Given how Mimir stated in his many stories that he's traveled to different lands (he himself is Scottish), it is very likely that he heard the stories told of the Ghost of Sparta who slew the Olympians.
It's kinda like how in Marvel, you heard stories of the Unkillable Mutant called "The Wolverine". and then you meet a grumpy old dude named Logan who turns out to be this legendary warrior who killed everything that stood in his way.

GyariSan1 Not really. Kratos made a deal with Ares that he'd be his faithful servant and do Ares bidding if Ares gave Kratos the strength to do his bidding. So really, Kratos was only honoring his part of the deal when Ares tricked him into killing his family. Kratos wanted power, damn the consequences. Once he had the power and suffered the consequences he decided "fuck honoring a deal i made" and went forward to destroy the world. At the end of 1 all he wanted was to die. At the start of 2 he got his wish as Zeus killed him, only for Kratos to want revenge for Zeus fufilling Kratos's wish. Kratos is a raging madman that just want to blame everyone else for his mistakes, to Tartaros with the consequences and the people that suffers because of him

While Hades is more of a bottleneck river for souls to pour down into, Hel is a realm that actively prevents its dwellers, visitors and condemned from ever escaping. Hela doesnt even control her own realm, since its more like part of her like an organ; you use and possess organs, but cannot directly control them. Even if Hela were to desire Kratos' escape, she couldn't ever let him do so because her realm is created to keep the tormented in and never let anything out. Also, from what I can gather, only Greece was devastated by his rampage. From Tyr’s vault, we can gather that in the centuries following this, the Greeks have been rebuilding. When he released the power of Hope, he allowed the survivors to recover.

Hell yeah they did! Does anyone realize how petty and pathetic they are? Even before Kratos popped open Pandora’s box they were slaughtering herds of people over disputes of control and they forced men and women to suffer either because they were famous or because of some stupid bets. The Iliad, the Odyssey? The rest of those Greek tragedies where gods forced men to prove their worth or come to some moral realization of something detrimental? The Greek gods toyed with mankind. Whoever wrote Kratos’ story is shedding light on the “what if” someone was done with the God’s bullshit and decided to go on a murder spree.

I've heard alot of people say kratos was evil. But I personally believe that much like the Greek gods themselves, morality is far more ambiguous than "good and bad" kratos was a man driven by ambition early on (after swearing allegiance to aries ♈) but still demonstrated care for his men and Sparta as a whole. He also loved his wife and daughter dearly seeing especially as he risked his life to get his daughter ambrosia to heal her sickness.
This compassion and empathy for those he deemed precious tempered his savagery and bloodlust, and after aries made kratos drown that little flicker of goodness with blood and rage it broke him. Imagine if someone did that to you guys? You devote your life and soul to someone and they make you butcher the only two people that you care for. (Not to mention what they did to his brother Deimos) it'd drive any man even one who was "good" far past the edges of sanity. (Am I over thinking this?; Probably..)

Kratos' story closely mirrors that of Heracles. Jealousy at Zeus' infidelity drove the goddess Hera to induce a bloodlust frenzy on the illegitimate son, Heracles. Heracles murdered his entire family, and was made to atone for that sin by performing a series of impossible labors for the gods. And when he was done, he tried to kill himself, but was instead elevated into full godhood
