This should show everybody now that Lincoln Riley's system is not some plug and play thing. Baker Mayfield was a freshman star at Texss Tech before he got to Oklahoma. Kyler Murray was considered the greatest, or one of the greatest high school QBs of all time. Jalen Hurts started for Bama multiple years and was a seasoned vet when he got to Oklahoma. Lincoln Riley had it easy for a while. Anybody that doesn't know Caleb Williams doesn't follow ANY recruiting, even national signing days. Stop using ESPN for your recruiting stuff too. On 247 sports composite, he was ranked 7th overall. He is ranked the 102nd best overall recruit since 2002.

One of the biggest problems with Spencer was he has that extremely cocky attitude, which is not necessarily a bad thing. I mean look at Johnny Manziel, love him or hate him, when he was in the game (at least at the collegiate level) he was the best player on the field and he absolutely backed it up with his play (Texas A&M vs Alabama in 2012 as an example) which made that attitude almost charming in a weird way. When you have that attitude and struggle at home against a not very good West Virginia team after just squeaking by Nebraska thanks to of one of the most insane interceptions in the programs history, on top of Oklahoma having one of the best coaching staffs to groom Heisman QBs it leaves Oklahoma fans with a bad taste in their mouth, that this guy acts like, in your words the second coming of Jesus. On top of that when you have a true freshman QB on the bench that is widely liked by just about anybody who does follow Oklahoma who comes off as a very humble ( Ironically tattooed on Spencer's arm) and likeable guy. It's just a perfect storm of both sides being better off if they go their separate ways. I wish the best of luck to him, and I genuinely mean that, but as a fan of the team, I would not like to see him start another game as a Sooner.
Interesting that you bring up Manziel because that's where my brain went. Obviously not in terms of college play but what happened when Manziel went from college to the pros. He got exposed and, due to the attitude and work ethic from the earlier level, never saw the need to change. I hope he has learned something from this experience and gets to another school.
I remember watching this kid on Netflix and thought he had his future made to the NFL some day. I always wondered what happened to him not hearing anything about him after Netflix and now I know. All the hype got to him and took him down. Hope he at least got some education in college and can do something with that.

the main idea would be to stay focused on the goal and eliminate distractions. get the good draft pick and go on to better things, but if there is inconsistency at OU, what would happen in the NFL, where there is more publicity and distractions?

The first 3 games were so close I thought OU was in rebuilding mode. But i was wrong, Spencer wasn’t being effective at all when he was a starter and was making the opposing team look like they had a chance to win.

When you get benched on a undefeated team as qb that is not good and its times to evaluate. Also id like to point out on 70% of plays he got sacked or threw a pick, someone was wide open within his vision. He may just either be short to see over his line or too panicky that he chokes up. Guy needs to relax and let the ball rip and just take the hit.

But is you watch him on Netflix QB1 and watch Caleb Williams interview in 2020 with John Hoover- you see a different mentality, maturity, and competitiveness in the two.

Spencer will get better because of this experience. His arm talent is extraordinary and if he stays at OU he will be better for it. Lot of backups with talent have gone on to NFL and succeeded. Problem is Lincoln is most successful with a true RPO QB. Spence is a pro system QB. Just my opinion.
