  • Josh O'Connor from The Crown plays the role of Prince Charles excellently - even his Welsh accent is incredible. Here's the full scene of his speech in Wales.

It‘s so sad to see Dr. Millward and his wife in the pub, watching intently, shushing people so they pay attention, and even looking proud of Charles when he pronounces “atmosphere” correctly, and then contrasting it with his actual parents, who are sitting there, not knowing what he’s saying and looking uncomfortable that he’s saying anything at all.
And then afterwards Millward tells him that he did good while his mother just tells him he fucked up.

Tech also what could do a color analysis of Mrs. Millward compared with the Queen and Princess Anne. Earlier we see mrs. Bill Ward wearing a lot of pink outfits: The cardigans she wears with the shirt dress with a few pink bits when professor Bill word tells her of his assignment to teach Welsh to Prince Charles, the house dress with the gold and white and pink patterns with the pig pubs that she wears with Prince Charles comes over for dinner, and the pink and white nightie she wears to bed when she discusses with Professor Millward what she's observed about Charles watching their family. I like to compare and contrast that to The Pink suit that the Queen wears when she discusses Charles and her assignment that she was sent out in the hopes that she would forget about Phillip.
And Mrs. Millward is wearing a yellow and blue dress which could be compared to a man who's wearing a blue suit with matching hat and earlier when Charles calls Anne on the phone and she's wearing blue jeans (!) and a blue sweater and later when she's in disguise watching Prince Charles perform.

Not to mention it's his Great Uncle (Mountbatten) who comes to get him ready and wish him luck, not his father. That says a lot. But the ending remarks from the Queen about noone wanting to hear his voice, were really the worst. Simply mean.

Because he did, while as just a man he can have his opinions, as future king he can't show he is more favorable to one region of the Common Wealth than others. His future role demands from him that he must be impartial and not give away personal opinions or thoughts, the Queen knows this and has lived with this frustrations, she may have been harsh but it gave him a dose of reality.

Now, Moondust was boring because it was slow. It was turning to show the mundane side of life. I think after watching the episode and deeper introspection. It is a great character study for a man like Prince Philip. It also reinforces the lesson given to him by Princess Alice at the end of that episode. I love how he has the same tendencies to slurr together a string of words while not using his mouth much at all like how tobias menzies does it in his portrayal of Philip. I don't know if that's just a british accent thing I'm not privy to or if it's more of a personal touch of both actors but it's very fun seeing the similarities. And there is some (probably unintended) symbolism in the fact that both the welsh speaking bit and the theater excercises (2 things Philip is portrayed as looking down upon to a certain degree) make Charles to the complete opposite by opening his mouth all the way while speaking.

Poor Charles, seriously. He was a sensible soul with so much to say, to feel and to Shine.
Crushed by a father with a foolish ideal of manliness, and a characterless mother who thought that actually having a soul was something to despise.
He was a talented artistical Young lad with a brightful mind to show to the World.
Never à touch, never à feeling toward him, never anything from his family.
In this episode the part that most killed me was when he seemed so happy telling the teacher his favorite tongue-twisters and then that idiotic sececionist scandalized himself for it. How horrible it is when you have no one to listen to what you like or do, or learn. It shatters you. That sole moment was à catarsis for him. A moment Where His True self was speaking. But the World around him does not care. Nor did His mother.
The crown should have learned to use the personality of royals as an asset, instead they see it as a burden. Well, they might find in the future that no one wants a characterless wall as a head of state.
