    I'm a bit late to this video but this is just what I needed! I have a 2014 Ford Ka which obviously has the same engine which I need to change the head gasket on. This goes a long way to getting me there. I'm not a mechanic but have a healthy interest in mechanics. I'm a construction site manager so I'm used to being methodical and structured. Many thanks for this! Gaz.

    Thanks for the video. Done plenty of cambelts before but not on this engine so it's always worth watching someone else doing it first. I've got the full locking kit and was considering locking the camshaft as per the instructions. My assumption is that they lock the opposite site of the camshaft in case you have to change the pulley as well, but it seems such a fiddle to remove the cam cover and all the other kit connected to it, so I'm tempted to use marks as you have done on my Doblo providing, of course, whoever did it last time did it properly. It runs OK so I'm assuming so. Thanks again for taking the trouble to record the process: certainly the best video of this process I've seen!

    • @diydaly
      @diydaly  Před rokem +5

      Yeah I generally just paint mark em unless there’s an issue or the engine apart etc then you have to pin it correctly , generally if the timing was out they log a cam/crank sync fault .. sames a lot of messing about if you can just paint mark it 👍

    • @bigdaffy22
      @bigdaffy22 Před 10 měsíci +1

      I believe the pulley is on a taper and not keyed. Locking the camshaft and loosening the pulley allows for some adjustment (if teeth not quite meshing with the belt0 but as stated, generally unnecessary

    Thank you for detailed explanation I managed to complete it in 2 days.
    Yesterday i completed it took it for a test drive all was good… today in the morning i started it up and it was knocking.
    So I did the job all over again today and found out that the tensioner had come loose(un-tensioned).
    When trying to re-tension it, i held it in place with the plastic 2 pin tool whilst i did the nut up like you did and it worked. After starting the engine the tensioner guide window thing moved and it became loose again.
    I repeated this process over and over. I could not tighten it more as when i tightened the nut the while thing moved and again moved out of the guide window. Really the plastic 2 pin tool provided wasnt strong enough to hold it whilst I tightened it up.
    So I ended up fitting the old tensioner that seems to grip when you tighten the nut and all is good. However i need to fit a new tensioner perhaps for another day.
    I can’t work out what the problem is with the one i bought in the Dayco kit. Maybe I just need a metal 2 pin tool?
    Also 30nm doesn’t feel like a lot for the tensioner and I feel it would slip and slack the belt so i did it a bit more tighter.
    Normally the block has a grove for the tensioner to slot in to so I really don’t know.
    Any insights would be much appreciated thanks. Again great video!

    • @diydaly
      @diydaly  Před rokem +2

      Not come across any issue with them tbh , I usually fit the gates kits .. never known one to come loose before though , I always torque to 30 Nm .. I little more won’t harm anything though .. I’ve only im ever used the metal tensioning tool so can really speak for the plastic one but can’t imagine it’s up to much! 🤣.. 🤞 everything works out this time!

    Have you come across the P0016-76 fault code before? Camshaft/Crankshaft out of sync. Happened all of a sudden. I've seen it's possible for the vvt solenoid filter screen to clog up.

    Hi really awesome video. Q my aunts Grand Punto's thermostat housing and water pump leaked and the car cut out from what I expect is the over heating as I doubt there is a fail safe for that.
    No the problem is it backfiring in the manifold and some one reckons it jumped a tooth on the cambelt, could that be.

    • @diydaly
      @diydaly  Před 2 lety +2

      Thanks for the comment! They are not the strongest engines and if it’s heat siezed the belt could have easily jumped a tooth but chances are it may have done some more serious damage , I’d do a head gasket test first then check the timing

    Hi, had a cambelt kit and water pump change done 1000 or so miles ago on Ford Ka 2013 1.2.Same engine as fiat 500. Now developed an intermittent misfire on two cyclinders 1 and 4 according to OBD codes and goes into limp mode, eml and stop start lights coming on . Turning off engine and restarting solves problem until the next time . Has had ingition pack and leads and plugs changed. Still having intermittent issues so could this be the cam belt timing is out from the replacement work? Same symptoms as if faulty crank shaft sensor but no obd codes for that so far. Most puzzled and potentially dangerous issue. Any advice appreciated...will send your vid to my mechanic too. Thanks for your vids!

    Hi, I am losing coolant from the system at the right side of the engine under that aluminium cube that has those two electric multi-pole connectors with the red plastic lever that holds them at place. It is not leaking from that hose that comes out from the coolant tank on the right side and goes towards the engine, but behind it somewhere - which I cannot see without removing that electric related aluminium box.
    It starts to leak when I start the engine, everytime I have to fill the system up again. Can you please recommend a video for fixing it, or any page from a service manual? Thank you!

    Please be careful with these torque settings. Not sure about the 1.2, but I stripped the bolt holes in my 1.4 engine (aluminium) torquing them to 55Nm and had to get time-serts put in at great cost. The workshop manual says 25Nm for these bolts for the 1.4 (although 60Nm for the other right side engine mount bracket bolts, which are steel into steel as opposed to steel into alu for the ones I stripped).
