    HI Guys, I have just gotten the Tonemaster Pro and have come across the same issue with having effects after the deluxe or the twin. when I had put the effects in front of the amps like I would with a real tube amp the guitar tone did not change when you turned on the effect or off. Think about the Tonemaster Amps series that where released, the same software and program for them is in the Tonemaster Pro. All in all I do love this unit for ease of use and Fenders amp tone. Just like all the other units out there, not every unit suits the same person if that makes sense. You guys have a great day and I love watching your channel on all the gear stuff.

    I heard the difference in tone between the amp sound and the amp sound with an effect. Seems like an easy fix. The proper tone is there for an amp. However a simple boost would seem to fix this 3 Decibel dip. There is room for 30 blocks of effects and amps so there is going to be a lot of interplay. As an example of signal flow, the Boss ME-90 has a flowchart for its hard-wired signal flow: Guitar to Pedal FX to Compressor/FX1 to OD/Dist to Send/Return to Preamp to NS to Foot Volume to Modulation to EQ/FX2 to Delay to Reverb to Amp. Basically 10 blocks apart from the Effects Loop. That's a lot if you use all blocks. I think most of the time you will be running 10 blocks or less. I always manually adjust balance between blocks until I get a balance across all blocks. I am expecting great things from Fender. When I use the Boss ME-90, the Fender amp choice is Twin Combo or Tweed Combo. So if I want a Deluxe, the Pro is gonna give me that and others and I can run two amps at the same time. When you guys ponder that the Pro is a home unit and not a pro unit, that's wrong. The Pro is primarily a stage unit just like the Tone Master amps. You are going to see the Pro on a lot of stages.

    Regarding the tonal change when an effect is engaged/disengaged. Could it be because they modeled the effects a bit too accurately and that this is what the real effects do and how they affect the incoming signal? Is it really an issue when you bypass the effect? I mean, I guess I'm used to effects units having some kind of an effect on the overall tone and work around it accordingly. Yes, it's likely fixable via firmware. As for the amount of amps available, it's early days yet. If a year from now the situation is still the same then it would definitely be a concern. I just ordered one so I remain hopeful.

    I feel like the lack of amps is fine. I mean between the Fender and EVH lines alone you pretty much have all you could really ask for texturally.
    Sidenote: if it could load profiles from other gear like Tonex etc. it’d be an out of the park home run.

    Cool video! Thank you for the insight, in keeping it real. Yes at $1,700 that is overpriced. A tough pill to swallow. I would rather spend the money on a good used Fractal FM9. You clearly get more for bang for your buck. I like the clean sounds of the Fender, but the distortion/gain sounds? It's a mixed bag. The only downside of the Fractal is that it is a bit of learning curve on using it. I have the Headrush MX5 and I love it. I am thinking of upgrading to the Core or the Prime. I do have the POD Go from Line 6. I like that too. On the Fender Tone Master, if it were $1,000, maybe I would consider buying it. Fender makes the cleanest amp sounds. I think I'll stick to my Fender Mustang GTX 100. Thank you for posting this.

    I'm about ease and quickness of use. The problem with skeuomorphic representations is it's often more cumbersome to rotate a knob to a precise value than to linearly move a slider or fader. And more than any other graphical value manipulation, I'd prefer to click on an area to open up a value editor and key in the precise values rather than jogging between values until I reach a precise one. The TMP does a little better than the QC by allowing parameters to be assigned to footswitches, but I would still rather have parameters be assignable to MIDI control changes for fully variable automation and like the QC the TMP is disappointing here.

    I really like the interface on this thing. I think they need to improve finger detection on the screen, and the responsiveness of the UI. I will almost certainly get one of these to replace my Helix over the next couple years some time. I expect the "there's not that much in here" will improve drastically over the next couple years. The nice thing is that it supports IRs, so that can fill some gaps.
    FYI, the Helix often does the same thing with a bypassed pedal changing tone. There are a couple patches where I've removed a long string of 6-7 reverbs and delays that were all disabled/bypassed, but removing them massively changed the EQ of the output. There are definitely some bugs to address there.

    Based on the demos I have heard so far I think the fender cleans are good.
    Most of the more gained up sounds I have heard in other demos have not been to my taste at all. Though the gain tones you had here were good.
    The other issue is that fender does not have a good track record related to updates for digital gear. Hopefully fender sticks with it and improves it quite a bit over the next year or two.
    At this price point it is a definite pass for me.
    Side note it would be nice to show which models/cabs are being used in demos like this. Or if you are using any custom IRs.

    I've had and still have so many of the digital modeling effect boards and have found a small percentage that sounded great into a pa system or any amp effects return and the rest sounded very weird, thin with a hint of unnatural clipping
    The small percent sounded great and seemed like you almost couldn't get a bad sound from them no matter what I did when tweaking them
    It's a very bad sign when you've got to spend a bunch of time digging for a good sound and as you said you were back and forth with this device

    7:07 It’s this way on purpose. They modeled the entire pedal circuit including how it colors the signal with the mix set to 0. This is how the real pedals work. If you want no coloration from the pedal, bypass it.

    • @ToneJunkieTV
      @ToneJunkieTV  Před 10 měsíci +3

      So I thought that too at first but doesn’t happen all the time with the same effects, that’s what we were trying to show. We demonstrated it on two effects, the second isn’t a real pedal it’s just a hall reverb and when the hall reverb is on its own it doesn’t do that. But for some reason when adding the space echo after the amp the last pedal in the chain seems to do it also.
      John Cordy and Leon Todd have demonstrated it too but they did it with a deluxe memory man which I can’t seem to get to behave this way but they did. It’s some kind of glitch when certain effects are together in the chain and it only happens when effects are after the amp not before.

    • @400_billion_suns
      @400_billion_suns Před 10 měsíci

      @@ToneJunkieTV Gotcha. My statement was based on what a Fender rep said on TGP, but yeah, wouldn’t make much sense for it to do that with a hall reverb! Hopefully it’ll get patched soon. I think this unit has a lot of potential, but it needs to do a lot of growing to catch up with its peers.

    • @KYDY
      @KYDY Před 10 měsíci

      @@ToneJunkieTVthe hall reverb bypass behavior could also be explained by impedance interactions being modeled and changed. Hall reverb may basically be acting as a buffer, so when you engage or bypass it the dry tone changes. Sooze actually seems to be aware of this possibility.
      So might not be a bug, just the way they designed it… doesn’t make much sense for digital platforms though, I agree.

      @@jasonmcentire3541 My advice. First decide if you think Fender will commit to this and upgrade regularly. If so, then decide if you can live with what it comes with currently for at least 6 months, maybe a year. If not, and you want the huge selection of stomps, fx and amp models, go for the Helix. But the biggest advice I can give go with the unit and interface that works better for how you work? Is an easier interface, like the Fender, better for you, or do you want to be able to dive deeper and tweak more, like the Helix. On all these to tier units it really comes down to which is better fitted for how you work, and how deep you want to go. I went HX siomp for my small/fly rig because I already had a Midi pedal, and don't need presets as involved as the Helix can do more than the HX stomp. SO save a few bucks.

    No way is the Tonemaster Pro a home unit, the price alone makes it a non starter
    for most players.
    The harsh reality is that as it is apart from the crazy price it has been released far too
    early, and clearly requires a lot of firmware tweaking to cure it's weakspots.
    There plenty of options from other brands that have established themselves with
    regular firmware updates.
    Leaving the price aside, no way would i buy one for at least 12months just to see
    if Fender admits it was released too early and does correct it's issues.
    For now i have enough effects units to keep me satisfied and original amps to prove
    that these effects units only give a taste of how good the real amps are.
