Congrats on your new baby Paul! Happy to see mother and child are both doing great!
Thought you meant the guitar for a second
@@IssamUAhmedsomething like. Congrats on your new baby, too bad your kid already but a dent in it :D
@@IssamUAhmed I wanted to make a joke about that at first, but then I didn't 😅
@@tomm1413 don't fret about it
@@matschbirne5363 WHAT IS THE MAKE OT THIS GUITAR?
Happy fatherhood! 👏👏👏
The guitar looks and sounds amazing. Thanks for sharing and as for the “beauty mark” just think of it as unique character and charm.😊
In 1961, I was one year old and my mom bought a new 1961 Gibson LG-2 parlor sized guitar as a 2nd anniversary gift for my dad. It was the first guitar I ever saw, touched, and heard played in person. I grew up with it in our house. I never took an interest in learning to play it. After I moved away from home in 1983, I began learning to play guitar. My dad really didn't play his Gibson very often at this point in his life, and he didn't take care of it very well. I told my parents that when the time came, that I wanted my dad's guitar. I really wanted it for sentimental reasons, since the action was really high, it was really dusty inside the sound hole, and just didn't look or play very good. My dad passed away in 2017, and I brought the guitar back to my house and put it in a closet for about 6 months. I mentioned it to a friend of mine who is a very good guitar player, and he wanted to see it. I let him take it home with him and he cleaned it up a little and adjusted the truss rod. Then he told me what he thought it was worth and I was shocked. It was worth 10x what I would have guessed. Knowing this, I decided to take it to a top-notch luthier to get it playing as good as could be expected. When I picked it up and played it, all the sudden it was no longer just a keepsake, it was also a treasured instrument. I have a few other guitars as well, but the Gibson gets played at least a few days every month. Anyway, I like that I have the guitar that I've known longer than any other guitar and I can still play it 62 years after my mom bought it for my dad.
A lovely story, thanks for sharing
agree with the other guy, only I was daydreaming about a J45...))
That's wonderful!
Beautiful - for so many reasons. You do have a priceless treasured keepsake. And simply - he held it in his hands, pressed close to his heart and played it. My dad was a mechanic and I have his favorite screwdriver.
Your love, your enthusiasm, and your crazy wild teaching is infectious! THANK YOU!
Paul, this was very moving for me. I got my Collings D2SB in 2000 thanks to my wife who encouraged me to go for it. She's been gone 20 years now and that instrument is not "just a guitar" as I suspect yours won't be either.
All these years later I look at the scar that my young son put on the top and remember how I told him it was OK, don't cry, it will always remind me of how much more you mean to me than this guitar. I hope your Collings brings you a lifetime of joy and memories.
This is a beautiful comment❤
If either of my daughters put a dent on any of my guitars I would immediately cut them out of my inheritance.
Thanks for sharing all of this knowledge and experience, with us all.
I'm a big guy, and over the years, I always come back to my smaller sized guitars.. a Taylor Big Baby and Academy 12. They truly 'sing' and do have a voice of their own, lots of warmth 'and' clarity. Great companions.. Hi from Québec city. Sylvain G
Great job putting children first.
The same I said to my son as I cradled while cradling him after tripping on and braking my gigging guitar. More broken than our guitars are our hearts when our children lament. Bless yours, unknown friend. ❤
Got the first ding on my Collings OM2HT while playing on the sofa while my beloved dog was peacefully sleeping next to me. She had a startle during a dream and gave the guitar a little kick. She's getting older now and in a way I cherish that little ding as it reminds me of her. Your new guitar is perfect.
Paul! This is a joyous interplay between you and this little Collings work of art. I so appreciate the way you combine the joy and curiosity of exploring music with the rigor and technique that are hallmarks of a great player/teacher. Your sense of humor is what makes it so uniquely you. Cheers to you!
Totally understand your joy of an instrument that really speaks to your soul. It’s a wonderful thing to find a guitar (after you’ve played SO many) that excels in every department. Congratulations, and may you live together happily ever after!
Congratulations. Sounds amazing. Now we need Paul David’s new instrumental album written with this guitar.
I can only imagine Little Paul, all grown up, grabbing this guitar knowing it came from the legend that its his father, to another legend. So many love and stories
Congratulations on your new baby ❤!
I am so happy for you. Thank you for sharing. Your music is incredible. I hope you play loads of music on it for many, many years.
Paul, this is why me and so many others fall in love with guitar. It's the beauty and experience of these magical gifts. Keep spreading the joy and enjoy this beautiful guitar!!
Pearson Handlin (Ridgway, CO)
It looks sick man. The burst color looks beautiful. The fretboard inlays are so classy.
Hey Paul, yet again a lovely video ! Don’t worry about choosing topics for your videos. I would say most of your audience loves your channel because of the way you are able to express your passion for the guitar. It is warm and welcoming and I personally really enjoy all of the videos!
Yes!!! That's so true!
This is the truth!
I've been playing 40 years, I've followed you about 10 years, and literally EVERY aspect of this guitar looks as sounds 10/10. I don't think you can get any better, literally.
I once read someone say in a Facebook Gear Group that the quality of your music gear sets the upper limit, but your talent still has to get it there. Your talent, Paul, is much closer to that guitar's upper limit than mine. Happy to hear you play it.
And, congratulations on the new baby!
I'm so glad you made that OPEN D tuning tune into a full song. Now I have to learn Ambers Embrace, and of course congratulations on your baby, praying the best for your family!
I'm so happy for you man, you deserve it. Keep up with the great work!
I love it that a child "broke in" that guitar. Such a human story, playing with joy from generation to generation and the guitar can tell each story in its own way.
A guitar is something that should inspire...the player.
Glad you found what works for you.
I love small bodied acoustics! What a gem you have in your hands! That 12 fret body makes a lot of difference. I built a size 5 with a luthier friend of mine. But I used a 23” scale on it, and it’s a little monster.
I’ve never actually teared up while listening to music before but my god… Amber’s Embrace is just so beautiful I couldn’t help it. Congratulations on the guitar and the baby ❤
Congrats Paul. Truly deserving of it. The black and orange hues are beautiful, as is its sounds. What a great way of preserving and paying tribute to a clean and honest model.
Congratulations on the new addition to your family! That is an absolutely lovely guitar looks and sound.
Beautiful tone, balance, and bling. A masterpiece from Collins.
The joy this brings you shines through. When a guitar makes you want to smile and gush about it endlessly, you’ve truly found something special. Congrats, and may you enjoy it for many years to come!
An uplifting video: lovely to see your passion and appreciation for this beautiful instrument whilst also saying, "It's just a guitar"! Wishing you many happy hours of playing.
I can't play guitar but I love Paul's videos. His passion is palpable. My hats off to all of you who had the determination and coordination to become a good guitar player!
Lovely video! Your joy is contagious. Double congrats on the baby!!
Dear Paul! I just want to say that I truly appreciate your guitar videos and they make me wish I could play the guitar so much (as a piano player who can't play guitar) also that is one beautiful melody and beautiful guitar. And I absolutely can hear the amazing tone of that guitar. It is not lost on me. It's warm and lush and clear all at once! 😍
In the end we all come back to the acoustic guitar
Great guitar man!
So true. Been playing electric and realized that I rarely plug it in lol😂
Congrats on your two new babies (one child, one guitar) Paul. You are an amazing artist, content creator, inspirator. I have been watching you for years and loved how you approached designing this guitar and how you talk about it. It's absolutely perfect. I would also cry at the dent, perfectionists do, but I guess it's just a memory/something to cherish. All the best! ❤
Thank you for such a gorgeous video and story. Don't worry, you didn't go too far over the top with your love for that guitar. It makes music, it makes you and others happy when you play it. The gift of music is a very precious thing. I hope that guitar never leaves your parlor!!
I love the warm and inviting tone of that guitar. It’s surprising how great it sounds for how small it is. I’ve never played a single 0 guitar, but I love my Martin 000 style. Thanks for sharing the story.
Beautiful guitar, congratulations! I'm thinking that you'll be in love with this for years to come. Thanks for sharing!
There is nothing wrong with feeling a deep appreciation for a beautiful hand made instrument that you connect with. It allows you to bring out through your hands what you feel in your mind and express to the world
Man once that guitar started playing I got goosebumps!!! It’s so heavy ❤️❤️❤️
Same.
I absolutely love smaller acoustics, most notably Breedlove. There's something about the parlor size that just resonates so well with what I want an acoustic to sound like.
Paul is a real man built from a real boy with an unwavering dream. Great job man. Love watching you become so much over the years.
This needs to be a Paul Davids signature guitar. I would buy this in a heartbeat!
That is a GORGEOUS guitar! Beautiful workmanship, beautiful sound.
I cannot believe how amazingly great that guitar sounds. Unbelievable.
Agree
what a beautiful guitar, wow. The way those single notes sound as loud as the chords is baffling, it's almost like there's some heavy yet musical compression being done to the sound, but getting that straight out of the guitar is nuts, it's like you're walking around with an instrument that has mixed and mastered itself... incredible. great pointers for stuff i could potentially look out for when i buy my next guitar. THANKS
I have a Santa Cruz 00-12 that I absolutely love for all the same reasons. Incredible couch guitar and songwriting muse, and it records beautifully. Bravo!
Paul, I so appreciate your passion and love for that beautiful Collings, and don't apologize for your passion!!
That size, to me, is perfect! It's small enough for easy playability that Ken's you become one with the instrument, and the quality materials and build rounding out the fine finished product. It's absolutely beautiful, and you make it sing with incredible subtlety & nuance with your Travis picking!
Good stuff, and thanks for sharing!
Amber’s Embrace is going to be one of the most iconic fingerstyle songs in history. I have never heard a song that spoke to me the way this one does, it has such a calming feeling to it.
Notice the Mary Tyler Moore melody hook? Took me a while to figure out why it sounded familiar hah. Not a criticism.. Paul put together a great tune.
Hey Paul, thanks for sharing!
I recently bought your Acoustic Adventure course, and I'm so happy with it; I've progressed more in the last 6 months than I did in the last 5 years.
I am looking forward to purchase your other courses too once I am done navigating through this one!
Anyway, your channel is so inspiring and interesting (I love learning your tunes), thanks for the effort you put in, both in the creative and in the executive process; you're appreciated.
Ps have you considered posting on your Spotify account your loops and jams? I'm sure a lot of people would love it
Cheers from Italy, have a marvelous day! ☀️
I have always loved a small acoustic. you are 100% right about the balance of highs and lows
That was a beautiful ode to your guitar. It is truly beautiful as are many Collings guitars but you’re playing is inspired by your love and passion for the instrument and it shines through with every note. The resonance of the instrument is wonderful but regardless of the luthiers skill it is your love that shines through. On a lighter note the tune is beautiful. God blessed us with open tunings and beautiful woods to bring them alive. Keep on playing.
That's a gorgeous instrument, and you play it well. Congrats on getting such a personal music generator.
Congratulations on the new human! Fatherhood changed my life so much for the better. Bon voyage! Oh, and sick new guitar. BTW, if you don’t already know, Rockabye Baby is awesome for nap time (I was fond of the Radiohead one).
Congratulations to becoming a father. Just going by how you approach the videos you share with us, you are going to be great as a parent. I hope that momma and baby are well.
The guitar is just gorgeous and sounds amazing. It’s literally perfect and perfectly suited for you.
Het grootste compliment wat ik je kan geven is dat ik de videos die je maakt vaak niet altijd af kijk maar gewoon zo graag zelf wil spelen dat ik mijn laptop dichtklap en muziek ga maken. Dankjewel.
Watching artists appreciate art is basically my favorite thing. ❤
That’s a lovely guitar. Congratulations on the addition to your family.
Awesome, the tone, the playing, the construction, the dent - all wonderful things.
That is one rich sounding guitar - beautifully played. I love small bodied 12 fret guitas, they just ring and are never harsh. That one is a real beauty!!!
Paul you never fail to amaze me, super talented, and congrats on the new baby! 👍🏾
I played every guitar at Gryphon in Palo Alto and kept coming back to my Collings OM 2 short scale. It's been 5 years and I'm still in love with it. Thanks Paul for your love story!
I just bought my Collings OO2H 12 Fret there about a month ago, and I have literally played it every day. I love the guitar so much
Love that store
What a great store. Last visit (98) I played a lovely Taylor Leo Kottke 6 string. Lovely to me.. Didn't buy it, but should have.. haunted me since.
Congratulations on both of your new additions to your family
Love the single 0 look and sound
Congratulations on the birth of your son and on this beautiful guitar. I love small guitars and am in search of one with a beautiful tone!
In a way, it’s a good thing to get that first ding out the way, and kinda nice that it was done by your kid. Adds character/history, and now you don’t need to be so worried about it.
Thanks Paul for your hard work and your passion. This is my preferred guitar channel. 3.25millions subscribers... That's an audience. You deserve it. Ad I hope you make a good living out of it. Thanks for your service. You are a dude.
Thank you for sharing your love of this guitar. I can definitely relate as I have a custom built OO 12 fret slotted head guitar given to me as a surprise birthday present by my good friend at Sumner Guitars. And congrats on fatherhood!
Oh, congratulations on your baby! I love watching your videos, and some of your sounds are so fresh and cleanly played.
If it doesn't feel too small for you, then I'd say it's great. I have a similar color scheme on my epiphone acoustic.
cool... always amazed by the depth you get from small bodied or "parlour" guitars.. I love my little Yairi as it constantly surprises me, and others, with its complexity. The guitar you have there is exquisite in tone and appearance... I feel you're allowed to be picky when you're getting something built to your specs! Bravo!! I guess there should be a shout out to Collings also for the quality of workmanship which shines out..
This was so much fun....I've only been playing since May of '21, starting lessons at the ripe old age of 57. After a lifetime of wishing I could play, I decided that I could give it a try. I started watching lessons on YT, and you were one of the first instructors (mentors? gurus?) to whom I gravitated. While I started learning in face-to-face lessons, too, I signed up for your LPP course around that same time, figuring that I wanted to learn everything I could as QUICKLY as I could. I spent too much money on too many guitars, but I finally think I have the ones I want. Except for the topic of this video: a custom-built guitar. I might never do it, but I fantasize about it. What tonewoods I would want, 12-fret versus 14, Grand Concert or Grand Auditorium or Parlor, Collings or Santa Cruz? So many questions....But I thank you, because you answered a few of them. (I enjoy the visual aspects like you do, and the inlay on that headstock is sublime.) Congrats on your new addition, too! And thank you!
I played a Santa Cruz firefly and it was exceptional. I loved how like you said the notes and chords were so balanced, it just sounded like a recorded guitar... so easy to play and inspiring
I love the small body guitars, and the fact that you zeroed in on the string spacing makes it the perfect instrument for you. It shows us, the less experienced guitar players, that it's good to play as many guitars as we can so that we can find the right instrument for our own hands, styles, and likes.
Congrats on the new addition to your family. As for the piece of wood, I wish I had a piece of wood like that. Sounds fantastic.
I just love parlor guitars and this one is perhaps the best I've ever seen. Congrats on this and the other baby. As always, beautiful playing. : )
Really nice to see that Collings worked with you for a spec deviation on the string spacing. This guitar has so much going for it.
Beautiful tone. Definitely really rich, round and warm tone. It's pretty much the sound I've been looking for, but I guess it wasn't cheap! Thanks for sharing Paul!
Dude I’m so happy ambers embrace is on Spotify now I was in love with this song!!!
The resonance is fantastic for a guitar of that size. The melody at 7:06 is very touching.
What a gorgeous sounding and looking guitar! I love small body guitars. Yours might be my favorite I’ve ever seen. Thank you for sharing!
Wow! ya thats truly one of the nicest I've ever had the pleasure of seeing/hearing Paul. enjoy my friend!!
That’s a beautiful guitar, dude. Congrats! ❤
I love my small guitar too. It’s just so intimate and responsive to being played lightly. It does have a lower ceiling for playing loud, but you know, just like healthy singing has a threshold for producing sound that’s good before you reach for a microphone, so too does every instrument. If it’s a smaller and quieter instrument, I think it’s fun to play that instrument the way that it sounds best, and not to look at that as a con unless you NEED a louder instrument.
Congrats on your new baby! That is an amazing guitar love the slotted head stock.
I have always loved listening to you play. Your finger style skills are sensational and calming. I think, that having a guitar that is visibly attractive to you is so important, especially when you just start playing guitar. It will keep you wanting to play it and keep picking it up, which is so important in those first couple months of learning. Thanks for the video.
Congrats on being a dad! Such a beautiful instrument.
What an amazing and full sound! Has an amazing balance between single notes, chords and strumming--and holds the volume and fullness like no other I have ever heard! When does the signature model go into limited production?
Beautiful guitar ! Sounds amazing! Congratulations on your new baby!
Congrats on the baby! A child doesn't just change how you love, it changes your whole capacity to love. Keep up the good work brother.
Congratulations on both of your new babies Paul! I don't usually leave comments, but I've been following your videos for a few years now, and wanted to say that you really are one of the gems of CZcams. I wish you well in the next chapter of your life.
P.S. Family first ; )
The more artistically beautiful a guitar is, the more you want to play. Beautiful.
You are perfectly you Paul.💛 Love you custom made guitar, the sound is amazing!! Its a jewel💎keep on with all your amzingness, humour, love and beautiful sounds❤
Congrats on the baby, Paul! Blessings to you and your family. I'm sure I wouldn't sound much better on that guitar than my own, but you sound fantastic with it.
I never took any notice in the smaller guitars. I didn't think badly of them, I simply didn't think about them. Then one day I was handed a Baby Taylor to repair and service for a friend. As I finished, installing the strings and bringing it back into tune, I was struck instantly with the even tones and the volume resonating from the smallest guitar that I had ever held. The sound was so amazing that a song spontaneously emerged, seemingly emanating from the instrument itself in thanks for the care. It has been many years since then and I still occasionally strum that song, but the feeling usually pales when I remember the sounds given by that surprisingly impressive little guitar.
I’m a SUCKER for the smaller body/parlor style guitars. Ever since George Gruhn showed me his collection of Martins, I’ve been absolutely ate up with them. It truly is a special thing to find one that can project so much sound and complexity out of such a small body. Very happy for BOTH your new additions 😉
Love watching u play. I think yer love for the guitar and your overall happeniness while playing cuts thru in a huge way! With all your videos! Not just this one. And yer review of the acoustic is awesome! Nicely done.
The intonation!
Visually beautiful, sonically just to die for. Love that guitar
Beautiful instrument, congratulations on being a father!
loved your video. i don't really know why, i'm not even a musician. but that beautiful guitar both visually and audio quality is a thing of beauty. your love and happiness with this beautiful instrument is infectious and made me happy just watching your joy and appreciation of this instument. thank you for sharing your experience.
Congrats Paul on birth of baby but OMG that dent on day 1. Ay Carumba. Still, it is done, and that is one hell of a beautiful guitar and you so deserve it. I've been trying to practice that tune since you first played it on one of your earlier Drop D videos and it's so great to see it blossom into amber's embrace. Rock on, man.
Hi Paul. I`m a professional guitar tech and have played many many guitars in my time .I own several acoustic and electric guitars but always find myself reverting back to my parlour guitar .I love the overall response from it and find the size of the body very comfortable. In my opinion it is the best sounding acoustic I own, and the most satisfying to play. Your new guitar is beautiful and sounds quite similar to my parlour .Congratulations on your newborn.
What model palour do you play. I am in the market for one.
@@brucejones6552 My parlour guitar was luthier built some 40 years ago and has no identification or logo on it Sorry i was of no help to you.
Paul, great congrats on your custom Collings!! Adi bracing? I had 3 back in the day. In the 90's I thought Collings made the most exquisite instruments available despite all the other gifted builders. Bill and team totally ROCK! It's a piece of visual and musical art. So glad you're so happy about it. Enjoy.
My oh my - what a beautiful sounding guitar. Your guitar is more than just functional art.
It has an amazing voice! Thank you for sharing!
