that is a beautiful instrument with outstanding tone and dynamic balance, and your playing is fantastic. with luck i may just get a good parlor size guitar one day. yours is a very good benchmark to compare them to. also, i think slotted headstocks do affect both sound and string feel. much respect. many years of happiness and success! The bass is double tracked into a clean signal and a big muff into another amp. It's what Matt Sharpe of Weezer did on the Blue album. Blur had a tour with Matt's solo project before the song was written. It's a great way to let the bass takeover rhythm on the lows and upper harmonics while staying tight and keeps the guitar free to be used as a lead instrument exactly the formula used on the Blue album .

None of this would really interest or even be understandable by Jimmi... it would be like you reading an Enginnering programming code. He was musically illiterate and that was his greatest strength, he just knew where the sound he wanted in his head was found on a guitar, that's really a God given Gift and he was very, very Gifted. In fact, learning music would have ruined him, he would have been normalized and standardized, Jimmi put no limits on himself because he never knew any better... thank God, there were no rules for him, he would play whatever came into his mind, whether that was 'allowed' musically or not !! He was the Greatest Guitar player of all time because of the incredible, remarkable, and unique influence he has left behind, he was simply brilliant in the way he weaved his emotions and feelings into his playing, the strange 'off' notes he would throw in to change the mood, the mixed styles he used, it all sounds messy but it wasn't, in fact it was beautiful because it all came straight from his soul completely unadulterated, we may prefer other guitarists sounds, say EVH, Angus Young or Steve Vai, (whoever) and I love them all too.... but whether we like it or not, Jimmi wears the Crown, he is the 'GOAT' !! and not to mention... he gave Vaughan a livelihood... shamelessly imitating him all his life !!

I have had five fender, USA, Stratocaster‘s, I had one 1988 Japanese made fender Stratocaster. I never keep them for very long, because I just never bond with them, they don’t feel right to me. They’re not perfect for me. But I have had four Yamaha, Pacifica Guitars. I have had 2 of the 012s, I had a 312, and I just picked up an order 112 from ebay in Sunburst with a Rosewood fingerboard. So I’ve had four of them so far, and they all feel the same. When you go up in price, you’re getting better tuners, better nut, different pick ups, different finish.. but the Guitars feel the same which is good. The neck is Narrow, compared to a Strat. They are well-made, I have not had any fret, sprout., they stay in tune very well, they are not that heavy I am waiting for a 311 or 611 to show up for sale on Facebook or craigslist or eBay. I really like the sound of the P 90 single coil pick ups that come on the 311 and 611. If you have big, fat fingers, the Pacifica may have too narrow of a fretboard for you.. also, I don’t like having a lot of money in a guitar, I’ve had gibson les paul‘s, that they were so expensive, that I ended up, not taking them out of the case, I didn’t want them to get bumped. So they were useless to me because I’ve just was not comfortable taking a very expensive guitar on a gig in some rowdy bar, or in cold weather to and from the gig, so I switched to epiphone Les Paul’s, to tell you the truth, I can’t hear or feel any difference between them, and the gibson’s, except, the gibson’s have flaws in them.. I have a video on my channel pointing out my Gibson, Les Paul, classic P 90 with about a 3 inch flaw at the neck joint, in that video I show several of my epiphone guitar neck joints, and they have no flaws.. Same story with a USA fender Strat. I like my Pacifico’s better than I liked my Stratocaster’s because I like the neck better on the Pacifica, and I like that I could have three or four Pacificas for the price of one new Strat. Not only that, there are so many partscasters is out there, they probably started life as a squire, and the hardware was switched over to make it into a fender, look-alike, that you are taking a chance when you buy one of those things used. You’re not gonna run into that buying a Yamaha Pacifica, at least not yet. Yamaha is the largest musical instrument company in the entire world

They sound much more alike to me than to Paul. But there was a difference in the '62. I had just watched a video comparing jazzmaster to Stratocaster, and I tended to prefer the warmer sound of the JM. Well, what do you know but the '62 Stratocaster also has that type of sound, and so I guess if I could afford $60k for a guitar I would get one. Frankly anything Paul plays sounds so good I did not see what he was complaining about on the Squire.

At the Melody part (3:00), on the G chord, you say fret 1 and 3 on the B string. What is it, stated similarly, on the A-minor chord? You state it as "our melody walks up from C, via D, to the high E string" and I'm not following that. Thank you!

Hi Paul! First of all thanks for your videos! i just wanna get a better relationship with my guitar so that's how I encouted your channel and i learned a lot and had a lot of fun! The thing you noticed about the tuning of this song, and I'm not sure Frusciante was really aware about, is amazing! Probably a musician of a fretless instrument (like violin or violoncello) would compensate the difference by ear ( mabe not even being aware of it) but actually the twelve tone system has this great lack! The octave might be the only shure thing! ( i didn't get into it too much, but mabe even the 5th and 4th should?) Actually the frequencies could be calculated... ALL THIS BLEW MY MIND... But going further, what really blew my mind is what follows.... I'm sorry about the length of this post and i don't wanna waste your time but as you said "I know this number" YOU BLEW MY MIND AGAIN, because I know this number, too, just like as some great physicians! This number blew the minds of several people! My grandpa's father is Arnold Sommerfeld (just google this). Friend of Einstein he has been nominated 83 times for the nobel price but never got it! He was one of the founders of quantum mecanics, and one of his discoveries was the fine-structure constant whitch's value is exactly 1/137. This number 137 is defined alha in physics and was an obsession for Feyman and Pauli (google this) for being a magic number. Paul, don't you think that your 13.69 cents is really fu**ing near to 137?

I guess Dominic's idea is that if you are to become a well-rounded musician, one shouldn't be stuck on just one or two rhythmic patterns. Wonderful advise! I see Paul struggling through the Garota de Ipanema, a rather easy bossa type piece and already adopted and mastered by many American musicians from the 60's onwards. In fact, there are hundreds of other patterns that can be just or (I believe) MORE useful that bossa. Not long ago I learned one of the many types of SON Cubano . . . what a challenge! Can't tell I got it down yet. I'm still working on a Peruvian Lando, a perfect and beautiful combination of rhythm and melody. Sure, difficult but worthy of the returns!
