Duffer Brothers on inspiration behind Netflix's "Stranger Things"

- Netflix said Wednesday that nine new episodes of "Stranger Things" will debut next year. The sci-fi series is one of the most talked about shows of the summer. Set in the 1980s, "Stranger Things" is the brain child of 32-year-old Matt and Ross Duffer, twin brothers from North Carolina. Jamie Wax reports.
I bet even they didn't imagine how much of a success the series will be, it's been brilliant

We gotta give credit to netflix for letting people use their platform for their crazy ideas. This show oddly reminds me of anime at times.
It was also inspired by Elfen lied so maybe that's why it reminds you of anime

The acting in this series is amazing. Especially considering they’re teenagers. Not saying teenagers are less capable or anything and I’m a teenager. But they don’t seem to have any stage fright or overact or under act. These directors made a great choice with the casting.

Growing up in INDIANA in the 80's myself and going off on adventures with my group of friends....how awesome!! It takes me back to my childhood. Just finished Season 3 and literally laughed so loud at them showing focus on the hideous WANDER plates...so hilarious. Love it!!
Must’ve been a great time where kids played outside, people actually went out and talked to each other instead of doing everything online like nowadays. I also imagine that people were more open back then and cared more for the others and their surroundings

I just want to thank the Duffer brothers for creating this show...I'm 49 years old and everyday I find myself reminiscing and missing my childhood and teen years more by the day.I think the fact that I lived those years through the 80s makes it so very hard to forget them.I was just stuck in a world where I go to work and come home with nothing really to look forward to...but now I'm like a kid ..busting in the door to get that remote and see what these kids are up to next..I feel like I'm right there with them...so many memories have been stirred up with this show.....guys keep up the good work and please bring us many more seasons
earthbound is the first. In which was also made in the 80s with pretty much of the same thing.. So basically they copy off Nintendo. They even dress like them... Plot is the same. Just look it up
@@TheDoombugg Don't have to look it up, I loved Earthbound. It wasn't made in the 80s, it came out in 1995. And all of the similarities in the show are totally generic, doubt there's any actual connection
Yes and back in the 80s there was always new things to be excited about because everything was new original ideas. Now the movies and TV shows aren't original they are just bad rip offs of that time period. I feel old saying this, but it was just a different time back then lol. I'm only 39. I feel so blessed to have grown up then before Social media and technology. I feel like I got a real childhood. I would hate to grow up in late 90s, 2000. At times I feel sorry for kids now.
Watching this show is tremendous! As a child of the 80s I love picking up on the stuff we had back in the day from the old chairs, sleeping bags, clothes, and even a cooking timer. Keep up the GREAT work Duffer brothers!!!

Even the monsters in earthbound which was called strange creature or weird object, flying thing, etc. The main boss was some 6 legs freak that was in the shadow
This is where Hollywood is failing... they've stopped taking chances... and the only way you can create fresh new breakthroughs like they did in the 80s was by taking chances on new ideas. Movies and storytelling are art, and it needs freedom to flourish.
Now-a-days, Hollywood imo is only interested in 2 things really and truly: continuing franchise films with 10,000-people CGI teams and making as much money on summer blockbusters or "Oscar-worthy" films as possible. Basically, money. Craft and storytelling are forgotten elements in filmmaking compared to Dwayne Johnson's next blockbuster hit
Love the Duffer Bros - it’s like everyone who has a brother also born in the 80s like them loves this show - I know my brother and I do - it speaks volumes.
Looking back on the first season gives me the feels. That music.
The TV programme sucks for me but I liked how they paid homage to ELFEN LIED, one of the most extreme and graphic animes ever made!

I've been waiting for someone to do a proper remix of this track for years ( I mean com on, being rooted in 80s new-wave/synthpop with excellent vocals? natural!). I am glad that Netflix took on Stranger Things. I wouldn't be able to enjoy it. I love this show so much. So do my sister, nephews Konrad and Kyle. Plus my niece Harmony. We all enjoy this show very much.

Has the Drug Enforcement Agency contacted Netflix yet? As of yesterday the DEA has tagged Stranger Things as Schedule One narcotic. ST is a drug and we're all addicted. If Season Three doesn't air soon, we are going to have 12 year olds in back alleys try to score cassette tapes and vacuum tubes. PLEASE GIVE US SEASON THREE !

Just having finished watching the Season 4 "Finale" about an hour ago from this post, am I at all surprised to hear the Duffer brothers went through ~1,000 teen-child actors' screening tapes in order to cast Eleven, Mike, Dustin, Lucas and Will? At first, maybe. But truthfully, no, not at all. Tells me they were dead-set on putting in all the effort needed to get it all right--from script to story to cast.

Two geniuses
I grew up in the 80s they were the best times. Before Social media and special affects. Everything was original and exciting as far as movies. Nowadays it's sad. There's no new ideas or imagination. It's just special affects and copying old movie ideas again over and over. The original Jurassic Park is still the best and if it was released today as new it would stand. Goonies a masterpiece, The Predator movies, Indiana Jones, to name a few. They where great movies because of the storyline and characters. There's just something so special about Movies from the 80s and 90s that's unlike another time period. I'm so grateful I was born in the early 80s:)

This is a cool series, it kinda reminds me of the movie Aliens, the Sci-fi series Helix, and the movie Under the Skin with Scarlett Johansson.

Last 2 brothers got together for something big was for the matrix. They both left their wives and became stranger things. Good show of what really goes on in life but people so sick they don't see the truth.

hollywood is just too paranoid not to mention that stranger things producers got their idea from anime because they are embarassed to say that they're out of ideas.

Another project that steals ideas from Grant Morrison's Invisibles without ever giving him credit (like The Matrix), they even had the nerve to include graffiti lifted straight from the comics in S2E7. Can only hope that one day we get a proper adaptation and GM gets the credit he deserves.

Just wish the Duffer Bros. hadn't blatanty ripped off Charlie Kessler who made "Montauk" in 2012. If you watch Kesslers "Montauk", it's evident the Dufflers not only stole concept, including inverting the sky/what's up becomes what's down, but some of the sound/music as well is clearly pilfered... i love Stranger Things, but these Brothers are flat out plagiarists.

The guy who pitched it even had his own short-film that he showed them called "Montauk".
Later Duffer brothers started making "Stranger Things" and even called the first few drafts "Montauk" haha

Yeah, watched the whole video and they didn't say much about the influences they took for the show, besides that's set in the 80's.
What they don't say, though, is that the main idea was taken from an anime called Elfen Lied from 2004, so it's a total rip off. Just go watch it and you'll know what I mean. After all these years since Stranger Things came out, I can honestly say there's almost nothing original about it. First season is great, season 2 super boring and predictable, season 3 steped it up, and 4 is just a drag, sooo predictable, cliche villain and way unnecesary long episodes.
I'm 11 like shyt. Which is why I don't fit in w/the many evil people I've encountered in this world.
