I randomly decided to play this game after a while. I'm pretty much the best person at this game ever. One of my favorite futuristic style racing games. Anyone wanna see if they can beat my times? (These races aren't really even me trying to get a fast time btw) - Hry

LOL. Oh, that’s right. I remember why I love video games now. Because you can break the sound barrier and go 1,000+ mph in a land vehicle, physics be damned.
this game kicked my arse as a kid and it still kicks it now, difficult but great game. gotta love that breaking the sound barrier effect, gives you a sense of speed not found in other racers.
Imagine attending one of these 1250G races in real life... It would just sound like a high caliber rifle range, numerous sound barriers broken every few seconds. You'd definitely need heavy duty ear protection.
Not only that but the bikes will be blurred dots
Xtreme G, F-zero and Wipeout. All extremely polished examples of the genre. All offering something slightly different.
I long for this series to make a return!

+ricochet188 I wholeheartedly agree! This is a game that could be made into a decent series. Either create a new game or remake it. But to make it much better add a story to it, as well as multi-player. I think a storyline for the career mode, maybe something with each character, with good drama would really add so much depth and intrigue. A lot of elements could be incorporated into one- romance with someone from another team, your teammate defecting to another team through choice of your actions on and off the track.. Even strange ones like helping a rival team win a race or possible death of a character, your team or otherwise. XGRA had something going by adding personality to the characters and having a "bounty" thing and that could even be improved. Add that to the story in a remake which could potentially change how other characters react to you. There is a lot that could be done to this game. Adding to that, have customizable options such as color and/or design of your bike and wheels with options for light trails, different outfits for the racers With today's video game tech doing this should be easy. While I don't think it would be a blockbuster (as much as I want it to be) it would still be something a lot of people would pick up.
And as for achievements, they should be made just easy enough so that everyone would be able to acquire all of them. For god sakes, I would not want to see one requiring you to win every race in every class like WipeOut HD had! That was way too ridiculous to achieve.
You've put a lot of thought into this... I just want a game with bikes that break the sound barrier!

My two favorite things in this game is breaking the sound barrier because the music just kinda washes out and pegging the speedometer. I love how it just glitches out because you're going too fast. The sense of speed in this game is great.

@Daniel well, it's not fair to compare the look of a PS2 game with a PS4 one, of course is going to look horrible, but between the PS2 and GC versions, the later is the best version, the graphics are slightly better than the PS2 and controls are more responsive, mostly because of the triggers, but either way the game is amazing. Both versions are worth playing since there isn't too much of difference between them.
@Daniel damn right, the 6th gen was one of the best, so many gems, and yes this kind of games wouldn't do well because companies would ruin them with microtransactions and services, just like Call of Duty, totally agree with you
According to reviews the games are the exact same except you can play 4 player split screen on GameCube. If there is any difference in the frame rate or visuals it's next to no difference at all.

God this was a great game! I remember as a kid testing to how fast you could go doing absolutely nothing other than steer, and the bike hit 31 mph purely on exhaust coming out the back.

i was so good at this game, something about fast racers i can do. i would have the track memorized in my head. this is one of the best fast racers, another that comes to mind is suzuki racing on dreamcast

This one and Siris Canyon are my favorite. And yeah that's basically what made this game stand out to me. Breaking the sound barrier sounds so satisfying in this game.
Atradaitoshi and Megalopolis 7 were my favs. Such an amazing game
One of the best games form my childhood. Me and my buddy would play this and not be able to blink so we would look like we were just sitting there crying looking at the TV. Good time. Best tears ever. Are eyes hurt so bad after each race. We would just wipe them a away and be like more.

One of my favorite games of all time growing up, still disappointed that Nintendo has not tried to revive this yet, it would be a great game for the switch ( as well as ps4 and xbox one ) but i prefer to have it on the go lol

Funny thing is the track playing is Needlejuice by System F(Ferry Corsten) which if you listen carefully you hear 2 different tracks at the beginning and end of the song. Thats because likely Acclaim stole this track from a Trance compilation album called Trance Nation 2001 (5) disc 2 who the DJ mixing is Ferry Corsten.

Wipeout, SSX and XG3 were the reasons i got the ps2
I only ever played Extreme-G 1 but this one also captures that feeling if speed as well. I’ve yet to find another game that feels as fast and responsive as Extreme-G.

Redout 2 is pretty nuts. The level of control they give you plays a big factor. Plus you're constantly sacrificing your shields for more boost.
This was a good game, just I think the weapons could have been incorporated more like the older games

Supereric53 Crazy right? Uuuuh you should keep any upgrades that you buy. And each time you go up in speed class it kind of resets.
I couldn't keep the upgrade, it just went back in the store and gave me my money back when I bought it

Why wouldn't it tho? The music mutes when you break the sound barrier, which is what would actually happen irl since you're travelling faster than sound at that point. The only way you'd be able to hear the music is if you were in an enclosed cockpit with its own air. The effects of breaking the sound barrier would then only be experienced externally.
