Admittedly I was military LE, not civilian, so things might be different, but my active sholter training was, "It doesn't matter if you have an M4 or an M9, if you're alone or with a team. If you arrive on the scene of an active shooter, you're duty is to go in and neutralize the threat as soon as possible."
Thank you for your service.
I might be wrong but I think nearly 3/4 of americans who CC would rush in to stop the shooting, probably 19/20 once its in an elementary school.
Police officers don’t have duties anymore says the Supreme Court.
There is one difference here though. You should have trained at least once a week on some form of attack or an emergency drill. You knew that there was back up coming. Failing that you probably had your stuff wired all the time after the green on green stuff started happening. You can't really live that why here though. I mean it almost cost me my family trying to shake that paranoia.

"When seconds count, police will handcuff you and hold you down while your daughter dies."
And sometimes “When the police are minutes away, help is still an hour away.”

The cops could have watched this whole breakdown in the time it took to go into that classroom.
OH MY GOD
This 1 singular statement shows exactly how long they were waiting.
I could have cleared my entire workplace in that time.
Damn, someone call the cops. Shots fired! (Don't call Uvalde PD, though.) 😂😂😂
In the academy they basically said, it doesn't matter if they are fully armored with fully automatics, you are basically a distraction, if you can't stop the threat, distract it at the very least. anything to stop the killing of innocent life.

Chief was afraid to die, that was the holdup. Putting all the control in the hands of a coward is what the problem was here.
Yes so true
Does the commander in scene must go in himself?
@@advancedmonkey7702 in the case of a school shooting, yes. The lives of multiple children outweigh the value of any single adult, every time, you can't possibly make an argument that would change my mind.
@@armouredjester1622 No I am asking if the protocol states that the commander in scene must go in with the breach team. if not, the guy is just incompetent, not necessarily a coward.
@@advancedmonkey7702 A) incompetent and coward are not mutually exclusive, I would argue that for police these two go hand in hand B) I do not know or care about protocol in the case of a school shooting, regardless of what your boss says, you have a moral obligation to save the children whose lives are actively in danger. C) I have two reports from former LEO both civilian and military that first on scene is required to go in and attempt to neutralize. Not sure if accurate.
Currently a Deputy, we're taught direct to threat first thing. It's what we signed up for, what you mentally rehearse for, and what you hope never happens... but practice for. I'm embarrassed and ashamed of these first responders. These children deserved better.

I can't see the two replies to your comment, CZcams gonna censor...
These cops want to make a great salary with great benefits while writing tickets and intimidating kids that throw house parties, not be heros.

Word.
What if your chief told you to stand down and arrest any citizens trying to salvage loved ones?. That's what happened
The response by the police was absolutely embarrassing, The police with military gear paid for by taxpayers were turning away fathers armed with firearms trying to take out the shooter while their children were being shot so many times they were unable to be identified. 🤬🤬🤬the Uvalde police department and police chief should be very VERY scared of their citizens right now.
It was 1 vs 3 - 4. Thats basically robbing a gun store with customers.
Turning away?
No say it as it was. They attacked those parents. They used pepper spray and tazers, then handcuffed them and forced them to listen to their children being executed.
The police where willing to use more force against parents then they where against the shooter.
Their response was far more than embarrassing it was down right criminal. The officers deserve a prison cell in general population with a very large bootie bandit.
I’m from Scotland, the last school shooting we had was in 1996 at Dunblane, so we don’t get incidents like this very often. We do have armed cops, Armed Response Officers, and whilst incidents like this don’t happen often, they are trained for it, that even if they’re by themselves they do what they can to protect innocent lives, so seeing what happened at Uvalde is blood boiling and rage inducing, I just cannot believe how poorly this was handled and the local enforcement let so many innocents lose their lives, it’s heartbreaking. The fact local law enforcement just stood by and let all that happen and didn’t even TRY is what gets me the most.
There's 11millionnnn armed invaders in your country.
The police have done nothing leading to a vvar
We were on a bank shooting scene where my incident commander ordered me and two other officers to standby while hostages needed to be rescued. We just radioed what we were doing and went and did it anyway. That's an order I happily disobeyed. Thanks for the breakdown Donut.
I wish you were there that day. Obviously, it needed someone like you, and the two others you were with, to do what you do. It’s so incredibly sad. Thank you for being a good guy. 🌸
Bingo! This is why I believe those other officers were cowards too. They’re just hiding behind the coward chief now.

One thing that sticks out to me as a physician is by not confronting the shooter quickly the police not only caused more people to be shot but also almost certainly caused some of the wounded to bleed to death from wounds that would have been survivable had they received prompt medical attention. I heard two of the children died in the ambulance an hour after being shot ( obviously I cannot confirm this being true). The majority of people who die from gunshot wounds die from exsanguination ( bleeding to death) and the name of the game with gunshot wounds is getting the paitent to surgery ASAP. Thanks for all you do Donut.
What's worse it the kids who called out because the police told them too and we gunned down. Police literally got kids killed.
Yes! Every time they said casualties it pissed me off. They all didn't die instantly. Many of them suffered. Many of them stayed quiet even in pain and fear because that's what they know to do in that situation. Who knows how many were alive at 5 minutes in or 10 or 30 or even 45. So many could have been saved. So many. So many.
@@ShesSoHuggable why does it make you mad when he says casualties?
Poor kids watching their classmates bleed to death.
From a life-saving perspective yeah, go make the bad guy lay down (for the rest of his life) and get aid to those who need it. I would imagine EMTs, paramedics, etc. were chomping at the bit to get in there and help but were unable because of the slow LE response. Not only did this response almost certainly cost lives, but I don’t think it’s a stretch to say it likely emboldens future shooters. Instead of only getting a few minutes to do what they want, they might get an hour plus. They should expect and receive a swift lethal response every single time. We can’t afford to give these guys any encouragement.
I am a metal worker in Switzerland and the first thing I see here is that although escape doors are installed at the main entrances, they can be locked with electronic locking systems, especially in US school buildings, but they can be opened at any time in the event of a fire from the inside. Example: When class starts at 9:00 a.m., all doors lock automatically and open again in the afternoon when school is over. However, the doors can be opened from the inside at any time, even in the event of a power failure (fire, etc.), with the escape door function. Every school should have that. In addition, the three panes next to the door and the glass in the door leaf must be made of laminated safety glass. It's not bulletproof, but you can't just shoot it up either. Because the glass itself consists of a fine aluminum frame sealed with butyl, containing an insulating gas such as argon, and on the outside of this frame there are at least two panes of glass laminated to each other with a transparent film. Bullet-proof panes are constructed in a similar way, except that they naturally have many thin glasses glued on top of each other. It is precisely such simple measures that would make the schools much more difficult to access "targets" and would certainly have prevented many rampages. Not all, but many... Such measures must still be carried out in front of armed teachers. This measure also offers the best cost-benefit ratio. Because, unfortunately, this also plays a role in decisions in poorer districts.
You're overthinking it. Remote lock is a waste of money compared to fire exit doors which stay locked unless opened from inside. Furthermore the doors must be made of metal, because glass doors are as stuoid as building a house out of straw or twigs

I appreciate the giggle. I was in tears the entire video. My daughter, she JUST turned 4, started pre-K a couple months ago. When I tell you I pace at work the entire time she’s gone…I’ve worn through a brand new pair of sneakers and I’m halfway through my second new pair. I would feel so much relief if there were armed veterans at the door, which should be the ONLY way in and ONLY way out. The experience veterans have, the gut feelings they would get, they would be invaluable. They ARE invaluable. I love you Donut! My brain is shit all the time. Sounds like the "Chief" is totally incompetent and honestly should be fired/charged for his part in this.

It has been out there that the so called chief decision was not to take radio to be able to handle his weapons. Not sure on validity. Also reports are he was donating money to "Beto Os" go blue gun gun grab agenda. Again no validity but myself personally. The beginning of this is very telling that we have to be prepared to take care of each other and ourselves. No one is coming.

The cops had body armor, the children did not. They had weapons, the children did not. They had training, the shooter had none.
That was a strong quote. There were a number of good ones from that guy.
That's the problem, we need to arm the masses
In fairness, it doesn’t take much training to sit with a gun pointed at a door and blast anyone who comes through it.
It’s still no excuse for the hesitance of the police to breach that room. It seems like even the cops at the scene are chafing from the order.
Absolutely disgusting.
The cops didn't know the shooters level of training. That's really never a consideration in their decision making.
Surprised the chief didn't wait for the armored car and the Esperanto translator to arrive. What a brave man for taking such risks.
DPS agent responded: “if there’s still kids inside, we just need to go in.” This man should have been in charge of this situation. He wanted to go in there.
Also the Ruiz officer, which wife was shot dead at the classroom, she was calling him on the phone that she's shot, he wanted to rushed there slone, but the Chief stopped him. What a asshole.

The fact that the Uvalde police have stopped working with the Texas department of Public Safety and even went as far to bar them from further investigation should be a wake up call that something more sinister is at work here.
They are also harassing the families that have gone public with their outrage. Sick twisted pos department, the entire building needs a thorough investigation and review. I bet that there's book cooking and stuff there. No way you harassing victims families after YOUR FAILURE!!!!!
Small town I guess? It's strange all around. More than one official said the shooter's family were great people, which is an outright lie. Strange people and situation.
Fire all .grap the evidence before it is destroyed.
This situation can't be justified. The children and teachers were defenseless and the police department had resources to end that much sooner. They have nothing to be proud of

First and foremost, doors that should have been locked to and from outsiders were unlocked do to complacency. Everyone working there is at least in some way responsible, there is no excuse. We must point out the painfull truth, if we are to learn from this terrible massacre.
@@zazenite6097 I wholeheartedly agree. I come from a law enforcement family. It breaks my heart to say anything negative about law enforcement. It began with laxed school and unprepared cops. Everybody shared in that tragedy.
I watched a movie about a guy I knew back in high school who while unarmed rushed a gunman with an AK47 and stopped a mass shooting on a train in France… then the very next morning heard about a dozen armed and body armored police officers hiding outside a classroom for an hour during a mass shooting. Not even one of them had a fraction of the strength and courage of Spencer Stone.

This is criminal negligence on the part of the ‘chief’, and I’d wager that with the responding officers aswell. They needed to say ‘Fuck you, let’s go.’ and ignore the chief because he was obviously incompetent according to this analysis.

He will have to live with his cowardice for the rest of his life. But he had the chance to save his wife and decided not to. My sympathy is for the parents outside who tried to go in and save their children but where attacked by officers like the guy checking his phone.

that stuff is for the people who don't pay taxes
Attorney here, I am beyond disappointed in these officers. I am a huge supporter of law enforcement but these officers failed those children, each and every one of them.
I understand it’s a hard and stressful situation but you are a police officer, if you’re going to go into the occupation you are expected to be willing to put your life on the line to save others, especially children.
My father was in law enforcement for 32 years 15 of those as the chief of his department until his life was stolen while protecting a victim of domestic violence.
Admittedly, initially I was angry. I was mad my fathers life was stolen. I was acting as though I was the victim of a horrible crime in which claimed my fathers life but I was looking at it all wrong.
My father was not a victim, my father was a hero, a hero to the actual victim of domestic abuse in which he saved her life. As hard as it is for me to say, if my dad were given 100 chances to deal with the incident that took his life differently he would do the exact same thing 100 times over because he understood what he was and what his duty to the public was. He understood he entered this occupation to make a difference and save lives which is exactly what he did.
My father gave his life to save a women that was 23 years old. She was innocent, she was young, she was full of potential. I can happily say I am still in contact with her to this very day and she is a nurse saving life’s which she has told me on numerous occasions she devoted her time to go into an occupation to save lives to my father because she feels she owes that to him. It broke my heart seeing her and how guilty she felt for over 3 years until years of counseling has finally gotten her to realize he would have done that time and time again and all she can do is make use of her life and live it to the fullest extent.
Now I say to you, this was 1 women I father saved. 1 women that is a nurse that is currently obtaining her MD and has saved who knows how many lives.
There were 19 innocent children that lost their lives. What is the potential of 19 children? Those 19 children were on the other side of a door from these officers while they stood there and let them bleed out. Every police agency I know of has a policy on mass shootings, since the columbine shooting every single department I am aware of states the officers are to rush in as quickly as possible and neutralize the threat. Instead they sat outside a door for over an hour while the most innocent people we have to offer were bleeding, deceased, or watching their friends die. I am absolutely disgusted with the response of these officers.
I gave it time to give them the benefit of doubt for some bomb shell reason of why they didn’t enter that room and I waiting and waited and by day 3 you know what the answer for why the room wasn’t entered? Nothing. Not one damn reason. I’m not blaming officers for mass shootings, there is nothing they can do to prevent someone that is sick enough in the head to go shoot children but I am absolutely blaming them for their response. They are cowards. They are in law enforcement for the wrong reason. They never should have put a badge on.
Your dad died a hero. Sad that his life was taken too soon, but he was protecting a young lady, and it warms my heart that you still talk to her.
My thoughts are with you, Brock. And I thank him for his service, and saving lives, and her life that day. Stay safe out there.

Not sure if your religious, but if you are I'm sure you'll know he'll be getting pats on the back all round wherever he is.
Every one of those cops should have resigned in shame, and if not they should be fired.
Well said. I’m terribly sorry for your loss. Your father was a hero.
A reminder the governor of Texas was fighting the rights for the video not to be release because he was “appreciating” how the police officer settled the issue
You know someone is mad when they compare it to columbine massacre in the opening statement.
I did 26 years in LE and retired now. Every last one of those officers that stood in that hallway at minimum should be fired if they haven't resigned yet. How in God's creation can a full-grown man live with himself knowing what was happening to those children while he stood in that hallway armed to the teeth. Sickening!
JUST fired? You don't think there should be any LEGAL ramifications for this? Just as a former LEO I want your opinion. So if I failed at my job so catastrophically, I caused multiple children their lives, I shouldn't be help legally responsible despite the fact I COULD have made a difference? Genuinely asking not trying to antagonize.

If the chief was holding officers back whilst not organizing a plan, he needs to be held accountable for the negligence.
Absolutely agree, i see alot of people pointing fingers at all the cops (with it being such a tragedy you can only expect that though) but i personally believe the real people that need to be punished are the people who hindered progress on that day, so the chief, and anyone else who delayed action. if what donut said is true and the oficers did want to go in but were stopped by their chief than the focus shouldnt be on those officers sitting there doing nothing, it should be on the dipshit that ordered them to do nothing. i honestly was hoping that there was a good reason that nothing happened that day and ive been waiting for donuts recap knowing he'll give an unbiased take on the whole thing with info from both sides of the argument aswell as his personal take based off his experiences, but after watching this it truly is sad to see that this whole thing was delayed by the least prepared chief in history. hes a leader he should be ready for this stuff at all times, but nope instead hes fumbling around looking for keys and a radio while kids are being shot and telling his officers to wait....

The problem in the us is that cops aren't responsible for personal safety, they are responsible for public safety. If you are in custody then they are responsible for you since you are held there by the state. Those children weren't in custody so, legally in the usa their deaths can't be accounted to the police. @@KingD-Trix don't agree. The law enforcement can't be full of wannabe heroes just because it fits the situation for once. The higher ranks should know what is the best and should instruct the newer ones, if they screw up, it's on them.
If the officers disobeyed and screwed up (e.g. shot a kid, hurt one of them accidentally) people would still hate on them and they'd be in deep waters for disobeying orders too and well...good faith in what you're doing wouldn't help you either.

I have definitely noticed a lot of issues with the school security itself is a massive role in these attacks. All the issues they stated with the school I've seen at my schools growing up. Like my HS was built intentionally so no one could get phone signal. Many doors were broken to the point we didn't even have to turn the handle to enter classes and several walls were just thin glass. Like we had buzzer systems but it was on large glass doors with wall sized windows next to it. And icing on the cake it was built out of our fairly large town so if we had to run from something like this it was a half mile up a hill to the nearest building for shelter.. very poor how these things are thought out and no one looks into fixing that

The police literally guarded the shooter from parents while he slaughtered their offspring
No, they stopped the parents from running in and getting themselves killed, that doesn't mean the officers did the right thing INSIDE the building, but keeping parents from getting shot is a good move. You're doing the same shit major media outlets do, completely twisting the situation to make it seem like some sort of unforgivable evil. Imagine if a bunch of parents did rush in, multiple get shot, now not only do you have parents who lost children, you also have children who lost parents because their parents decided to rush towards an active shooter. This is simple to me. Do you think you can risk your life for another? “Yes” great be a police officer. “No” great be a security guard.
Not even, Security may have less training but the expectation is the same. Armed or not, DO SOMETHING. If you don't have the ability to take action, don't involve yourself in a public service position.
I was security for Gaylord national hotel for magfest conventions; chief of security was Ethan E'toole. Doesn't matter if my contract didn't state it; I personally made it my mission if need be, save as many people if such an event went down.
Preserve life to the best of my ability by using as much necessary force as the situation requires.
However, we constantly had to remind ourselves "We are not cops".
Regardless, we would do our utmost to make sure everyone came in safe and happy, and left the same way.
Bless you all in any form of public service, health and security. Hope you're all well.
@@codyjr9427 as a public security officer I feel the need to explain that this is a really bad idea to force upon a generalized group of “security guards.”
There are a lot of laws and regulations that go into the training of security officers and each state has different requirements. But most states have security guard programs that specifically state that guard responsibilities lie on the contracts they take.
For example, my contract as a public security officer, states that I am a professional witness. I may not involve myself unless commanded by an officer to assist him, or in self defense of myself.
Bear in mind I did not state “in defense of a third party” because my contract does not allow it. Violating contract makes me liable for anything that happens outside that contract.
Now that doesn’t mean that I haven’t stepped in a broken up a fight with words or simply my presence breaking a fight up. But at the end of the day, I call police. I witness crimes and report them accurately. Sometimes my presence prevents a crime because someone feels that they’ll be caught by me, but when it doesn’t prevent crime, I sure as hell witness it and report it accurately and immediately. I have a police radio to call in crimes as they’re happening. But to get involved is not a common responsibility for security guards. Even armed guards.

Its far more than just the chief. Every single officer there has the death of those kids and teachers on their hands. The officers who handcuffed parents while doing nothing to stop the slaughter going on mere feet away. The officers who stopped and threatened the funeral director (or whatever he was) from going after the POS with his gun after he got shot at before he got to the school. The officers who stopped, handcuffed, and took away the gun of the off duty officer rushing to save his wife after he got a message from her saying she was shot and dying (she was one of the teachers who was killed...I cant imagine the pain and unbridled rage that man is suffering with now).
