    Its called a talkbox. Its a tube that runs from your mouth into the guitar and uses your breath to distort the guitar tone. Check out Peter Frampton-Do you feel like we do. He showcases some awesome talkbox techniques. Much love Biss

    • @jeffc8965
      @jeffc8965 Před rokem +27

      The talkbox actually works by projecting the sound of the guitar into your mouth. You then 'shape' the sound with your mouth just as you do when you sing or speak. The sound (from your mouth) is then picked up by the microphone. Here's a good recent video of Frampton's 'Do You Feel Like We Do': czcams.com/video/jl4u6KQjODg/video.html

    • @stevenbeall9637
      @stevenbeall9637 Před rokem +14

      Sort of. Technically, It actually takes the output from your amp (already distorted typically), passes that signal to the talk box and splits the output to both the amp's speaker enclosure, as well as a tube that goes into the players mouth, where it fills the mouth with the guitar/amp sound, that is manipulated and heard through the microphone when the person opens their mouth and makes speaking mouth shapes near it, but instead of the lungs and vocal chords making the sound, it's the pressure and tone coming out of the tube.

    Motley Crue at their creative and career peak in 1989... their 5th album 'Dr. Feelgood' hit #1 on the US charts... This music video was filmed in L.A. when Motley played the Whiskey-a-go-go Club, one of the early venues where they had started their career in 1981 as a local rock band. The Doors used to play there in the 60's... Metallica played there too as a local band in 1982.
    The song lyrics were inspired by a near-fatal incident in 1987 (?) when Motley bassist Nikki Sixx OD'd on heroin and was pronounced dead on the scene... but paramedics gave him an adrenalin shot to his heart and revived him. According to Sixx, he checked out of the hospital and went home... and shot up again 🙄 And he woke up the next morning w/ the needle still in his arm... Motley managers finally intervened and forced Sixx and the band to rehab to clean up their act... It worked for a while, as 'Dr. Feelgood' was the first album the band recorded sober.
    Guitarist Mick Mars used a talk box distortion effect w/ his guitar to make that sound... Richie Sambora, guitarist of Bon Jovi, did the same on the song "Livin' on a prayer"... Kirk Hammett (Metallica) also used it on the Metallica song 'The house Jack built'... It was also used by artists like Peter Frampton and Joe Walsh ... etc. in the 70's.

    • @Diesal3
      @Diesal3 Před rokem +1

      There is a bit more to that story, from what I remember, about Nikki's brush with death. When he OD'd and was in the ambulance, his heart stopped like you said and they gave him the shot of adrenaline but it didn't work. His heart beat did not come back. One of the paramedics was a huge Motley Crue fan and told his partner that was there with him, "This is Nikki F'n Sixx and I'll be damned if he is going to die on my watch!" So he grabbed second shot of adrenaline and jabbed it into his heart and that's what "Kickstarted his Heart". At least that's what I read about it years ago.

    • @sumonjamal1653
      @sumonjamal1653 Před rokem

      @@Diesal3 That's just a story. It hasn't been verified. That was how it was depicted in the movie 'The Dirt'... But a lot of that was fabricated on purpose for a laugh 😂

    Mick Mars is using a “talk box” for his guitar. Simply put, he has a tube going in his mouth and the guitar tone can be changed by how he moves his mouth. You can hear at the end when Mick even says, through his guitar, KICKSTART NY HEART

    This is a hair metal anthem. Motley Crue is California rock from the same general era as Guns 'n Roses. On the more metal side, you've got Metallica, Megadeth, and Tool.
    The talk box pipes guitar sounds into the mouth, which are then shaped by the mouth and picked up by the singer's microphone. First notably used by Joe Walsh ("Rocky Mountain Way" 1973) and then maybe most famously by Peter Frampton on his live album ("Do You Feel Like We Do" 1976). Also, "Sweet Emotion" by Aerosmith in 1975, and dozens of other songs.

    @ClaytonMacleod Před rokem

    It is not a voice modifier. It isn’t a pedal. The device is called a “talk box” and is actually very simple. The talk box is basically a guitar speaker in a box that connects to the guitar amplifier just like a regular speaker would. Only instead of the speaker playing into the air as usual it is inside a completely contained box. This box has a tube connected to it, and the guitar sound only plays through that tube while you’ve switched over to the talk box. As you play your guitar the sound goes through the tube, and you run that tube up a mic stand so it ends beside the microphone. You place the end of the tube in your mouth and it allows you to shape the sound of the guitar with your mouth in the same way that you usually shape the sound of your voice. Bon Jovi has a song called Livin’ On A Prayer that uses the same effect very prominently as part of the main riff. Aerosmith has a song called Sweet Emotion that uses it during the intro. It is an effect that has been around for quite a while but isn’t used very often.

    It's called a Golden Throat. It sends the sound of the guitar through the tube that is taped to the Mic. The guitar sound resonates in his mouth and is picked up by the microphone. That's why it makes that weird sound. He can even form words while playing. Very cool.

    The solo was played with a voice box Bisscute. You move your mouth and the sound goes into a tube and is added to the sound of the guitar. They've been in use since the 1970's, with the most notable classic being Peter Frampton's "Do You Feel Like I Do," but aren't used much as the sound can lose it's unique novelty if used often. It was a good choice for this song and you can even hear Mick Mars saying kick start my heart through the guitar at the end of the song.

    Ah the Crüe, an ex of mine loved them so much. In this genre you still need to do a few classics like Skid Row: 'I Remember You' or 'Youth Gone Wild' or '18 and Life' (I think you might like Skid Row, or maybe just the singer haha)
    Warrant: 'I Saw Red' or 'Uncle Tom’s Cabin' -
    Poison: 'Every Rose Has Its Thorn' or 'Something To Believe In' -
    Whitesnake: 'Is This Love' or 'Here I Go Again'
    There are quite a few more bands but I'll leave it there for now as these were really popular.
    Edit: the proper dancing style is like an 80s stripper, not joking, but if you watch an 80s workout tape you'll get the gist of it too.

    I have spent many nights at The Whiskey (A Go Go), the bar/venue they shot this in. Legendary venue that Motley Crue sparked their popularity in. One of my favorite live performances of theirs was the Sunset Music Festival back in 2011. It's a music festival that blocks off a few blocks on Sunset Blvd right in front of some of the most iconic music venues from the 80s & 90s. The Viper Room, The Roxy, The Whiskey, The Key Club (gone now) and then The Rainbow Bar (not a music venue, although there is a small stage in the closed off upstairs bar and countless musicians from this era hang there). They came on right after Bush played - another of my favorite bands. Sun was setting and they came out on fire. Absolutely rocked the strip! I remember Tommy gave a pretty cool speech right before they played Home Sweet Home, mentioning their memories of the iconic strip and talking about their first apartment together that was just up the road from where the stage was (down the street from The Whiskey). Pretty incredible show! One thing about Motley Crue though, they put on one h*** of a performance! Never been to a bad one, although Vince doesn't have the vocals he used to have. Btw, this song was about Nikki's heroine overdose. He was pronounced dead until the paramedeic brought him back to life with adrenaline. It is definitely a great song with an upbeat riff, even if the inspiration for it was from a grim moment in their history.
    Anyway, glad you enjoyed it! :)

    And here's a quote from the attending paramedic in the film adaptation "the dirt": *"nah this ni--@ Nikki sixx man, he not about to die in my ambulance!"*

    It's called a "Talkbox" .. it is a horn driver (basically a big magnet) connected to one of the amplifier output channels. Where the cone attaches to the drive a plastic tube is attached instead. The air pressure and sound waves generated from the driver travel up through the tube to the musicians mouth. It produces sounds that can then be manipulated with their mouth, kind of shaped by their mouth. Not many people use them anymore, they were kind of a novelty during the 70's and 80's but some people did some pretty cool things with them. I have used one myself and it is kind of a strange feeling in your mouth as the air and sound vibrations reverberate around in your mouth. Talkbox's are actually pretty cool, too bad nobody really uses them anymore.

    That's a fantastic song. Did you know the guy driving the bands limo in this video was a well known stand up comedian named Sam Kinison.
    He performed stand-up routines that were characterized by intense sudden tirades, punctuated with his distinctive scream. What's even stranger is that Sam was a former pentecostal preacher. Unfortunately he died in a car accident in 1992

    Thumbs up. I have heard of the band, I have never seen the video or heard the song.
    That was comedian Sam Kinison driving the car. He was a former minister who became a comedian. (He was hit by a car as a young man - his head hit the A-frame - and his family said he was never the same after that) He hung around with rock stars.
    He was killed in a car accident, someone ran right into the side of his car. As he was a former minister his car registration was ‘EX-REV’. Outrageous wild man in comedy. I have read about Sam Kinison. There are documentarys.
    I find it funny when bands put ümlauts in their band name. It does make them deep, edgy and charismatic. /smiles/
    There is someone with the surname ‘Bach’ in one of those bands.
    Well done Biss, you are reacting to hairspray rock or whatever the name is.

    It's called a talk box invented and used originally by Roger Troutman of the 70's /80's funk band Zapp.
    Check out the tune More Bounce to the Ounce for a full on demonstration.
    But be forewarned !
    You will have no option but to dance if you listen to it.
    #zappchallenge
    He also used the talk box in 2Pac and Dr. Dre's California Love.

    Hello Bisscute , Mick Mars uses a vocoder, you can also find that on a title like Livin' On A Prayer by Bon Jovi or the better known Peter Frampton - Show Me The Way .. Have a good evening

    I’m a lifelong big hair band fanatic! My favorite Crue song is Wildside! The song is about Nikki’s drug dealer who gave him a hot shot one night and put him a dumpster. Luckily someone found him and after two adrenaline shots he came back.

    That's a talk-box. Typically a foot pedal device that is connected to the amp, with an an airtight plastic tube connected to the device that runs up the length of the microphone stand and extends into the guitar players mouth. When switched on, the signal from the external amp is split into the foot pedal device where an internal driver reproduces the sound and blows that guitar sound up through the tube and into the players mouth. The player can choose to just move their mouth in different shapes to make various distorted sounds or vocalize words to mix with the guitar sound to make sound as if the guitar is speaking. Think in basic terms as if you stand in front of a fan and talk directly into it. The air gets pushed into your mouth and your own generated vocal air collide, making very distorted sounds, except this is musical noise (guitar) instead of just straight air. Popular examples are Peter Frampton- Do You Feel Like We Do, Eagles- Those Shoes, Aerosmith- Sweet Emotion, Alice In Chains- Man In The Box, Bon Jovi- Livin' On A Prayer, Scorpions- The Zoo, and Joe Walsh- Rocky Mountain Way. Been around since the early 70s and has been featured in a ton of songs from virtually every genre. Has been known to loosen and in some rare instances even knock out a players tooth caused by the vibration.

  • @javiergabrielcajasherrera5320

    GTR's solo is done with the vocoder effect pedal with distortion! it modulates the voice with the notes you play on the guitar, that's why you gesture the notes with your mouth to give a more robotic sense to the sound.
    entertaining reaction! i recommend you to refer to the song "I'ts not love" by Dokken. from the same era of "Hard Rock Glam".
    thank you greetings from argentina!

    Talkbox channels the sound from a speaker through a tube that you hold in your mouth and use to shape the sound going into your microphone.
