  • Gibson Wayne Richard Charvel designed signature series Superstrat guitar from 1987 or 1988. I don't know how to determine that from the serial #. This guitar is 100% stock. It features a Kahler Spider Locking Tremelo, ebony fretboard, Humbucker in the bridge, Stacked Single Coil sized Humbuckers in the middle and neck positions.
This Gibson Super Strat allows you to split coil the pickups by pushing on the volume knob. Each pickup has it's own independent on off switch so you can enjoy every possible pickup combination. Pickups are not marked but it is possible these pickups are designed by Bill Lawerence, I read that somewhere.
The guitar plays very well and sounds really full, fantastic low-end \m/
It's built super sturdy and definately drips of everything great Wayne Charvel is known for.

I think my favourite thing about Jim is that he just looks like your cool uncle or something. But then you hear him play and realize he’s one of the best on the planet!

Very cool. Never saw that specific model before.
Too bad it isn't 24 frets though.

Although the Internet says there was 100 of the signed "showcase models", there was a bit more, I have #104 with all the original papers, a letter from Gibson announcing Wayne as part of their team, etc. If anyone knows of any of these numbered beyond #104 I'd be interested to hear what numbers actually exist. It's a fantastic player and I'd like to own a non-showase edition to enjoy more often. Unfortunately I resist putting further use on it as I see it as a pretty historical piece. The flutter on my tremolo exceeds any other my luthier has experienced, I love the belly scarf personally and it shows how much liberty Wayne had in its design. I wouldn't call the frets small by any means but they were a bit soft compared to modern fret material. Rock-on!

I read the first 200 were signed.

Good to know, I appreciate it! They're pretty cool. Your video is one of few on the subject. Maybe some day I'll break #104 out for CZcams posterity but for now I've gotta work on my chops.
