Which is a fraction of how long it would take for spacecraft made with current tech to get to Alpha Centari, the nearest star. It's not inconceivable that in the near future, we have craft that are capable of traversing interstellar space in less than 10k years. And a million days proibably sounded poetic to them.

This is the kind of sci-fi movie I’ve been missing. Small cast, a few locations, and an interesting story. I don’t know if this one will pull it off but I’ll give it a chance.

This would also give the perfect conditions for testing ecological fixes without risking fragile ecosystem.

Colonizing Mars isn’t just about land it’s about resources there’s literally billions of tons of minerals that mars has to offer. Not to mention the scientific discoveries that could be made on mars. And also why wouldn’t we want to go to mars? How boring of a world do you want to live in? Going to mars and living there is a grand adventure for all humanity.
