Sims 1
Sunny The Tragic Clown was first introduced in The Sims: Livin' Large as an NPC visitor. If your Sims are feeling down and unhappy, which in The Sims 1, being the hardest game in the Sims franchise is not an unusual thing. If you happen to have this painting on the wall, expect things to get more depressed.. If that's even possible. Sunny The Tragic Clown will arrive to cheer up your Sims. The Tragic Clown will follow your Sim coughing and crying every step of the way.
He'll always try to perform three types of tricks for you
Joggling with bowling pins, making balloon animals, and his dove trick.
And he will always fail
One way to get rid of the tragic clown is to slap him until he's happy. You can also hire the Clown Catchers to capture the Tragic Clown. It will cost you §500. If your Sim's mood improves, the Tragic Clown will create a magic hole and jump in to leave . Selling the Tragic Clown painting didn't remove the clown. But burning it definitely did.
Sims 2
In The Sims 2, The Tragic Clown is not present as an NPC. In fact, he is missing. There is a picture of The Tragic Clown on a milk carton when Sims are preparing a meal. Like he disappeared. In The Sims 2, when Sims social needs are too low, they'll be visited by The Social Bunny . But unlike the tragic clown, the social bunny is always successful in making Sims feel better. After making things better, The Social Bunny will leave.
Sims 3
In The Sims 3, The Tragic Clown is present in the game, but unfortunately, he is already deceased and buried in the Pleasant Rest Graveyard. His tombstone can be found on the east side of the Graveyard. The color of his ghost is blue, indicating that he drowned, drowning is unusual given his hydrophobic trait. With Sims 3: Supernatural, other Sims can become The Tragic Clown for a period of time. Sims with level 10 in Alchemy, can use the alchemy table to craft the Tragic Clown elixir. You can drink this elixir yourself, mix it in a drink, or throw it on someone else. This elixir will turn the Sim into a Tragic Clown for 24h. Sims can also become a Tragic Clown by using the phonebox transporter (LLAMA)
Sims 4
The Tragic Clown reappeared in The Sims 4. And Like in The Sims 1, if you have The Tragic Clown painting in your home, and Sims who view the painting repeatedly, will receive the "Tragic Clown is Tragic" moodlet and become sad. But this will also increase the chances of The Tragic Clown being summoned to the lot. Unlike The Sims 1, the Tragic Clown is a randomly generated townie Sim. The Clown is not an Independent character. Because they are a townie, you can interact with them same as with any other Sim, you can even add them to the household.
The Tragic Clown will most often try to juggle apples, but will fail every time
The Sim that is near the Tragic Clown will receive the "Such Tragedy" moodlet.
Any Sim that wears the Tragic Clown Outfit will become The Tragic Clown. Sims wearing the outfit and will have the permanent "Tears of a Clown" moodlet. However, but when two Tragic Clown Sims are near each other , they'll both receive the "Misery Loves Company" moodlet, giving them a +1 happy boost. You don't have to worry about getting rid of The Tragic Clown, because they'll leave on their own the same day.

It's like in The Sims 2 he was missing, but then in The Sims 3 we found out he is dead by drowning, so, someone killed him or something? Creep, but it's nice EA created this "story" to fan's theories
At first, I did not find clowns creepy, but the I read "It," by Stephen King. Many comedians have also made the claim to be laughing on the outside, but crying on the inside, hence the tragic backstory of the fictional Joker, and the tragic demise of many comedians (i.e. Robin Williams).
As for one of the Sim Lore theories, the Tragic Clown could have tragically drowned in a pool of his own tears.

Sims 4 clown as always makes it feel like they copy the physical aspect of something but have no idea what made it work in the first place. Sims 1 just gets the idea right, it's supposed to be HAUNTING, not a freaking moodlet xD

Look for family stories from all the games in the franchise, there are a lot of interesting things about the residents of the worlds (except 4 who did not commit themselves to this)

I love how unexpected Sims was. The Tragic Clown, hamster/guinea pig disease, burglars, and fireworks indoors are all very much in our memories. Loved how your video just let the sounds play out and delighted how you paired your quiet comment of the Sims 1's challenge level with apt scenes

The more I watch your videos, the more I remember why I thought Sims 1 was so weird as a kid. I loved the game, but I always had a sort of uneasy feeling when I played it. Having to distract and entertain the clown yourself is a really funny idea.
I think it's a shame that the clown has become a sort of townie in The Sims 4. Anyway, the lack of fun NPCs in this game makes it really empty. It's crazy that Sims 1 (and 2) are often the most interesting games in the franchise.

Makes sense that he's dead in the prequel sims 3 and then in the sims 1 he's basically a supernatural being like a ghost or demon since you cant trap him he can just teleport out of it through a hole. Plus you literally have to either burn his painting similar to deleting a grave or call a special service. Not even the police will help you here.
I do not think there is any relevant competition here, neither Sims 3, nor Sims 4 could reach the level of eeriness that Sunny brought to The Sims! I was sad when he was missing in Sims 2, but I do love the Social Bunnies, as well as the therapist, which is missing from all other games, tragically (pun intended).

To me, the only one that did it good is the Sims 1. Not even my beloved TS3. I hate when in the Shit 4 even Father winter is not an NPC but a townie. It breaks the immersion when every other minute he calls to ask for something.

I think it would have been more fitting for the Sims 3 Tragic Clown to have died from fire rather than drowning since you could kill him with fire in the Sims 1. That would have been a nice callback. Also I find it ironic how one of his traits in the Sims 3 is excitable when he is meant to represent the sad clown archetype was very gloomy in the first game.
I think the cause of death and the hydrophobic trait might be to spark theories of either suicide or murder, or that he died from drowning in his tears. There is also no "sad" trait in the base game of TS3, if I remember correctly. He has the clumsy trait, maybe insane or neurotic would've been a better fit instead of excitable

Sims 1 was so traumatic for me! My dad worked for a computer/software company and often got computer games as a gift from partnerships. One of them was Sims 1. It was all in English, which isn't my first language and I hadn't learned it yet (I was 5 or 6 at the time). My Sims died constantly, kids were sent to military school, etc.
Imagine my shock when this fucking clown turned up and wouldn't leave! I was so lost 😂
I had to get my mom to help me, she googled it and got rid of this face-painted bastard. 💀

Crazy how even the original sims game is so much better than sims 4
There was still a carpool even in Sims 1! It even improved as you went up the job track and had different cool options for each career so it was a good way to measure progress. It's pretty sad that Sims 4 doesn't even have that.
Just from looking at the thumbnail you can see the cheapness of the Sims 4. They tried to recreate the clown from the Sims 1 but they couldn't be bothered with putting a full pineapple necklace/choker on him and gloves and (probably) shoes are not the right colors. Pathetic lack of attention to detail as usual. And why is the bottom half of his face paint red? It doesn't look realistic enough to invoke the feeling of concern that he might have been injured and is thus bloodied up; it doesn't exactly make him look funnier or especially creepy either (again because the red looks like really bad fake blood).
