Great and timely video! My windshield went from a small chip to a monster crack on a hot day that I neglected to vent my windows. Reviewed this vid again and followed the “cult” process. Windshield to be replaced in 1 week with a loaner supplied.

I had a similar (good) experience replacing my windshield earlier this year. Mine was covered under warranty, as there was no evidence of a stone chip. And trust me, they checked THOROUGHLY. It was winter (in Canada), and I had just had some work done on the frunk actuator, so the jacking, cold/heat was likely the culprit. But great experience though. Mine was done while I waited (about 4 hrs). Used the uber credits to go grab some breakfast. Clean car when it was returned. No complaints!

FYI for the future; The windshield chip repair kits sold at Walmart, auto parts stores etc? Work wonders IF you catch the chip early before moisture and dirt gets is. The needle shoots in resin and prevents spreading and almost eliminates visibility of the chip. If you don’t trust your skills, call your insurer as most of them waive your deductible to get it done professionally

I can attest to that. I got a rock on my Lotus Evora ( windshield take 6-8 weeks min to get) in the middle of road trip. Grabbed a kit from Walmart applied it in the parking lot. 10 months out and still looking great!

In my Tesla Model S I cracked a windshield... USAA wanted me to use Safelite.. I gave it a week and Safelite never even returned my call. Tesla Service center said that they had the glass in stock and they could get it done the following week and... that ALL glass comes from Tesla. so, I talked to USAA and even though the quote was about $400 more.. (tesla told me that safelite couldn't even get their glass for their cost) USAA approved the Tesla work, and then Tesla actually came in at $200 less than their estimate. I have had nothing but great service from Tesla over my 4 years of ownership

same thing with me. I experienced a windshield crack on my 2020 model y. I had Geico and with my extended warranty with Geico, windshield replacement is only 50 dollars. Extended warranty is only 10 dollars per month, which is a no brainer. Satellite was taking a month to deliver the new windshield as the windshield was brand new at the time. I then got permission for tesla and got it done their for 1350

Glad you were able to get that done at the Service Center... our SC (Portland, OR) will not do glass, they directed me to Safelite, and I am now waiting for a windshield from Tesla to be delivered to them to do the work... super annoying. Tesla gave 20-25 days as a timeframe.

I, too, live in AZ. I had Blue Chip Auto Glass replace my windshield after having Cactus Tint apply a 70% XPel tint. I had to pay out of pocket for the tint. Windshield cracked again a few months later which is totally normal in the desert. Same scenario, but now the insurance company is covering the cost of the tint because it was previously applied.

I'm in Ontario Canada and my app constantly tells me it's over 40 degrees C (104F) do you run the Cabin Overheat Protection? Thanks for your reply. Currently I am running it but it does silly to be running my AC when I'm not in the car. I look forward to your response.

I just got my windshield replaced on a model 3. Mesa Tesla location, $845. They scratched my vinyl. They're covering the replacement vinyl thankfully it was diy and not really expensive. However without the vinyl they would have scratched the paint. Originally Safelite was going to do it but after 10 days they called saying they have to order a new one and would take another 4-6 weeks.

Great video as always. Just had my first windshield issue on my 2020 S. Insurance works with Safelite so I got a quote for a replacement and scheduled with them - $2400 and 4-6 weeks until they can get the glass. Made a service appt via the Tesla app and glass will be replaced in two weeks for $862. Needless to say I cancelled the Safelite appt. Crazy difference in cost - and even though insurance is covering it all I just couldn’t pull the trigger on that quote - even though it was the preferred, and easier route, with my insurance company.

The people handling your claim sounded like idiots. The first one telling you Tesla is like a cult....well first off, depending on the context of your conversation, that's unprofessional and she sounded jealous.
The second comment about not being able to pay out of pocket sounds like she needs to build up her savings. I'm not rich but if I had to I could pay out of pocket.
My 2013 Kia Optima needed a door lock actuator and I could have ordered the part and replaced it myself but since the car was in the shop for something else anyway I just had the mechanic give me a quote and I paid for it.
Owning any car, like owning a house, means you're going to eventually have to pay for stuff when it's either not covered or you don't have a warranty so you better be prepared.
