It's white mold, harmless, grows on damp soils and tree debris. Could be because of the tree roots left behind as well. Ya'lls idea on doing the fence right, once, is spot on. Love ya'll ❤️

White mold on the ground is a common surface mold that can indicate poor drainage, too little aeration, or not enough sunlight. It's caused by the fungus Sclerotinia, which overwinters in dead plant material and infects the soil. White mold can survive for several years and establishes itself during periods of cool, wet weather.

Use the t-posts and some cattle fencing, encircle the dog pen so that they can't climb up and through the main panel fencing until it trains them there is no escape, and then you remove that exterior cattle fencing and t-posts after they're trained and you don't end up changing the asthetics of that perm fence you made for them in that 10x20 area. Don't put it right against the main fence - sort of like making a double wall to keep deer out, you are making it to where that if they do make it through the first fence they are stuck and don't like the result. Call it a training barrier. You put a gated area in the same place and so they are also taught that the gate is their salvation - ONLY when you provide it to them.

What you guys have is a type of slime mold and it's very common. I live here in the Appalachian mountains of Tennessee and have seen it all my life. It starts from rotting wood and dampness. You have an early stage of it because sometimes it will turn into hairy looking brown blotches. It's nothing to be worried about since it's really a common good type of mold. You will probably find that you have wonderful soil for starting a garden.

Its actually good for y'all with helping grass grow, I believe it is safe for animals but I would keep an eye out and make sure they aren't eatin too much of it.
