    When someone has a love for tools and owns alot of different types of it he develops a sense and when looks at a tool in a shop with out even running or have used it before knows if its built good or not almost. Great knowledge of saws there ❤

    You can heat up the crimp and roll it back and split that muffler right open. It's not brazed together like many of the husky mufflers. I've done several of them, no cutting of the can required. You can't even tell they have been opened up afterword. Have a good one Harvey!

      Do all the Dolkita mufflers have that tube that goes into the exhaust port? I was looking for one to put on my 7301 and I've seen some OEM ones on ebay that look like they don't have it, they're all pretty expensive

    • @brennancass3747
      @brennancass3747 Před 4 lety +1

      @@CSkwirl no, that little pipe is the SLR version of the 7910 muffler. Some of them are catted mufflers also. Yes they are pretty pricey, about 90 bucks new.

    • @brettblack7049
      @brettblack7049 Před 4 lety +1

      @@CSkwirl No they don't, the early ones without the extra bracket on the front did not have them. The bummer is the new makitas don't have the bracket and you may confuse them with the old ones.
      The 7301's are great saws BTW, that's going from a guy with a bunch of 7900/7910's bot stock and ported :).
      Edit: I forgot to add that unless your saw is ported you may see a loss in power running long bars with a muffler mod on these saws, even ported the most they need unless its a real wild port job is opened up under the stock deflector and removing the "SLR" from the muffler.

    • @CSkwirl
      @CSkwirl Před 4 lety

      @@brettblack7049 Thanks, what was confusing was that ones looked at on ebay says it fits all 6400 73xx and 79xx etc, some had the extra parts and some didn't. I've had mine a year and not used it that much, I didn't want to mod the muffler without having a spare in case it made it worse, which as you said might be the case. It's stock so far so maybe I'll just open up the hole a bit

    I watched a video in which The Ironhorse seemed to be experimenting with upgrading the top end of a Dolkita 7900. As I recall, Harvey was thinking about the 7900 and couldn't sleep until he compared the Dolkita top end to a bigger jug that he had in the shop. The gist was that he thought, with a bit of machining, that the bigger top end would turn the 7900 into a mega beast! I can't find the update for that video. Does anyone know if Harvey ended up having success with the "bigger" top end?

    They're supposed to be a 79cc saw. The old cat mufflers didn't have the inserts it was just a cat stuck between the two halves of the shell. On my two saws I just ground the crimp off the whole outside. Pulled the cat out, opened up the holes a little bit then stick welded the shell back together.

    Ironhorse, that's a beautiful 7900, looks great through your lens! Of course the Husqvarna is nice! I see you have a Fiskars X27 near the door, is that yours or your son's? I know Erik brought one before to your property. It rubbed off didn't it? I bought one last year in the winter. I like the Fiskars X27 splitting axe over a traditional maul any day of the week! I just keep the maul around because it doubles as a sledgehammer. I still love old hickory over synthetic though. I hope you keep in touch with Mr. Jeremy Bell too, he's another chainsaw prodigy.

    • @fabzacres-blackcat
      @fabzacres-blackcat Před 4 lety

      Richard Sullivan The maul is 33% heavier than the axe ... I like it better ; more force per swing ; the isocore handle delivers less vibration to the hands , and the other end can be used for driving stakes, wedges ... here’s a video of me busting up some red oak 23” rounds with it ... will the axe do the job ? Sure but swing for swing the maul is superior imho ...... czcams.com/video/gyUCKkQ5zDo/video.html

    Hello, very good video!! A few days ago I bought a new PS421 and I want to remove the catalytic converter. I am going to buy another muffler and leave the current one unchanged, because I want to have it as a spare in case there is any problem with the guarantee, to leave the saw as I bought it.
    I have a couple of doubts. My new stock PS421 runs at 11000rpm at top speed, the mix is pretty rich. Is it possible to eliminate the catalyst and have the saw run well without having to regulate richer the high speed screw of the carburetor ? Since a special tool is needed, and the warranty is lost by doing so.
    The other doubt is that in the exploded view manual, there are 2 different mufflers, one with a catalytic converter (serial number 195 174 550) and the other without it (serial number 195 174 500). Are They compatible? Can I buy the one without a catalyst directly, or do I need to buy the one with the catalyst and drill out the welded spots to remove it?
    Thank you very much, I subscribe to your channel.

    • @theironhorse6600

      @@theironhorse6600 Thank you very much! The high speed screw can be modified with a double D screwdriver, right? I say this to buy one in case I need it.
      Can both mufflers be interchanged? I thought not, since in the exploded view manual they have some parts with different serial numbers (joint and connecting link), while in others it is the same.
      Is it possible to make a mix between both mufflers? Leave the current rear half part (the one that goes to the cylinder, serial number 195 174 550), remove the catalytic converter and place the other front half part of the other muffler (195 174 500)? Will the mixture of both fit well? If so, it is much easier!

  • @christiankellermann4934

    Sorry for my english: The SLR pipe increases efficiency. Scavenging losses and burned gas bleeds the SLR back. Because of a higher amount of recirculated exhaust gas the ignition module is totally different. The timing is much earlier because the extra portion of burned gas reduces the speed of the reaction in the combustion chamber. The earlier timing compensates this. If you remove the SLR you will create horrible unused pressure to the piston, rod, bearings etc.. Unused because the pressurepeak is too early. Result is: much more fuel consumption, extreme high poision emissions, very short lifetime of the engine parts, too lean AF at higher speed (or too rich at lower speed, if you play with the carb. But you will never find a good setting. The SLR engine has a different carb). And ok you will get roughly 5% more peak power (by doubling internal pressure), because the SLR is a small restriction. So, it is a bad idea to remove the SLR.

      @@jaydee2620 Hi Jay, I think you have not the equipment to investigate this. Sorry. You need a power breake, a massflow meter for fuel and an exhaust gas analyser for CH, CO, CO2 ,NOx and O2. And a real time pressure indication system to know what you do. And many engines for test series. I was an engineer in the development team of this engine. Belive me you are not right and you are risking health for you and everyone who make the same modification because of the much more poisson exhaust you create. This engine can reach more than 1000 hrs without problems, but please dont make any blind modification. Regards.
