That is such a shame that it’s abandoned- hopefully it can be preserved and VDOT won’t make another attempt to tear it down to widen the highway. DHR needs to step in!!

I like the cottage as much as the main house. Hard to believe the buildings were nearly razed for a road.

My Grandfather owned and lived in The Hartwood House until his death in 2005. I was very young when I visited him there and he would tell me to stay away from the pond behind the home because of snapping turtles. After my grandfather's death, my Mother and Aunt paid someone to take care of the home until they figured out what to do with it. He lived in the cottage house. That person had a drinking problem and killed themself in that cottage. My family no longer owns the home but I'll drive by whenever driving through Virginia.
