  • I recently found out the hard way when one of my SanDisk Extreme Pro SDHC cards failed in my DSLR while filming. It turned out that it was a eBay FAKE!! Just because I was caught out doesn't mean you need to.

    As the two cards are placed either side at the front. The a on the large Sandisk logo is a different font on the fake.

    It's funny you mention the yellow tab on the fake ones. I have 4 64GB cards. Two of them yellow & two of them grey tab. I've been using these "fake" cards regularly for years with my prosumer video equipment and never had a problem with write speeds. I do have 128GB cards on order from Amazon so I'll check them out once they arrive. Thanks for the helpful tips.

    The number 10 on the far left card also stood out to me as not appearing typical font, it was much too thin compared to Sandisk.

    Thanks for sharing this. I received a counterfeit one with the yellow lock tab - lots of issues trying to record video on a Sony camera and very slow buffer. I got it from an Amazon seller, luckily I can return it.

    I got a fake 125GB extreme pro card, but they both read true 125GB? If I just used them as overflow cards & just kept a real 32GB in my slot one would that change quality or buffer results ?

    if you have a good look at the both SDs, the fake one used different 'font face': 32Mb, 95Mb, U3, C10 and even the word: 'SanDisk'

  • @davidyoul6262
    @davidyoul6262 Před 8 lety +17

    Two more ways that you can tell the fake:
    1) Look at the "S" at the start of the word "SanDisk" (in the video at 4:02). On the fake version the "S" is a different font/style to the authentic version - it has two little 'spikes' on each 'tail' of the 'S' shape. The fake card "S" looks different to the official SanDisk logo "S" (the official logo "S" has "smooth ends").
    2) All these memory cards come with a "RescuePro" software serial number. Download the "RescuePRO" software, and try to use the serial number to get an "activation code" for the software. If the RescuePRO serial number is a fake, the Rescue PRO website will give an error message. This will mean that the memory cards are fakes also.
    Further to this, I bought TWO of these fake cards off eBay at the same time and both packets had the SAME RescuePRO serial number inside. This is impossible for an authentic card, because the RescuePRO serials are meant to be "unique". Of course, when I tried the serial numbers on the RescuePRO activation procedure, it gave me an error message about the serial number.
    Lastly, my fake memory cards were selling for HALF the price of the authentic memory cards... I should have suspected!

      Not to mention the even more glaringly obvious difference in the 32GB font between the two. The fake one being very rounded on the 3 while the genuine one is very angular at the top of the 3. I noticed that before really noticing the SanDisk font at the bottom. Great tip on using the Rescue Pro serial to see if it activates though. Thanks.

    Does using a crappy sd card can lead to "freezing" or "busy...please wait" issues. My canon 750D suddenly won't take photos anymore bc every time I take a shot it will stuck in BUSY and I can't stop it unless removing the batt to reset. ☹️ but it sometimes works but then suddenly back to the issue 😩😭 HELP PLEASE im so broke to have it fixed to somebody else. Video works perfectly btw. Dunno why 😞 v1.0.0 firmware

    Allegedly over 50% of Sandisk Cards on the market at any one time are FAKE, in fact it is more likely you will receive a fake than a real card, that is why you have to buy from a reputable source and then test.. even then not guaranteed - at one time certain reputable sellers were inadvertently selling fake cards.

    Wish I knew about this before shooting loads thinking it’s there abs nothing
    Anyway, you might want to make a note of this discovery!
    I broke open the ad card in frustration and what I found is a mini SD seated in it.
    It was supposed to be a 128gb, but actually it was a 2gb mini SD. Therefore I was fooled into thinking it was working when I viewed the first bit of footage, but nothing else recorded after that

    There is a easy way to tell if it's fake go to ctmagazin.de and download h2testw !! It writes to the card and will give you the speed and also how big the card is !! Most fakes are only 8GB cards and MUCH slower than claimed !!

    • @ericnoack1324
      @ericnoack1324 Před 7 lety

      done this and i thought i bought a fake SDX UHS-1 card but then saw another video where it showed the speed of the inbuilt card reader could be the problem mine is a Kingway so i have now purchased a card reader that connects via USB3 as this showed a substantial difference in the results for instance 18 to 19 mb/s versus 72 mb/s same card different reader.

    • @seniorfrog7391
      @seniorfrog7391 Před 7 lety

      Joshua Tree that is a connection speed limit of the card reader !! You are comparing USB2 to USB3 speed there NOT the card !! But that would NOT affect the size of the card !! So you are comparing apples to oranges !! The problem on the fake ones id the size !! The fakes reading 64GB and only being a 8GB !!

    • @ericnoack1324
      @ericnoack1324 Před 7 lety +1

      sure i understand that and my point is if the card does not get close to the 95mbs claimed using a Kingston usb3 card reader than you have got a fake card .I tried my Sandisk on a front panel reader and a usb2 and then the Kingston usb3.
      The Kingston was the only one that could come close to the claimed 95mbs because there were no bottle necks.
      If the card had read at a low speed with this reader I would have questioned whether i had a fake or not and to be honest i got in touch with the seller and asked was his cards fake and that I was going to run these tests.
      he assured me they were not fake and was happy to have me test them. I have never purchased a fake card, even on Ebay.

    That's the main reason why I avoid ebay.On amazon most sellers and products are verified, refunds can be made, and items investigated by the company. On ebay anyone can sell anything, real or fake.I would contact trading standards over this seller, they're obviously making a lot of money and ripping off other people. Who knows what the police may find, perhaps more criminal activity. Justice is always nice to serve.

    • @CTimmerman
      @CTimmerman Před 6 lety

      The CE Marking Association has held the view for a long time that the China Export mark is not valid mark and it is actually just the European CE mark that does not respect the dimensions and proportions given within the Directives. Our view is also supported by the European Parliament, who were asked to respond to questions related to the ‘China Export’ mark. In summary they believe there is a misconception about the CE mark meaning ‘Chinese export’ and they go onto say that the Commission is not aware of the existence of a ‘China export mark’.
