The Nikon D80 - How good is it in 2024?
Is this the SWEET SPOT of DSLR cameras? The D80 was packed with some amazing tech 18 YEARS ago. It has the autofocus screw, an awesome sensor, great autofocus and some other goodies the other cameras at the time didn't have ;)

Nikon D100, the Vintage DSLR. Is it still good in 2024??
zhlédnutí 1,6KPřed měsícem
When it was released, the D100 was $5000. Now, you can get one for $50. Although it's a relic in the eyes of modern Mirrorless camera users, it's still a VERY fun camera to use. If you want a camera that has a mix of a film camera feel with the tech of a classic DSLR, the D100 is your answer. Especially if you can find one in good condition. Why are you calling it an Entry Level lens?
Tried to get one, but unfortunately good ones are rarely sold. I really don't want to go with the D610 that has poorer build quality & an inferior AF system
Hi, your subscriber here. I'm building a small Nikon system on the cheap for some reason (I am a M4/3 and Pentax user too), I just bought a D40 and a D3000 and I'll get a Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 soon. Now I just need a stabilized tele, but I'd like to know if you would still consider to buy this Yongnuo if you already have the Tamron. Thanks in advance for your time!
It really depends on your type of photography. But me, personally, I would prefer the Yongnuo 50 1.8 because it fits my style of photography. The 17-50 is VERY versatile as you can zoom but I just like the quality of the 50mm 1.8.
@@BoostLeekdMedia the Tamron has already been reserved for me, however I found a good deal for the Nikkor G 35mm 1.8 and I got that one too. 50mm equivalent is not my favorite focal length but I wanted something very fast too and I thought that maybe the 50mm might be a bit too restrictive. Thanks for your suggestions and for the interesting videos!
I just bought one since I’m a reseller and my girlfriend wanted to start in photography so I gave it to her so start with
Nice! Hope they watched the video. It's still an awesome camera :)
I think it doesn't have af fine-tune or does it?
I just checked and the D40 does not have AF Fine Tune
@@BoostLeekdMedia Thank you very much. My 6mp ccd cameras are a Pentax K100D and a Pentax *ist DS. I'm a bit envious of the fast Nikon 35mm lenses though. There is no equivalent in Pentax land. On the other hand, although these two Pentax bodies do not have af fine-tune as well, you still can do it via the hidden "debug menu", which is part of the firmware.
Thanks for this. I keep on coming back and checking this out. I have a D7100 and I mate it with my micro-Nikkor 105mm 2.8 AF/VR/ED. plus my 28 and 24mm 2.8's that I bought with my F90 and FM2n way back. It's beautiful, but the small RAW files on the D700 plus full frame sounds delish.
Bought my D7000 in 2014 I’ve just upgraded to a Sony A7RV yesterday with the 24-70mm f2.8 GM2 lens. Trying to get back to photography after flying drones for so many yrs. 🥰
This cameras is good but plagued by shutter failure. They all finish like that, just a question of time. It is the worst of the Nikon CCD cameras
Ah, that's what I hear about the shutter too. I think the D50 is probably the worse of the CCD.
Hey there! I just got a Nikon D60 with the 18-55mm lens. Can you guide me on how to set it up for food photography?
If you're just starting out, make sure you have your flash on. If you're doing close up shots of food, put the dial to the 'flower'. Make sure you flash is popped up as well. I hope this helps. It's a great start to food photography. After that, it's just using an external flash to really balance the lighting on the food
I bought my D40 many years ago and it has just sat in it's bag forever. Just dragging it out again (512megabite SD) trying to work out the video mode
Unfortunately, the D40 does not have video recording.
@@BoostLeekdMedia Thanks, I read the manual today differently, and yes you are correct. thank you for your reply
Bought mine February 2020. Still use it.
Very nice! Thanks for sharing!
Will the Nikon Af-S DX Nikkor 18-140 work on the Nikon D 100 ?
yes, it will. That's a great lens!
Thanks for the quick response, I just ordered the D 100 yesterday, and I just wanted to make sure the lens would work on it before I bought it lol. 😂👍
We each have our own needs and personal taste when it comes to cameras. Recently I switched my equipment around and purchased a D810 and a Z6. I like them both but for me the Z6 with the last firmware update is as close to the perfect camera I am going to find when we consider cost, size, features and performance. Few really need more than the Z6 IMO.
100% agree with you. The Z6 is more than enough, especially for those that are looking to upgrade from entry-level DSLR cameras.
I'm using the D40, print it on A4 size photo and i'm shock knowing it's that good with no pixelation
Which tele zoom would you get in combo with this lens? I got some ccd dslr, the Nikon D40 and D3000. I'm trying to save some money because I love Pentax cameras too but I'd like to cover the most important focal length. I chose the version without VR of this lens because they say it's better (would be bice to know how it compares to the Sigma), I guess that some kind of optical stabilization would be nice for a longer lens though. Is the kit lens the best value for money? Thanks in advance 🙏
Depends how much your budget is. I know the F/2.8 zooms like the 70-200 are still pretty expensive. Another tele zoom lens I have seen that's been falling in price is the 70-300 f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED VR lens. It's one I would highly recommend for the price. Best value for the money, I would still vote for this lens, the 17-50 F/2.8. Hope this helps.
@@BoostLeekdMedia I already ordered the 17-50, I was looking for a longer lens to combine with. Not 2.8, just a cheap decent tele with stabilization because of the longer focal length
Thank you
Can i use a sigma DL Hyperzoom 28-300mm use with a D7100/D7200 and can use the af?
As long as it's a Nikon F-Mount, you should be able to. But, if you can test it in person, I would do that before buying it to see if it works.
This can maybe fix your focus issue ;-) czcams.com/video/pi08GkYovYs/video.html
Would you recommend this one instead of canon t100 for someone who is going to be learning?
Depends on your budget. If you're on a limited budget, the D3000 is what I would recommend.
@@BoostLeekdMedia thank you!
Does this work with a Nikon D800
Yes, it will :)
my d200 sits next to a d50, i love them both, they get used the most, next to them sits the twins two 20d canon's, and the outliers, a sony a300, fujifilm hs35exr, and a konica minolta maxxum 7d, next to grandads rollieflex 2.8 planar and his old rolleicord....hope to get a fuji x-t2 soon....
I tried it and it ssays my camera doesn't record shutter count to my images ( canon 5D mark iv)
It looks like the newer canon cameras won't show it unless you look through the EXIF.
Ficou muito bom as fotos!
My wife bought D3000 in 2010 for our wedding gift, used it for in 2011.. and kept in locker since. Last year i took it out, sent it for service to clear mold and only in this few weeks actively taking it for photoshoot. Any recommendations for other lens?
It really depends on your style of photography and why kind of photos you're doing. I would still recommend a 17-50 F/2.8 lens to learn with. The 17-50 F/2.8 lens is a very versatile lens and depending on the condition it's in (from brands like Sigma, Tokina, or Tamron), you can find a few under $150. I hope this helps.
Bought mine in 2011, still using it till now. Decent all rounder APS-C DSLR for any photo, and weather sealed too. Actually i had 3 of them, and a Nikon D610, all still running strong to this day,,🥳
I went from D80 to D200 to D610. I still have the D610.
Sounds to me that it's still good in 2024 too.
100%!
The D3000 was the last Nikon DSLR with a CCD sensor. It is said that it uses the same sensor from the D80.
Yep D90... a legend!
Yes, it is! :D
I have a D3100 I take no care with it I throw it on the car seat beside be I have dropped it several times and all I do is pick it up and shoot, it's my hack or Bessy. I love Bessy.
Haha! Niiiiice. Sometimes, it's just nice to have it there :)
What lens do i need for it
What camera can I use for more professional cookbooks photos etc? Is not ok to use this old cameras at work right ?
You can use any camera. Especially if 99% of your photos are online, no one will be able to tell the differences in image quality between a "new" camera and an "old" camera.
Hahaha i have the problem wirth the side
Seems like every Z6 owners have this issue lol. I really hope the Z6iii doesn't have this issue.
I have this tank and boy am i never letting it go 🔥🔥
Nice! I will use mine until it fades away.
The only way to find shutter count today is to pay for some shit software or take the unit to repair shop. Some cameras show shutter in menu.
@thomascarlsson7722 which cameras show shutter in the menu? If I remember correctly, canon has that shutter count information in either the exif or file details
@@BoostLeekdMedia 1Dx models for example shows SC. Tested the 7D Mark II and it will not show SC on any software if newest firmware. Found a couple of sites that show SC if paying for it. Other info was shown, but not SC.
Hey. Everything You say is wrong. Shutter count is not the file number. Both sites you told about is crap. They show only the file number.
@thomascarlsson7722 other than paying for a "shit program", is there another 'free' option to find shutter count?
@@BoostLeekdMedia Depending on camera model. Seems most has been turned to pay and buy stuff. Not even the Canon EOS Info works if camera is newer than 2014 or its firmware has the SC hided. Thats shit for users and used camera buyers that the actual shutter count cant be taken easily out of the camera.
its released in 2006, and I got it in 2007.
I have Nikon D40 but I don't have lens for my camera
Hope you can get when for not a lot of money. The 18-55 is a very cheap lens and an okay lens to start out with.
@@BoostLeekdMediayeah its cheap but. i have not enough money to buy because I'm just a student. Im from Philippines btw
I've always loved photography, and since watching your videos you've inspired me to take it seriously, I first started to take photos of food! After watching your videos, you've inspired me to take it further. I've just ordered this lens and can't wait for it to come in. Another great video brother! Keep them coming!
That is awesome! Thanks for the kind words. Much appreciated.
I recently purchased a second-hand D90, which comes with 18-105mm 3.5-5.6g and 50mm 1.8D lenses. In the past few years, I used my phone for photography, and the D90 is very suitable for beginners to start with DSLRs. Unfortunately, the D90 is not very useful when there is insufficient light
I agree with the lowlight performance. The D90 was my workhorse and right above ISO1250, it gets pretty grainy.
Just a quick question, can it record basic video? I’m thinking about getting one to record B roll of stage lighting, which will be in dark environments.
the Nikon D40 will not record videos. It does not have any video recording capabilities.
@@BoostLeekdMedia ok thanks
I bought this lens when it first came out in like 98 or 99. I love that lens! It is packed with ED elements. The only issue is the SWM. Once it starts to squeal, it is a sign the motor is dying. All Nikon SWM lenses squeal and die. I hate that. :/ You know that crazy thing is the Nikon internal motor lenses all seem to have a motor that fails. However, I have to say I have never ever had a camera screwdrive servo motor die. As a consequence, I find myself buying older screwdrive D series lenses. I am not doing sports or anything so I don't need ultra fast AF. As long as SWM are still available for repairs, I say keep using that lens!
Thanks! I'm going to keep using it, even after the motor fails.
@@BoostLeekdMedia I'm pretty replacement motors are still available. It's a great lens!
Can this video record?...make movies with?
It does not have video recording.
I STILL have my D80!! 😅 I used to use it to take all my family photos with! I never really learned how to use it fully! But I got lots of great shots of my children! Haven’t used it in years just pulled it out today hoping to learn how to use it to its full capacity! It was expensive to me back 15+ years ago lol!! But even with my ignorance of photography I so much enjoyed using it! And plan to start using it again immediately! I’m literally REstarting from a beginners status! LMBO
This lens can make a nice pictures but when you shoot some three in wet conditions in a backgrounde it makes a lot of very sharp rings and you looses focus from the main part in the picture. Canon 70-200/2.8l is much better in this conditions na faster
The legend. I have two
Hello, what lenses did you use for the portrait that you took?
It was the Tamron 45 F/1.8 lens. It is an amaaazing lens on the D40.
@@BoostLeekdMedia thank you!!!
"Latest is greatest" people are morons with too much money and no taste or class. I've found this to be 100% true. I own an older version of this lens and I call it "sexy" (all my lens have names, like "animal", "the aristocrat", "plastic craptastic" etc, this one is "sexy"). It has this very subtle magical glowy softness yet is razor sharp in all the right places which makes all portraits look like they're straight out of 1980s glossy magazines. Remember, in those days there was no photoshop and lens had to have a character of their own which would produce specific results straight out of camera, and this lens was designed specifically for high-class portraits. As I said, I call it "sexy" and I've had no complaints about it. Especially for portraiture.
Thank you for sharing and 100% agree with you about the quality of the lens. This lens, as you said, definitely gives you unique results and it's one of the reasons why I love using it.
Can I in D60 set the preview on the screen? How to change F settings?
You can preview an image you photograph after taking a photo. As for changing the 'F' or Aperture, you will need to go to 'A' mode (Aperture mode) to change the aperture that way.
I want to purchase Nikon Z6 mirrorless camera.
