play on the field? I can only seem to take one shot at a time!
Make sure your shooting mode is Continuous Mode. Look at the Nikon D80's manual online and look for the Continuous mode. Hope this helps.
Great camera. The lens is really more important than the camera, so get a D80 and you will have money left over for great lenses.
100% agreed. A really good lens will take you a long ways in your photography journey.
And is famous for having the Err message on it. It says there are no images when the playback button is pressed to view images...
Haha! That's what the comments in my D80 review also say as well.
I had D80 and then bought D7000. What I instantly noticed with D7000 with the same lenses was a disgusting red brick skin tone (especially under artificial light). I could not get rid of it even using photoshop or Nikon's own software.
So one big thing about D80 is beautiful natural colours that it produces.
Agreed. The D80's iso grain is quite unique too.
What does the error mean.. when I look in to shoot it says err
Hard to say as there could be several factors. Is the camera functioning at all when the ERR appears? Is the lens mounted on correctly and is it the correct lens? I know using non-Nikon batteries can also give you the ERR code as well.
Support video Mode?
The D80 does not do video recording.
I found used one for 80$ with 50mm macro lens😂
NICE purchase!!
can take video?
any advice on where I can find a polarizing filter for the standard 18-55 lens?
Not sure where you are located but Amazon is always my go to. If Amazon isn't available, I know that B&H, Adorama and KEH are very reputable online stores that a majority of photographers use to buy their gear.
Do you think this would be good to record soccer game video? Can I connect a field monitor to it?
Unfortunately, the Nikon D80 does not have video recording
got err saying on the screen :(
oh no. Apparently, it's very common with the D80. It could be many things; from a bad battery, a third party battery, a bad memory card, a bad lens, bad contacts from the body to the lens, or something else. It's very hard to diagnose.
Oh man, it's not pronounced "naykon", but Nikon (nee-kon).
It must be a USA thing because a lot of photographers say "Ny-con" and not "Nee-kon". Either way, it seems like most people get it.
@@BoostLeekdMedia It's N(ee)kon in the UK (and Japan), and just learned that Americans indeed pronounce it like you do. Interesting.
Where can I buy one new?
Not too sure where you will be able to find a brand new Nikon D80. I know I have seen low shutter D80's with the 18-105 for under $500 but that was not local to me and I think $500 is a bit too much for it. BUT, if you can find one that has never been used and works like it should, it may be worth it. Just make sure you can inspect it in person.
sick of dlsr focus shift problems mirroless focus is much more reliable
Yeah, the focus peaking is nice in the mirrorless cameras.
