- I recently purchased my D800 from KEH online for less than 500 bucks. The look and feel are amazing with the specifications of a high-end commercial shooting camera. This 36mp full-frame camera delivers on every level. Is it good in 2023.... heck yes ! wonderful images with the right glass of course !

Buy at www.keh.com if you choose or Ebay if you're lucky ;-)
Bought mine new back in 2012. Still have it, image quality is outstanding.
I bought a very well used D800 a few years ago and I use it a lot. I like the fact that I can use my old Nikkor lenses and get great results. I even like using DX lenses with it. The shutter count is over 650000 and it's still going strong.
Wow that’s high …. But hey , mine looks like I’ve dropped it in a lake lol and it works
I´m a Canon shooter myself, but the Nikon D800 is well-known to be a beast of a camera.
I purchased a D800 secondhand with 42k shutter cycles a couple years ago. It’s a phenomenal camera, but it’s not a novice camera IMO. Focus confirmation is crucial with this FX 36mp camera and understanding Active D-Lighting settings as well. I mainly use my D800 for high rez work and a D3S FX 12mp for smaller web based images.
Great video!
Fantastic point ! I’ve really struggled with the tight work with the D800 and often times fall back to my trusty 700 and try to nail the composition! I’ll give you $150 for your D3 :-)
Very interesting indeed! Thanks for the video. David
Thanks so much ;-)
Beautiful machine of a camera I love it, the color it produces noise is pretty much handles noise well up to 1600- 2000 ISO.
I just bought a spotless d800 with an AF Nikkor 28-300 lens for CDN$420.00!---love it! (Xmas present to myself)
Good one. $420 its like just d7100 or just d5600/77d only body or m6 kit hehe
Nice video man I own this camera since June 2013 still great I am using it for all kinds of shooting weddings sports BMX Astro aviation wildlife etcetera I had five lenses than later only two or three Sigma 120-300mm F2.8 OS EX used it for more than ten years but now using only Sigma Art lenses 20mm F1.4 and the 105mm F1.4 Art lenses .before the D800 I had the D200 for about five six years my next camera could be a D850 or a Z mount camera but not yet .Still thinking ???? about
Obsessed
I’ve bought d800 again few month ago. Perfect prise quality ratio of almost any scenario. I’ve been using it for trim in UK for street life photography, museum low light iso 6400 or even 12800 is available and usable. On pair with D4 for fast action an low light you can picture almost anything and keep almost the same colours.
Honestly …. For low light … the D700 at -$200-300 is wonderful ! Get it and let me know what you think you WILL NOT be disappointed…. Low light with a fast lens like a 80mm 1.8g
@@robbellphoto I used to have D700 before... actually 2 of them... :) It was and is a fantastic camera! For that price - it is still better than new Nikon DX mirrorless like Z50. D700 keeps very naturally mid-tones and I've Never hesitated to shoot at 3200 - 6400 iso (sometimes even more). And even my son had made a lot of pictures easily with it. And almost nobody cares what camera you shoot, if you getting the right images on time. I have primes - 24/35/85 f1.8G lenses and couple of manual portrait lenses (for joy) - so I can go really low light if I need... And with mother AI softwares - it easy to retouch anything and enlarge.
Going to look at one Saturday as s backup to my D850, guy has a vertical grip included, very well used but well cared for from the pictures the guy sent me, it will definitely suit fill the role of backup as I primarily shoot landscape well enough and for wildlife 4fps may be slow but if I'm using my backup it's 4 chances per second I wouldn't have if I was on on a trip and my main died.
just wondering if you came across a setting where the flash pops up when reaching a minimum shutter speed ???
That Sigma 18-35 mm Art lens is APSC but a great lens
I bought my D800 about five years ago, and love it. I bought it used, on FleaBay, for, I think, $450. I discovered a year later that it suffers from the left side sensors not working (a common problem with D800s, I hear), but the previous owner, of course, never told me about the issue. Still, since I use the center sensor and back button AF for 99% of my shooting, it doesn't bother me at all. Anyway, I absolutely love the camera, and would get another as a backup if it were in my budget range. Still have two crop sensor cameras , a D7000 and D100, as backups, so getting another isn't a priority. Great camera. Did I mention that it only had 400 shutter actuations when I bought it? That sort of floored me when I checked it out... It's my daily driver, and I love having those 36 megapixel RAW files... Combined with the 28-105mm 'D' Nikkor, it's a great all-around shooter!
Ok…, I did not know this information about the sensor and thank you so much for letting us know for sure !
My back up is a tatty D700 FX …. With a shutter count of 15million lol ;-)
I have 4 in different iterations. 2 x D800, D800e, D810. Great tool. Use with my GFX MF Fujifilm cameras and X series bodies. Your 35mm is a DX lens for cropped sensors. Are you not getting vignetting?
Wow I mean …. It hurt to pull the trigger on the 800 ;-) I respect your aggression ! I have been told that the 850 is also fire ! But it’s still 1500 for a decent copy and I’m not there yet :-)
Also…. Don’t hate …. The 5D mk2 …. Wow
I use a D800 with the 35mm DX F1.8 lens...yes there is slight to moderate vignetting depending on f stop and distance to focus point. This is used in FX mode. It's a hack that alot of people use. The equivalent Nikon 35mm FX F1.8 lens is a dog in comparison. I cannot speak for the 18 to 35mm Sigma for vignetting.
problem 1: how do you reset the D800 to factory specs ( and I mean factory specs :)
Question, What went into the decision to use APSC (DX in Nikon language) lenses on your D800?
GREAT QUESTION! I’m cheap. I’ll rent for jobs but cropping for fun is fine
@@robbellphoto makes sense
I bought one new. Good camera, but the diffusion filter on the sensor ruined it. And the jpegs were not good.
Best camera, mine works like new. They are enough megapixels for me!
I got a pristine D800 for free with only 6000 clicks with some lenses. I love the thing! It stays with me until I or it dies...
My Nikon D800 became kinda part of my body, some extension of my eyes and my hands, but I can tell the same about my D7200 and D810, I'm let's say "Nikon-compatible" :)
I’m actually in the market for a point and shoot with a fast prime lens …. Like yourself , it’s hard for me to consider anything other than Nikon
I'm looking into buying one between the D800 and the D7200. They are similarly priced on the used market. Which do you think would be a better deal?
@@simonnjoroge My friend, my best advice would be forget both of them and try to buy D500. Just mind it's NEF files can't be processed in older versions of Lightroom, like v.6, only in newer ones. But - for me that was a huge surprise when I discovered, how good I can edit it's JPEGs, it's hard to believe first. Exposure, highlights, shadows, colors - everything is editable as nearly as NEF file. The most important, for me at least, I DO WANT to use this camera. It's a big pleasure to work with it. It's good with any lense, and just perfect with 24-70 and 70-200 f/2.8. Full wow-effect and jaw-drop, same with Sigma 17-50 wide angle and Sigma 70-300. D500 can do what most cameras just never can. You can have a look at tinamudotimgbbdotcom, and believe me - I am by far not profi, just very humble skilled amateur.
When did you get the D800 from KEH for $324 and what grade did they place on it?
Just kept an eye and it popped up ! Was bargain grade . KEH has always been great with grade and quality. Arrived looking amazing no issues
is sigma art 18-35 for full frame? or working good on full frame?
Great lens. Not FX but still gets the job done well ;-) better for use with my D300
I just purchased this camera last week as my second camera from keh but I paid $600.00 with tax! How did u get it at such a great price? I love the camera anyway! I also have the 850 which I think is the best camera around!
Lol that makes me want to sell it ;-)
I never use it these days ! It’s great but the 36mp ruins my life
How do you transfer your d800 photos to your laptop or cell phone.. ty
HD cable
Is this a camera that a beginner can use, basically on auto for while you I get used to it
Yes. They are simple to use. In auto. However it is a pro camera and I feel you may be better served to start on a less expensive APS-C camera like the d7100
problem 2: Could you do a full on POP UP FLASH video with all the bells and whistles - Many THANKS !!!
Is there a difference between the D800 and D810 in terms of specifications and image quality, especially in low light and at high ISO?
I have not used the 810 :-( ….
But I LOVE this site
cameradecision.com/compare/Nikon-D810-vs-Nikon-D800
No major difference,if you have a d810 it supports the Nikon web utility application and you can use it as a webcam, thts all!
Better video exp. Better sports n speed. Better power save. Better in details like great second monitor
I just bought a D800 a few months ago and it is everything I have hoped for. Funnily enough though, I’m not rushing to sell the D610 I’ve had for the past 8 years either. I can definitely see the gains in resolution since I’m using the same lenses between both bodies but Incan also see the difference in low-light performance as well with regards to focus ability. Depending on what I’m shooting. The D800 may play backup to the 610 which is one hell of an overkill for a backup. With Astro, the 610 will be my Timelapse camera while the 800 will be used for my stills and deep sky photography attempts. Long story short, you’re not making a mistake buying a D800 in 2023.
Ok here’s the thing …. I just snap D700 and am over the moon happy with the 12mp FX sensor …. The crop lens , when you remove the crop block on the camera when using these make such obscure and soft images it just blows my mind ! Plus it’s 24 less MP to clog my MacBooks memory storage
@@robbellphoto Is the D700 still a cmos or is it a ccd? I myself never had the pleasure of shooting with any of the older cameras but I’ve heard people rave about CCD and the samples posted would seem to show more color saturation with a lean towards warmth. Almost bordering on (cliche coming) film-like in the way the photos look untouched. The D700 is an absolute legend regardless and one of these days I’ll get my chance to take one for a spin :) Note: had the technologies switched the wrong way before an edit.
@@CliffHairston yep it’s CMOS, same as the D3 but on a diet ;-) …. I’m not super tech savvy however the iso performance helps create a buttery smooth YET film vibe, I’d love someone to explain why…. Also, side note… I’m sat in a bar following a shoot at night of Niagara Falls ….. with a D300 …. The 700s baby cousin and wow, what a little champ ;-) review to follow
I purchased one for $80 on ebay...in good condition at that!
Wow that price is perfect
I think its funny that us yanks call Niiiiikon, Neyekon. We all grew up having it pronounced to us that way from our fathers & uncles who had Nikon FE2s in the 80’s.
Lol NIIIIIKKKOOOON ha I still do it
I paid 2500 for mine in 2017.
Just used mine on a shoot , such easy money with this beast ! Just point and shoot (kind of)
2-3 Million dollars could give you multiple super-cars, not a DSLR what?
Unless you are shooting sports, the D800 is even better than D4.
Thanks so much for the comment ! I love the D2HS …. Because it’s so cheap lol (not even close the the performance of the D4 or D3)
@@robbellphoto , I have the D2xs too! It's an amazing build quality camera for a ridiculous price! I don't have the D800 yet, coz im still looking for the cheapest price..
Everyone should seriously PASS on the D800... why?... cause the D810 blows it out of the water. I've owned both... now I'm an owner of two D810s... ;)
Having not shot the 810 I can not comment unfortunately! Thanks so much for the heads up ! Can you elaborate on the Pros of the 810 please :-))))
Hey Gary in So Cal. I would love to hear your thoughts on why the 810 “blows it out of the water”.
Share some specifics.
@@smokingxgunx Faster frame rate, better image processor (Expeed 4), sharper images because of no AA filter, stronger battery life... many more.
@@GaryInSoCal your kidding. Right? Yes ONE frame per second faster LOL. Ummm the D800E has no AA filter and DXO sensor rating on D810 is 97 the 800e is 96. This is what you consider being “blown out of the water” ?
@@smokingxgunx The D800E was NOT the comparison camera... the D800 was.
