    “You will Honor your mother and abandon this path you have chosen”
    ....”It is not too late”
    Hearing his voice break a little at the last line really shows how terrified he is of thinking that the only thing he passed on to his son is his (Kratos) unstable rage and attitude towards other living beings...like he lost his soul without making a deal with a god....Kratos sees it’s his influence that is really affecting his son and how he sees himself as superior b/c of a title

    • @TheArsenalgunner28
      @TheArsenalgunner28 Před 3 lety +95

      Kratos didn’t see himself as superior because he was a god, nor did he lack compassion for living beings. It’s because of his love for his family that his vengeance was unleashed upon the gods. He hates Zeus for his lies about his brother and what he has done as well as how he treated mortals.
      Kratos hates gods yes, he hasn’t changed since the last game in that regard and he would probably still kill Zeus...but he has control over his anger now. When he destroyed all the gods of Greece he no longer had anything to hate and so his endless anger and rage went to the only place it had left to go, upon himself.
      When you hate yourself, you are crueller on your actions and self reflective. And so kratos learned from his mistakes and decided to live in exile and see out the rest of his days alone and live with the pain of his guilt and destructive nature...until he meets Faye, who taught him to love again and gave him a reason to live.
      The reason Kratos fears telling Artreus the truth is that he fears he will lose him, he fears judgement from his own son. He wants him to live as a mortal, as Kratos remembers his happiest memories when he once believed himself to be mortal. He wants his son to live a life that he never had.
      He didn’t lie to artreus because he was afraid he’d take the title of ‘being a god’ as being superior because that’s not what kratos did himself. He did it to try and protect him. He says it himself, as a god ‘you marked, you are a target’.

      And really, Atreus only knows what happened because he saw that vision of Kratos killing Zeus. That wasn't by Kratos's own choice.
      And this goes back to a bit of who Kratos was in the first games. He didn't want to deal with his grief and negative emotions so he turned to murdering the people he believed caused it all.

Even after his family's death, he (literally) stepped on innocent people to get ahead. He absolutely is better than that in the later games, but to deny his origins and try to say Atreus is just uniquely a brat disrespects the character development he's gone through and Kratos' own introspections. People seem to forget this, but this is Kratos's first scolding towards the insane Atreus.
    It's clear that, for all Kratos's displeasure with his son's childish exuberance, he still sees Atreus as his son and knows how Atreus is the heart of the two. Kratos needs Atreus's good nature more than he likes to admit because the child brings the best of all situations. And just seeing Atreus becoming a bratty piece of garbage hurts him a lot, and the scolding is the breaking point of Kratos's tolerance.
    And for certain, Kratos's scolding is VERY effective and efficient. No long-winded speeches or Aesops. Just a hard calling-out and that's it. Afterward, Atreus is relatively quick to be back to his good-natured self.

    The most respectable thing is that even when he is angry at Atreus, he doesn't resort to violence against his son. He is a true father.
