- A woman in Memphis has been arrested and charged after she was accused of using her five-year-old child to wax women on social media.
According to the Memphis Police Department, various complaints were filed on Feb. 15 about posts on social media from a woman named Jasmine Moss that showed a young girl at a salon waxing a n woman with a caption that claimed she helped "wax 24 clients" over an eight-hour time span and made $744 that's going towards "whatever her future dreams and aspirations are."
There were three images posted by Moss showing her child applying hot wax to adults. It didn't take long before people on social media saw the post and criticized Moss and her clients for allowing the child to perform the job.

Not only does it appear that she violated the code of ethics for her profession as an esthetician, but I'm sure that she violated the child labor law as well. Most states say that your child can work for your business for any amount of hours, as long as it's not considered hazardous, and this can definitely be perceived as hazardous....and just plain nasty too.

If she wanted to teach her child something, she could’ve let her sit down with her and showed her what the appointment book looks like and why she has it. Could’ve shown her how she types in and keeps track of how much money she made. She could’ve watched her order supplies. There’s no reason that letting that baby wax women’s private area should’ve even been a thought. There’s no way I would’ve let that child near me like that. You don’t see gynecologist children in the exam room to learn anything because that’s not an appropriate place for them to be.

I agree. I would also add in maybe showing her how she sets up for clients ( prepping the room, cleaning, pouring the beads into the wax warmer). I would never expose her to an actual client. Do I think she needs to be jailed? hmm that's debatable, but definitely heavily fined and have to take mandated parenting classes. The clients should of walked out when they discovered a 5 year old/ child was going to put wax on them.
The best thing that mom could teach her child is to not end up like her with that crappy job.

I've seen how many other cultures keep children in children's places, not hearing nasty adult music, doing adult dances, swearing, smoking etc. Childhood comes only once and sets the foundation, it's beyond hurtful to see what's happening to children.

This situation brings to mind a time when I used to have my eyebrows threaded. The woman who did my threading had her young daughter, probably around 3 or 4 years old, present in the shop during my appointments. However, the daughter wasn't really involved in anything; I only caught glimpses of her during the checkout process or when her mom briefly stepped away to check on her in another room.
It seemed like the mom might have been facing some childcare challenges and felt it was better to have her daughter with her than alone in another room. However, in my opinion, this was a poor parenting decision. While it's understandable to involve children in age-appropriate tasks related to a parent's business, such as washing dishes in a catering business or helping prep hair for braiding in a salon, the daughter seemed too young to be engaged in business dealings.
At 5 years old, she should be allowed to simply be a child, rather than being involved in the intricacies of running a business. It's important to strike a balance and ensure that children have the opportunity to enjoy their childhood while also learning responsibility in appropriate ways.
This is abuse, child abuse and child labor that is not lawful by any means.
Very disturbing, and this is why child protective services needed to investigate. Moreso, why didn't the client object to such. How long was and is this going on for someone to report this

The clients are the bigger problem than the Mama cause Mama could be slow as hell but they knew better! Many of these children never deserved the terrible parents they couldn’t choose. At this point, are some women feeling so deprived that they go to these lengths to be touched? I think that’s why some of them get waxed. Not all but some. lol I wax for a living and ppl bring their kids all the time. One of my mom clients has HS and can’t shave or she will get boils so she waxes. Sometimes life happens and she may have to bring her kids. It’s not normal for a child to wax but it’s a lot of moms bringing their kids to beauty services.

My grandma worked in a bar. She would sometimes watch me on days off from school. Never once was I behind a bar, mixing a drink, or taking a drink. I sat at the bar drinking Orangina, eating chips, watching TV, and listened while my grandma shot the shit with the old retired bar hounds.
Also, this was in Milwaukee so there are tons of small neighborhood bars where people just go to hang out, listen to music and play pool. Was it illegal for me to be in there? Probably. Did I see or hear anything I would not have seen at a family party or gathering? No.
