      It is all possible due to Redstone being one of the most powerful features in any video game due to it being entirely Turing complete the only limitation is how slow it is so you can create a general-purpose CPU to run any type of program you want on them but they will be even slower than designing a circuit just for one task like this.

    This is truly amazing and terrifying. When i saw the title I thought there will be a lot of command blocks, entity tricks and all that stuff. But to be able to do the whole tetris with just redstone components is on a whole another level. I think there was someone who made calculator in Minecraft with only redstone, but if you think about it, that's just some binary math and conversions. So I think what you did indeed deserves a lot. Looking at your ingenious design, the calculator was nothing compared to this. Calculator just used some well known patterns and in your design there’s this “trick” factor where you’ve got to come up with something by yourself.
    This is actually truly amazing and before watching this video I’d never believe that such complicated circuit could fit into relatively small space.

    even though you may call this 'not complicated', your skill is at least in being able to hold all of this in your head at once and then execute the act of building it, testing it, and fixing mistakes. but also most people are only familiar with small-scale redstone where they never have to work with the concept of sending streams of data around a circuit, which is a very different skill from understanding grand-scale mechanics which much more closely resemble real computing. this distinction is something even you are familiar with, i'm sure, with how you say you don't understand that 7-segment display. i'm much better at the small-scale stuff precisely because it's so fast to build and operates like a minecraft-exclusive puzzle

  • @InTheBeginningTheUniverseWas

    Very very cool. And it's pretty damn fast considering how much is going on here.
    Shame that it can't do rotations as it's falling- which is a LOT harder, I know. I realised a clever way to do it, and haven't got around to building it yet. The idea is instead of having one shifting grid where the piece falls (the red part, as you called it), you'd have four; one for each rotation state. Much more complicated but totally worth it for "real" Tetris.

    I have a few questions and suggestions for the line clearing which might make it less complicated and more consistent.
    I don't know if this logic is possible, or if you have enough space in that Minecraft build, but from a programming logic perspective:
    1) Moving everything down:
    1.1) detect on how many rows was made
    1.2) detect if there are any pixels above the row for each colomn in the row.
    1.3) If there is no pixel above, then skip the move logic for that colomn. (This would boost efficiency)
    1.4) If there is a pixel above the "row-pixel", save/note how many gaps was below the last row closest to the bottom.
    1.5) Clear the row(s).
    1.6) Move down all pixels in each column above the cleared row, closest to the top, by (Gap-pixels + Row-pixels)
    Almost like this below:
    1 = active
    0 = inactive
    0000000000

What if you make something like a conductor for every row, and when the field block is switched on, the corresponding section of the conductor is switched on? So when all blocks of the row are light and all sections of the conductor are on accordingly, there's a signal that row's filled. Then you don't have to check all rows every second. You just start cleaning process when you recieved the signal.

    We really need to give redstone creators like these a powerful computer and a redstone signal booster to render the whole computer faster.

    However, maybe get a little better at actually _playing_ tetris

    With the new /tick command, it can run at higher speeds! I found /tick rate 200 to make it run at tetris level 9 from the gameboy.

    I believe in the original tetris the shapes are picked randomly from a "bag", then once emptied it's refilled (this stops the same shape appearing 3 times in a row). I'm wondering if this could be achieved with shulkers, hoppers and droppers? Great video BTW!
