In this video, I demonstrate the proper method of draining, flushing, filling and bleeding a motorcycle disc brake master cylinder and caliper. It's basically the same for all makes, models and brands. Bad ass easy!

Im using dot 7 fluid which is a blend of dot 3 plus leftovers of dot 4mixed together in a cocktail shaker
Thanks man,
Did this with my friend on his motorcycle.
He has taken it for a Test ride, It's been quite a while now.
Are we gonna talk about the tweezers or what?
im crying. this channel is gold.
Where can I get the special brake fluid wrench? The guy at the bike shop had no idea. I think he just started.
Nickel Town Customs ;)
If your brake fluid is ever so dirty that it is black, do not flush that dirty fluid through your brake caliper. All the dirt and sediment in the brake fluid could seize up the piston inside of the caliper. Remove the brake line from the back of the caliper, typically it is held on by a banjo bolt. flush all of the old brake fluid through the detached line. Then reattach the brake line back to the caliper. Fill the system with new brake fluid, then bleed the system out through the calipers.
Another rider saved from certain death by you. Well done
brakes save lives !
samokin, tutorial. I've only screwed up for 48 years (about 10 yrs old is when 2 wheels became more important than everything else,)listening to or subscribing to the high priced factory sales men and women (bless those girls heart area, on the outside,) when I put my life on the line. And finally when this far, I've made it, one, (you) come out with what is above certified safety instructions and factory protocols, engineering developments. I couldn't imagine if you couldn't of been around then, as for kids today, they have the choice to click on to learn, or buy the BS sold by wannabees.Good job ichiban.
Good stuff! I'll be doing this on my bike this weekend. Thanks!
I came up with a bad ass way to do away with the need to ever have to bleed brakes again. I took the cable brakes from my old push bike and put them on my Fireblade. This did away with the need for disks, pistons and brake housings, brake pads and fluid etc. Unfortunately I did not get a chance to test them myself as my friend borrowed the bike and killed himself on it before I could. I don't honestly think he was ready for such a fast machine.
2:23 I think thats not 3.4 ( three point four) dot.. its means it can use 3, and 4 dot
Whooosh
DOT 3 point 4 LOL
A mechanic noticed his co-worker drinking brake fluid at lunch.
"What are you doing, man? You can't drink that stuff!"
"Relax," replied his co-worker, "this stuff tastes pretty good, and I don't drink it all the time."
"Seriously," the mechanic exclaimed, "that brake fluid is poison!"
"Hey, man" yelled the co-worker, "back off! I can stop any time I want."
Yep, that was lame.
it's all with the timing :D
I didn't have any syringes for the last part as I gave that up. So I just sucked on the end of the hose and found that worked well. The mild blindness cleared up quickly but the headache lasted for days. It did teach me that I'm going to have to space brake bleeds from now on.
Just have a root through the bins outside the needle exchange
Behind the local High School and next to the trash of the 15-minute stay motel are good sources too. Thanks.
Question, what if the handle doesn't get firm?
I've been pumping the handle for 30 minutes now...and she's softer than Hugh Hefner on a Viagara free day.
Your Vids are BADASS!! I find them invaluable.... keep up the good work. thx : )
thanks for watching Mark !
is tha DOT 3.4 brake fluid or DOT 3 and 4 brake fluid ? never herd of 3.4 my motorcycle takes dot 3 only and i bough some that said 3&4 so idk if i messed it up or what cus it wont let me bleed it rite
Great video thanks!!
good job dude thank you
A tip to you guys changing break/clutch fluid and dont want to bleed it.
If you get a bigger syringe (often found on farms due they use it to inject medicine on cows/horses) you can add the fluid in the syringe and open the bleed valve and press it from bottom to the reservoir. Then close it while pushing in fluid when you see it retching the reservoir. With this Technic you dont need to bleed it, Because the air is traveled up :)
I do like this on the clutch and brakes on my KTM and it works perfect every time :)
Mecke-Productions yes thank you I just couldn't get air bubbles out of my clutch and woulnt disengage completely this has saved me 200 bucks for a tuneup
Can i just put a cable through the hose instead of brake fluid?
sounds like a nice upgrade !
Ichiban Moto
Genius idea!
hahaha
Another awesome video. I gotta get me some more DOT 3.4 fluid before the phase it out for 3.5. Also, the Taco Bell hot sauce packet that makes an appearance in a ton of your videos is always a funny sight.
why can't they just pick one and stick with it> ?
Where I live they're already onto 3.5.2
the same green sauce packet is still sitting here . It's leaking a bit tho
Fantastic Video! To save on the wallet, I filled the brake system with sterilized water and mixed it in with WD-40, just to error on the side of caution and prevent rusting out the brake lines!
Thanks for the walkthough on the subject, I really appreciate you putting the video together. This cleared up a lot of what I was doing wrong while getting the oil pressure back to normal.
One thing I'd like to ask about is cleaning out the brake line. I noticed on my bike that fresh oil turns brown after a few pumps. I can clean out the cylinder and the callipers no problem. How would you suggest clearing out the brake lines in case there's some brown sludge in there? Use the special brake cleaner fluid you mentioned or just get enough fresh brake fluid through the line?
That's an awesome Metric wrench you got there. I would however improve the handle on it with certified handle duct tape for a better grip.
top tip!
where I can get the bleed tweezer?
Another awesome bad ass video my friend!
hey it's the MidwestMotoRider ! check out his channel !
Love to always see that green Taco Bell packet lurking nearby.
Thank you
so, yeah... my rear brake isn't releasing air when bleeded; it does the exact OPPOSITE. my mechanic did a great job bleeding it by reverse pump but Idk how to do that. what would be the probable best solution and reason why my problem occurs?
Badass !
Good job you have the testing kit.
bad ass clip!!! :)
We only get metric brake fluids here so not sure if i should bleed them from the other end?
Only if you're in Australia.
Just tip the bike upside down. You can still gravity bleed then...
right on buddy.. interesting my father was at ground zero hiroshima just weeks after. US army. I just seen the world record holdind speed record SR 71 black bird. 1971 and it had ichiban on the tail ? thank you for your reply. and keep them BAD ASS videos coming. great stuff.
I just did the brake fluid test you described and it went blue, please help!
Also, I used dot 6 brake fluid instead of engine oil in my motor, will this be ok?
I think the blue means your pregnant!
congratulations +risc19 !
I use diesel to flush everything, good for getting a nice sheen on tires too.
+1 on the tire shine :D
I cant find any dot 3.4 brake fluid here. Can i use 3 parts of distilled water and 4 parts of cooking oil instead ?
follow the chart on the bottle. I think you need peanut oil. but not certain
I did this in my clutch but now there is air bubbles help it's really hard to disengage
I live in the dekalb IL area I have a 99 honda vt750cd Ace deluxe. If you ever wish to use it for a video let me know. It can use some work for sure.
I just disassembled my disc brake and flushed the , brakes lines, master cylinder and brakes calipers with Diesel and there's a lot of dirt inside. Then I assembled everything back and added a new DOT 4 brake fluid and bleeded the brakes and my brakes are working like new.
I removed all fluid first to rebuild caliper. Did not touch master cylinder. But i dried it out. Now it wont pump and generate pressure. Any ideas?
give the master a good cleaning and inspection
The jump cuts are real 😂😂
no fooking around here !
Wow..3.4 dot fluid..maybe dot 3 or 4!!..and a test kit to say how bad the fluid is,visual is good enough.
Is it true you shouldnt use old brake fluid? I saw somewhere 3 days after being opened you should throw out your left over fluid. And you should also try not to shake the bottle to avoid bubbles?
You can still use it after 3 days but some people don't recommend it cause brake fluid absorbs water so you'll be reduced braking power i've never had a problem but yeah.
also no you probably don't want to shake the bottle because it will take longer to bleed all the air out once you fill the system.
If it's glycol-ether based brake fluid, you can preserve it in the freezer. That will buy you a few days after opening
You can use brake fluid thats been open for years if you pour it into a dry kettle and make a brew. Pour it over a tetleys t bag and all the water will be absorbed by the tea. This works as good as a regular cup of tea but you need an extra 2 spoons of sugar to take the twang out of it.....
MR ichiban BAD ASS as always, I got a question your name ? was it inspired by SR 71 TAIL # 17958 ? and where can I get that fluid test kit, I thought it was all black and grungy so you could check the fluid level, in that little window?
I was born in Japan, my parents were there as part of the allied occupation/ rebuilding forces. Back then there were of course no disposable diapers ( nappies) and the cloth diaper delivery service was called Ichiban Laundry. So when I had a load in my shorts, my dad would yell Ichiban ! - the signal for the nanny to come and get me. The nickname stuck.
I need that tweezer...!
Sweet fluid testing kit, got to get me one of them. Was it from Nickel Town Customs?
oh yes, of course !
Suzuki GN 400?
do you own a wrench?
What does it mean if your fluid turns blue in the test?
Means you are pregnant!
+Andrew Wilson Badass! I hope its a baby CB750.
How do I get some of those bad-ass Ichiban Moto stickers?
A few comments on this video. First, if the fluid is that dirty, get a turkey baster or some type of vacuum bleeder and suck out the old fluid from the reservoir first. Don't push that dirty fluid through the system. Second, make sure to get a fresh bottle of DOT 4 brake fluid for your motorcycle. There is no such thing as "DOT 3.4". I have no idea what the presenter was thinking. Third, use the proper size closed-end wrench to loosen/tighten the bleeder valve. Do NOT use tweezers or pliers! Finally, flush enough brake fluid through the system so that it's completely clean. Do not skimp out on fluid. Then every two years thereafter, do this again for good brake maintenance.
This video is satire
All his vids are
sooo..you only do it on the front and not the rear?
his bike had a mechanical drum brake.... but yes, if you have a hydraulic brake on rear it's the same general process.
2:47 look at the crap in the reservoir.....
Joes lawyers must've been in town for this tutorial on Joes bike. Played straight , very disappointed! I always use waste oil in my brakes. Saved myself loads
Hello
Another Nickel Town Customs exclusive kit
they are so badass awesome !
Damn !!! never first
Brakes. Who needs em ?
I always liked Fred Flintstone's brakes
There were 9 stickers there. Do you know how to count?
wow, that's even more bad ass !
SUPER TWEEZERS! Replace your complete toolbox with just one! Include a syringe and you can perform complete maintenance on any vehicle. Just imagine flushing a semi's coolant system using a 1cc syringe. Good times 🍺.
Why would you test brake fluid instead of just refreshing it?
This whole video is a piss take
my bike has air brakes im confused
hey your stickers are not come.i don't think it will come cause I live in India.
I mail stickers out all over the world, including India. never a problem
+Ichiban Moto how long does it take????....can you make like a 1.4 cm sticker of yours????cause I want to stick it on my Rubik's cube!!!
delivery time varies by country and local services
+Ichiban Moto yup..I know..
USE a proper spanner / wrench on bleed nipple !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't use a test kit, it's a waste of 99 cents. I go by color, if it's a red bike - it's good, black bike - it can wait another year, any other color bike - change it.
It's quite clear that having meat on his brakes might cause the spongy lever. Once it has been used several times it gets hard and useless. Perhaps fresh meat may be the answer?
I'll call Nickel Town, there might be a meatless option too
+Ichiban Moto I had a Suzuki Bandit 600 come into the shop today. The owner told me there was a rattle in the gearbox. After lots of checking I had no option but call him and tell him there was not one. "Are you sure?" He asked me," well I have had four children and can recognise a child's toy without any help!". The mans a fool!
I told a customer that was in for a fluids service that I would also adjust his rattley cam chain. He said "no thanks, it's always sounded like that"
Vid on how to refurbish an old metric battery?
refurbish... and why have I been melting all of these things down into gremlin bells ? I will have to try that ! can you send me one?
Sure!! Metric Nissan car battery?
those Nissan motorbikes are rare, but I'll try. po box 1362 Highland Park, IL 60035 USA
i meant to say metric Nissan car battery is that still possible?
lmfao
it's dot 3,4 3or 4
Can i use a normal pregnancy test to test my brake fluid?
probably... but how do you know if it's male or female ?
Its DOT 3 or 4...
I think its DOT 3 or 4 no such thing as DOT 3.4 :)
Ichiban, is this guy at v=4w9eLb3vKqY, by any chance, your brother?
GS1000 with a single disc? That's odd.
it's an 1100
Ooohhh... well that explains everything. :)
+AimlessMoto my gs has updated bicycle breaks.
Somehow this makes way too much sense. Think you forgot to shake the bottle of fresh brake fluid vigorously for at least 1 minute to get most of the air out before pouring it in.
hahah! top tip ! ;)
can i also use kool aid?
Tweezers????!!!!!!!
Turkey baster, remove all the crap!!
Top up with fresh fluid
Use a syringe on the bleed nipple
Suck fluid out until new fluid appears.
Make sure you tighten the nipple.
With a spanner or a wrench.
Not too sure about tweezers.
I notice that you are turning your nipple with pliers, did you know you can get specific nipple clamps?
at the nipple clamp and dildo shop?
Im sure ann summers sell them.
if you've never done brakes before, take it to a professional.
Who will most likely do a botch job in between cigarette breakes and phone calls
He must have been an MMI graduate.
If you follow the philosophy of "if you've never done it before, leave it to a professional", you'll never learn to do anything.
If it is not clear brake fluid then it needs changing. My oil doesn't even get that dirty. Use a dollar store turkey baster and suck the old fluid out of the MC and then add fresh fluid before bleeding the brakes. Use a proper spanner on the bleed screw not a pair of tweezers.
David Ferguson dude this video is sarcasm or a joke
Where does the blood come in? I thought you were going to bleed the brake.
there is blood in my newest video tho ... gruesome
ToyotaKTM The blood comes into play when you take the bike to the dealer.
is that a bag of weed?
jhahahahah seriosly dude, you have to warn people that this channel is everything a joke !!
Use only DOT 3 "or" 4... not "point"
2.26 lol its DOT 3 or 4 . Not 3.4 lol
2:19 its DOT 3 or DOT 4 not 3.4🤒
You do realize his videos are satirical right?
It's DOT 3, DOT 4 not DOT 3.4
dont follow this vid.
I didn't like this video. It was too "right".
umm...not sure what the hell is going on here but if he needs a test kit to tell that brake fluid is shit then probably shouldnt be messing with maintenance.i stopped watching after that .
Is this a joke?
Man, there was junk floating around in there as you refilled it.
Plus what? Don't they sell wrenches around where you live?
Dude, I'm no pro, but your method totally sucks.
I'm not trying to be a prick, but new guys might think what you are showing here is legit....😮💨
