"He has this song 'Rise' which I used to show my clients all the time when I was starting an assertiveness training with them. I'd put on Johny Rotten's 'Rise', and the line in there is 'Anger is an Energy', and he's got these unbelievably intense eyes... He could channel that like almost no one I've ever seen. He'd get that anger built up inside him, and then it was completely under control. And he expressed it in his music. It was absolutely captivating. Unbelievably charismatic. I really liked his music. Raw anger." - JBP

Rude and irreverent they called him, truthful and genuine, I'd say. Just look into his eyes during the lines "I could be right I could be wrong" He was always right, roflmao, he's just humble and clever enough to offer the possibility of an alternate opinion. So make your own minds up...arrogant or moral, anti-establishment or pro democracy? I love him now as much as back then in a Tom MacDonald vibe. The Pistols were great, PiL less great .. but this song was maybe the best thing Lydon ever recorded. As a record it was more accessible to most people. Terrific song from a great artist! John has given a very moving interview in the Mail about his wife Nora who has Alzheimer's. I want to send out POSITIVITY and GOOD VIBES to John and Nora, along with my best wishes.

I could be wrong, I could be right
    I could be wrong
I could be wrong, I could be right
I could be black, I could be white
I could be right, I could be wrong
I could be white, I could be black
Your time has come, your second skin
The cost so high the gain so low
    Walk through the valley
The written word is a lie
May the road rise with you
May the road rise with you
May the road rise with you
May the road rise with you
I could be wrong, I could be right
I could be wrong, I could be right
I could be wrong, I could be right
I could be black, I could be white
I could be right, I could be wrong
I could be black, I could be white
They put a hot wire to my head
Cos of the things I did and said
They made these feelings go away
    Model citizen in every way
May the road rise with you
May the road rise with you
May the road rise with you
May the road rise with you

For some reason this song popped into my head, and it coincidentally happens to be Lydon's birthday today!

Great read isn't it? He does not dwell on the Sex Pistols and over 80% of the book is PIL. He's a prickly personality, he says what he thinks and you can't help but love him all th more for it. He slags off practically everyone but the bitterness doesn't seem too hateful, it just is what it is.

My poor late dad always said when we were young kids. May the road rise with you where ever you walk son. When I was a teenager he would say, did the road rise up and hit you when I came in with a black eye from fighting lol true that. He's Irish.

Who's listening to this in 2021? Still fresh and sounds bang up to date! BTW I'm 66 and always liked this track but never knew about the class musicians who played on it.

For what John did for England he should be Sir John Lydon. He should be knighted, looking back he is the pinnacle of one mans beleif to say what he wanted i love the guy FREEDOM OF SPEECH ....... FOS a god given right handed to man or should i say men like John England needed a wakeup from the posh up ur nose stigma and to show the world that England was in turmoil like the rest of the world at that stage....... Love You Mate
