    The explosion looked like a nebula.

  • @kedrednael
    @kedrednael Před 6 měsíci +21

    The explosion looks so white and splashy because it happens so high up. The rocket is just two big pressure vessels, one filled with liquid oxygen and one with liquid methane. When the rocket crashes on the ground that oxygen and methane is kept close to each other and mixed because it hits the ground-level-pressure air. This enables it to explode in a massive fireball.
    High up (90km), the oxygen and methane can just expand away quickly. They do not mix, the pressure is very low, and the methane does not encounter much oxygen from the air.
    This 'explosion' is absolutely huge by the way, much larger than a ground level fireball explosion. The rocket is 71 meters tall and you cannot even see it, you can only see the gas it is emitting. It may be several kilometers large.
    The 'explosion' dissapears like that because the liquid evaporates.
    It's similar to how the rocket exhaust (from falcon 9, which burns oxygen and kerosine) is an intensly bright, narrow flame at ground level, but when the altitude increases the exhaust expands and the fire dissapears.

And how it let through the hundreds of other rocket launches which are filmed and have put their satellites into orbit, which you can see at night yourself. Really quite weird isn't it.
      If you have a mobile phone you can download an app to access al your sensors. Your phone has an air pressure meter. You can measure how the air pressure drops if you go higher (climb stairs or whatever).
      What's so hard to believe that a powerful rocket explodes.. very high up, thus at low air pressure.

      No one has I think. This is the largest rocket, and it "exploded" at 90km altitude, basically in a vacuum. That's why it's not like a normal fireball explosion. In the vacuum the liquid oxygen and liquid methane (fuel of the rocket) just expand away quickly without mixing, quickly losing pressure.

      You are right! The rocket is filled with very cold pressurized liquid methane- and liquid oxygen. When the rocket 'exploded' it burst open and the contents just expand away from each other quickly. This then evaporates quickly too as it loses pressure.
      If it happened at lower altitude the air pressure stops the contents from going away so far, mixing them and mixing with more oxygen from the air. That enables the powerful fireball explosions we are used to with the other starship crashes.
