What makes Paul David's videos so Great? Charm, Joy, and his lovably right-sized love of Music. You're one of my favorite unmet Friends, thank you! xoxo
Exactly!
And his beard
Yes, these passionate music lovers are our Unmet Friends, thanks for that..
As a soloist for 60 years it is paramount that you work at complimenting the melody and song. In rare circumstances you are tasked with providing a section of guitar virtuosity, but mostly your job is to continue the journey in the song for the audience. I enjoy the craft and the challenges presented when asked to do that.
I agree with Tooker: the solo guitarist's job is to blow the damn melody away
Sometimes that is a soloist’s task; most times, not. Depends on what the composer or producer prefers. George Harrison is the best example of complementing the song. There are many others. Wankery can be both a blessing and a curse, and the question is always this: Is it me that’s most important or the music itself?
@@larrypower8659 Especially Harrison, Mike Campbell as well
@@rheinhardtgrafvonthiesenha8185 I don't disagree, heck I spent 10 years in a jam band as well as jazz and acoustic improv
This solo is just insane. Not cliche at all and so smooth and fits the song so well
You have created the unique sound, which is very warm, sweet and not boring the ears! Now it is becoming very rare when you could hear something unique...
Man, that is a jam. It’s impossible not to Bob my head, tap my foot, and pat my hand on the chair. The solo absolute completes the song. I added it to my Apple library. Give me and old school vibe with a new school twist, great combo. I definitely heard some Satrianiesque tones which I love. Bluesy, yet hopeful. And the lyrics made me feel like I would’ve wrote them. Awesome man.
I played the Hopin' non stop when I first heard it and have been excited for another solo from you. This scratches that itch so well. I absolutely love the synth like octave slides and the almost vocal like parts.
I was on the fence until that harmonic bend at the end. That really made it 👌
So crafty! Love it! Making a guitar solo work for a song is so much more difficult than one would think. Not to just throw a bunch of shredding at the song and to actually hear the song. It’s always a challenge! Thanks for sharing. Very inspiring
Dude, years after years of watching your videos I’m starting to feel deep inside me that you’re one (if not THE one) of the most inspiring guitarist I’ve ever listened. You’re so talented and your guitar playing is always serving the music and sound, not just about being technical and impressively fast. Even though I think your style is probably most impressive than a technical beast machine.
Thank you for being so inspiring! Greetings from France 🇫🇷🤘🏼
Watched this no less than 5 times and it gives me goose bumps every time. Bravo good sir, Bravo 👏
Gosh, what a beautiful song and a creative solo that fits it perfectly. The solo takes you up to the summit of the mountain and then a smooth gentle descent back down. Well done!
Truly beautiful and inspiring. The texture achieved with the combination of the playing itself, the multitracking, and the judicious use of effects in that solo is simply breathtaking.
To the casual listener it might seem understated but to those who understand the technicality it couldn't be more over the top. So So Nice!
Went and listened to the whole track! Superb match of sound and great licks, as an integral to the song solo. Excellent job Paul!
I feel like the competitive, creative challenge of writing or learning a solo is unparalleled when learning the language of music. Countless lessons and tutorials have taught me technique but learning solos taught me feel.
I feel like that’s an also a main reason as to why there aren’t any solos in mainstream music nowadays. That, and it “isn’t cool” anymore, plus, artist think they have to fit a mold of 3.5 minute songs so that they have radio playability; and I think it’s really sucked the joy out of a lot of music. A side note as well, (and my personal opinion here), everything is starting to be created with a computer, making it hard to get the idea for a solo, because there isn’t someone in the studio who can, then the thought of a solo doesn’t cross the artist’s mind, for the aforementioned reasons.

We’re also in a “singer’s era,” where a lot of pop singers think their voice has to cover every beat.
That was brilliant…love your videos! You’ve really inspired to me to branch out of my comfort zone and start exploring sides of the guitar that I’ve always been intimidated to even try! I’ve come so far in the last year, more than I thought possible! Thank you so much!
He Paul! thanks so much for the efforts of yourself and your musical compatriots in the composition of your Spotify catalogue. I discovered the catalogue after watching this video, and since then it has provided me hours of relaxing ambience to my studies.
This both inspires me as a guitarist and makes me want to put it down and never touch it again. Brilliant.
You never cease to amaze. Such beautiful work. I added it to my Apple Music library, as well as Cumulus and Sugar Coated. The guitar solo work on Sugar is a bit more old-school but truly effective and actually raised the hair on my arms when I first heard it. That’s an A+ for me, LOL. I admire not only your skill, but your true musicianship. Everything else can be learned but THAT, in my humble opinion, is a gift.
Paul, I so enjoy watching and listening to your creativity. You are truly a gifted musician...keep on putting great music and content out!
Wow. This is so good. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up to give a standing ovation after the sweeping part. Very well done Paul. Your musicality is so inspiring.
Your sense of feeling is such an amazing thing! Really feeling the vibes of that fabulous solo
absolutely loved your solo in that song!! it sounds and feels so fresh
That's a stunning wee solo that fits beautifully. Well written... and a great tip of the hat to the journey you've been on Paul.
What an amazing guitar solo that was! Perfectly fitting into the track and you made a superb video about it! I'm so impressed Paul!
An awesome solo Paul and fantastic approach to creating it and using production to truly enhance it. Thanks for breaking it down for us!
Hi Paul, this is an AMAZING solo. I enjoyed listening to it over and over again, and over and over ... I'm not sure, but I spotted a Chris Buck style lick in that solo... the bending with the sliding... I love it... This song definetely needed a solo. I hope you bring more work like that! Keep up the good work!
Thank you Paul that you are with us. Keep rocking. Cheers mate 🎸🎸🎸🎸
What a lovely feel to that solo..brilliantly explained as always. Great job!!
You're always inspiring man! Cheers!
Great chord movement. Combined with the dual/stereo delay, it was delightful to listen to
Perfect! Fit so well with the song which is so soothing. Makes me feeling I'm floating in the room. And this last note, you just want to hang with it forever...
Absolutely incredible dude!!! Love your videos and have now added your Spotify songs on my play list! So impressed, as always!
You have outdone yourself and given another proof of what a brilliant of a guitar player you actually are. I'm completely blown away. Amazing technique and knowledge used exactly in the right place, you just hit the best fitting notes the song needs and yet created an extravagant little solo in a way I never heard it. Definitely gonna take a listen to your new single!
Beautiful!, excellent work Paul!
The creativity and skill on this solo is amazing. It is unlike any of the typical solos. Blown away!
Wow!!! I’m out of words do describe how beautiful and pleasant that solo sound. It’s everything; the tone and effects selection (sound of the guitar), the notes, the techniques, the feel and connection to the song… Love it!!!! Great job man. I would love lo hear you playing one of my amps and guitars.😁
SPECTACULAR!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 So tastey! You're a world-class 'Craftsman' Paul, giving true purpose for each note. To say 'Well done Paul' is an extreme understatement. Your videos are truly inspirational 💛💚💙
Paul that solo is amazing and fits beautifully in that space, and most definitely some elegant sweeping lix!!! Great stuff!!! Great grovin tune!!!
Man, what a creative guitarist! As a bass player I really appreciate your thought process and how you used a blend of different techniques (that at least to me aren't so commonly used together) without being too extravagant about it!
Simply beautiful, and nicely explained. Cheers!
I do love the way you broke down the solo especially how you made the octave parts much more interesting. Lots of tasty techniques! Made me pick up my guitar and practice....
Oh wow!!! I was just thinking about you two days ago! My dream has come true!!! I am absorbing as much as possible from your educational videos. I do not play guitar, but I have something like a guitar and listening to music, your videos have given me a much more appreciation and education of what I m hearing. THANK YOU!!! ❤❤❤🌸🤟
Absolutely amazing! Great work Paul!
That was brilliant!! Your guitar solo brought more life to that great song!
Well and nicely done, Paul!
Thank you for sharing!
I am once again amazed by you. Your music really gives me a feeling I’ve never felt before.
beautifully written and flawlessly performed, would love to try it out myself. this here kinda shows guitar solo is like a backbone to the song and it is eternal it can never die even in hundreds of years into the future.
I love this song. Great work paul! That solo is killer too. Fits so well.
1:20 I don't like sweep picking. I agree 100%. I've never been a fan of solos with a million notes, and I listen to a lot of instrumental music.
Shredding should be used for flavoring and to create interest. This is includes sweep picking. Sometimes a million notes is fun too. People act like it was 80’s guitarists that invented it. Paganini and a million other classical composers have been shredding for centuries and no one ever accuses them of not have “feeling”.
@@dezertson2011 that is true, I feel like a lot of shredders are more focused on shredding and keep it pentatonic. Not saying it's necessarily a bad thing. Like you said, tasteful. You can I IV V all day and do a lot with it, I just prefer feel over technicality. I mean if you look at bands like the black mages, they shred for sure but it never seems superfluous or out of context. That could be bias too tho. I've heard them described as "space music"
The solo just touches my soul...it's soo good Paul!...love it! I repeated that section over 10 times now.
When you hit those harmonics in the solo there were tears in my eyes, this is even better than the hopin’ solo. I haven’t felt so overwhelmed with excitement and satisfaction over a guitar solo like this ever
Every time I watch your videos, I learn a little something new. Thank you, Paul.
Just listened to the track Paul, absolutely superb! And your guitar solo just lifts the whole song! Great work!!!! 🤘🏻
i was exploring new music in spotify and I went to yours and parsa's profile and found this song 3 hours ago and LOVED IT !
you guys really should make more music
I love that you are working with a persian boy too! love from iran❤
Thank you for beeing such an inspiration to creating music. That was truly awesome!👊😃
13 in a dozen is my new favorite saying for something played out. You make it look effortless, my friend, but I know this is something you've put a lot of time and thought into. You're a great teacher, thank you!
It's a Dutch expression equivalent to "a dime a dozen".
That sounded amazing. What beautiful playing, and creativity!
YES YES YES! Holy cow this song is on repeat. I wish the solo would make a comeback in this style in modern music! Such intentionality and selflessly considers the song and message as a whole. I love it!
Paul - incredible job, perfect fit and technically top of the chart. You did an amazing solo.
Can’t say enough about how great this entire video really is. Paul, you have that “it” factor, both as a guitarist and as a host on CZcams. You have it going on. Hope to hear you in person some day - coming to Florida anytime soon?
I am normally suspicious of electric solos ... now a day. Many think just distortion and fast is .... whatever it is... I am genuinely impressed with what you showed and did to build the nice sound sculpture for the solo section ... nice job.
Perfectly complimentary to the song all while highliting an extremely talented player...what more could you ask for. Very modern sounding, yet a subtle nod to the greats of yesteryear. Great stuff Paul!
I can't stop listening to this song it's so good! And your solo is a perfect! 👌
This is going to be a favourite guitar solo, which I will enjoy hearing and attempting to learn/ learn from .. for a long time. Thanks for this insight into how to play.
Really beautiful! Nice work Paul!
Wow Paul, es increíble esto, tu sonido es maravilloso, entre más te escucho tocar más maravillado quedo, mereces cientos de miles de aplausos. 👏👏👏
This is one of those rare moments when amazing melody outshines the impecable technique. You're one of a kind Paul ❣️🌻😍
Superb tone and playing. Superb video editing!
every video i watch form you i get so inspierd, thank you so much PD !

This solo, and the song, is so good! I’ve listened to it dozens of times
It works. It works perfectly. Not obtrusive or self indulgent at all. It fits. It’s melodic, even lyrical as you say and uplifts the effect of the song as a whole. Love your approach. It shows an uncommonly well balanced ego. Well done.
I love it too... the guitar is so beautiful and modern, that means fresh, like the song! Chapeau!
Woww! The level of creativity in this guy is insane!! What a good Solo Paul! It is as good as the one you did in Hopin! 🙌
I have to agree. Splendid use of sweeping, impressive without showing off and meticulously effortless. Structure, style, innovation and ingenuity. Great example to bounce ideas off of.
Wow. 👏 I could listen to this forever. Out of words. Legend 🙇♂
A tasteful lead that wasn't under or overstated. I also agree with the sweeping fitting right in and not being an element of showing off. Well done.
Loved the tone and the solo itself. Also loved your performance as Istari wizard in The Rings of Power.
Beautiful solo. Very tasteful. Great job Paul
Killer work man, sounds too good and fits perfectly on the vibe of the song.
Nice job Paul! In the past it never occurred to me to double a solo, but the way you used it was quite effective, I just might try something like it in the future.
Superb! So well crafted,
Stunning and the sweeping works to perfection
Beautifully refreshing, love the vibe.
So cool solo Paul !! Fantastic
Such amazing hands. Outstanding.
Very beautiful playing Paul.
Actually a very nice approach of modern guitar soloing!
Kudos Paul, have a good one! :)
Love this modern take on a solo. Giving me strong Ratatat vibes. Thanks Paul!
My godness this is pure music, Paul. Well done!
This was absolutely amazing! Such a gorgeous guitar solo 😮
Beautiful song and respectful melodic solo. Perfect delivery and tones.
Beautiful tasteful and appropriate. Bravo!
I had to listen to it again right away, with my eyes closed. Only later did I notice that the name of the song is "blind." I particularly liked the section where he makes a strat sound like a sarod (Indian fretless stringed instrument with metal fingerboard played with the fingernail against the string.) Truly awesome and David has every reason to be proud.
Really beautiful! Cheers Dave
A: That solo was a perfect match for the song and you did a wonderful job of it!
B: The absolute master of what you described here, making a solo add to the song and, in his case, taking it to the point where the solo may become the backbone of the entire song is Dave Gilmore! Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Comfortably Numb, On The Turning Away! Devin Townsend can do most beautiful songs like that, too. Deadhead comes to my mind. Marillion's Steve Rothery has done quite a few wonderful songs in that style, too. Out Off This World is one I listened to only a few days ago where he did another perfect job of that.
C: Guitar wanking the soloing for solo's sake is! 😁 Pointlessly up and don the plank with the hand, until the audiences throw up. You are the first one I hear call this out this directly besides me. ☺
Great guitar work makes beautiful music. Nice to see you doing up tempo work … more please kind Sir!
I've seen Satriani in concert a few times and even after his full set, I could have listened to more. Your solo really adds to the song.
Inspiring! It reminds me of the Allen Parsons era of creativity which also brought a different approach to the modern music of the day. What you are presenting now also delivers the same in today's musical culture. Inspiring!!!
Zwaaar onder de indruk. Het liedje zelf, jouw plan van aanpak, de toelichting van wat je doet en hoe je het interessant maakt (octaves)! Hele unieke solo die ik al heel vaak geluisterd heb de afgelopen 24uur. Legen......... dary ❤️ !!
Your solo actually fit very well into the context of the song ! 😎🎸🎶
