  • So the Firmware update is out and I can add my own Impulse responses to the Fender Tone Master Pro, is it still as good? what do they need to add? Also I'm quickly just comparing it against the Quad Cortex which is what I use live nowadays.

    The spacing between the buttons is a bigger selling point than most people would think, especially for gigging musicians. I've been running a Helix floor for a few years, and then ended up buying the Stomp XL. I've run into the same issues as Ola described where you accidentally hit additional buttons with your feet, because of the spacing reduction of buttons on the smaller Helix. Nice vid as always Ola!

  • @SaySomethingWorthHearing
    @SaySomethingWorthHearing Před 9 měsíci +8

    I've owned Axe-Fxs and Kempers since their beginnings and have owned tons of amps over the years including Engl, Mesa, Marshall, Randall, Egnater, VHT and more.
    I currently own a QC and a nice Synergy setup with a variety of modules and a Fryette Power Station as the power section and for use recording.
    I think, at this point, it's safe to say that all of these latest generation modelers/profilers/capturers sound pretty damn good so it really comes down to what your needs/wants are.
    I do mainly writing and producing and I think the QC, with great captures, sounds every bit as good as an excellent amp with perfectly placed mics on a great cab
    With my Axe-Fx and Kempers, I thought they sounded good, but I always felt like there was a few percentage points of "realness" or "aliveness" that just wasn't there.
    With the QC, I don't feel that at all. Through my studio monitors, it sounds like a live tube amp perfectly set up for recording and with the Power Station, it's easy to get that "in the room" air moving through a cab if you like that.
    The HUGE deal breaker for me with the Fender is the fact that you're limited completely by what amps Fender decides to give you.
    With the Quad cortex and others, you can go to third parties like Sinmix and get outstanding profiles for not a lot of money. If you like hard rock or metal, Sinmix makes excellent captures.
    At this price point, Fender has made an excellent LOOKING product, but has really missed the boat on the platform with no profiling and no third party amp abilities.
    At this price point, with no profiling/capturing ability, it would have to come with well over 100 different amp models in ALL genres to even catch my eye.
    For just jamming or song production, NAM is free and sounds every bit as good or better than everything else out there.
    I know I sure wish I had something like the QC years ago when I was playing gigs every weekend and hauling around a 100w VHT head, 4x12 cab and a rack of effects. This is an amazing time to be a guitar player and I hope you young whippersnappers realize how good you have it. I had no CZcams to learn songs back in the day. It was all by ear.
    If you aren't sold on the modeler thing, the Synergy system is outstanding and there are easily enough variety in modules to cover every genre of guitar music.
    In my opinion, the Synergy system is the PERFECT way to get a variety of killer amp tones without breaking the bank. It sounds FAR better than the old Randall and Egnater MTS products. Night and day better in my opinion and when you're gassing for a new amp, instead of spending a few grand, it's only $400 to get a completely different amp. Pretty cool.
    To each their own, but as great as the Fender looks, to spend that much money and be limited by how well Fender supports the product with future amp models is a no deal for me.
    There's just too much out there already that sounds excellent and doesn't have those limitations.
    I'll shut up now and return to obscurity.

    • @adambrook6322
      @adambrook6322 Před 9 měsíci

      I appreciate it. Don't return just yet, how would you rank amp sims against these? I'm trying to decide if I should go modeller because of the ease of use and not needing processing power, or just cut the shit and get a new computer to run the Cali Suite on, because I found some metal tones on there that felt "right" for me and would be willing to make my ride-or-die recording tone. I just want something to noodle on, too. One of my friends who knows a lot more about this shit than I do argued that amp sims (albeit good ones) were better because of superior sampling rates from the computer. I have yet to dip my toes into NAM.

    • @SaySomethingWorthHearing
      @SaySomethingWorthHearing Před 9 měsíci

      @@adambrook6322If I was starting from scratch, I'd start with the NAM. It's a no brainer. It's free and sounds amazing.
      If you find you want some hardware, then you can branch out from there.
      As far as sample rates go etc., forget all the tech talk. Play your guitar through whatever your options are and if you think it sounds great and it inspires you, then it's irrelevant what's going on under the hood.
      I have 3 of the Neural DSP plugins and they sound great. I also have the STL tones plug in and it sounds good, but Neural DSP is in another league in my humble opinion.
      Now that Neural DSP has released their editor beta, it's an even bigger win I think. Having a desktop editor is the only thing I've missed about having the Axefx or Kemper.

    I know it might be hard procuring one - but you should go back and check out the changes to Helix. There are some great additions for metal guitarist. Their addition of the Revv Gen Red and Revv Gen Purple are god tier models. I haven't heard a better high gain amp from a modeler yet. They totally overhauled the built in cabinets with much higher quality models and I'm finding myself using them more then my IR's now. As always, Line6 is known for quality effects and they've added a bunch more to the Helix arsenal. It's really worth a new review. I'm glad Fender is getting into the game - and I've seen some early reviews but haven't had my hands on the Tone Master Pro - but from everything I see, it looks really early stage under the hood, but I love the looks of the package and it seems like something that is road worthy. Good stuff as always Ola - appreciate your unbiased reviews.

    My quest is not to find my comfort that I’m used to before the pre-modeler era. These units give you options that cover all genres/eras, which is left to your imagination, which helps bring through you, ideas you would’ve never tried, because of being outfitted for a particular style of music; but now you have presets aka abracadabra at your fingertips; make it happen!! But that’s my take on it!! 🎸

    I paid a pretty penny for my Boss GT1000 when it came out. In terms of processing power, it is on par with this thing, I believe, but it is incredibly fiddly to use, and the lack of a touch screen hurts it in the marketplace.
    I have gotten some quite satisfactory tones out of it, but it is actually like analog gear in the sense that knob settings really change things up at all points in the signal chain.

      @michaelwalston2438 Před 9 měsíci

      @mikey_dk I guess I should clarify that I do quite like my GT1000--it sort of sounds like I don't. But when I refer to knob settings--the concept of "unity gain", which other modelers do adhere to, is sadly lacking on the GT1000. If your chorus volume (for example) is set too high it can cause a whole chain of unwanted noise.
      But with careful adjustment you can compensate. First, though. you better set your guitar input in the menu, that is absolutely key. And if you like to mess with your guitar volume and tone controls that adds another level of complexity.
      In the end, though, I have really been able to come up with some very sweet sounds.

    Hmmmmm , Im in a heavy rock originals band and really love my Gt1000 , the Xmodded amp and Jc120 are my go to with effects of course and the amps are brilliant recorded and Live . My opinion only .But I was not impressed with the headrush or kemper , and the price ,which is cheaper than most ,you get most of the boss effects ,so I haven't been disappointed with this unit ....

I have 0 experience with any of them but from what i hear im leaning towards qc at the moment. Its for gigs, mostly powermetal. Any advice is always welcome

    Bought the Fractal AX8 awhile ago but just couldn’t get with the amp/cab sounds. Just not the same IMO. I still use it though in 4 cable method for effects and midi switching. Wish there was a product that only did this w/o all the amp/cab modeling!

    Next update for Tone Master Pro: Please include a Ducking Delay as on the Boss DD-200. It's my favorite delay. You can do it. Supersonic 22 amp head is great too. Also the '64 Custom Deluxe Reverb. MTG: LA Tube Distortion. '57 Custom Champ. Champ 25SE. Mesa Boogie Triple Crown Head. Roland Blues Cube Hot and Roland Blues Cube Hot British EL84 Modified. Mesa Boogie Fillmore 50. Boss Nextone Special. Try 10 minutes of two track like RC-500 Looper. Boss OC-5. Boss OD-200 Metal preset.

    As a noob I absolutely love my NUX MG30 as it gives me the option to try amps, effects to my hearts content without having to spend a fortune on gear and probably get divorced for filling the house up with junk. Great to be able to play really distorted riffs at low volume as well. For real musicians though? And also my modeller cost less than £300, not 1500...

    I’m interested in what resources will be dedicated to the Tone Master Pro loving forward. Fender is a big company, but they have their attention split a million different ways with their own guitars, amps, and effects, plus all the subsidiaries and other companies they work with. Neural has less overall resources, but they can dedicate a larger chunk to the Quad Cortex. The sound quality seems fine with both units, but that’s a large investment in a product which is sort of an “out of left field” option for Fender.

      Touch screen fail after updating. and a small percentage of the amps sound like the real thing according to Ola. I predict a wave of returns. Have fun with your newfound convenience and ultimate tube tones and feel (sarcasm). Sounds like the Emperor Wears No Clothes. Robert Baker said the visceral touch response and feel are missing when comparing the Fender amp models with his real 1960's Fender amps. Fender cannot do Fender apparently.

    Short of picking one up just to mess with, I don't know why anyone would choose this over a QC, FX9, etc. They sound just as good (or better), have been out for YEARS now so all the bugs are worked out, and they cost the same. (I love how you pronounce "Cortex" "Cordex", too...🤣)
