    Disappointment? Clemson play calling has always been bad. The team had gifted passer like Watson and Lawrence but continue to call designed Qb runs qb draws qb zone reads etc. Luckily these guys were gifted and made awful playcalling look brilliant. The only difference with DJ is that he is not a good runner like those 2. He is a pure pocket pro style QB. Dj just doesn’t fit their scheme. Elliot likes to run the Qb dj just not a runner. That’s why Kelly Bryant had success in Clemson offense as well.. Elliot needs to match his personnel

    I see this trend continuing across the nation. Just because they are a 5star should not mean anything other than they were good in High school. These kids are surrounded by “yes” men, and that is not good for a young man to be told yes all the time. These young bucks need some tough love in their lives, which sadly is being looked at as toxic in today’s spineless cancel culture society.

If clemson needs to bench him they will. Then he either earns the spot back or leaves. This situation is only as big as it is because of the expectations on him as a five star. Lastly, you claim to hate pc bullshit but you're trying to ding a person's character who didn't even earn it. He's just not playing good football.

    • @matthewsmith2506
      @matthewsmith2506 Před 2 lety

      No you are wrong . If the teams that evaluate these players think they have the skills to play in there system 4 times out of 5 they will be successful, it’s not just about the 5 star rating . That really means nothing to the National Powerhouse teams. It’s about what they see not what 24-7 or ESPN thinks. That’s why Alabama and Clemson hit more times than they miss on the QB position but people make a big deal about it when they do miss. But yes there is a lot of entitlement these days but that's got nothing to do with football or the teenagers who play the game. That is a learned trait. Your not born thinking your entitled. We need to stop shielding them from the consequences of their actions thinking we are protecting them. We also have got to stop telling them how perfect they are because nobody is.

  • @lacywm
    @lacywm Před 2 lety +6

    Last year, he had a generationally talented RB, and WRs that could take the top off the d. I've been hearing references to Kelly Bryant all year. Here's the deal, Kelly Bryant didn't have terrible years at Clemson. As a matter of fact, when he got benched, for Trevor Lawrence, he wasn't playing terrible then. And when you watch the film, w/o Kelly Bryant, Clemson does not beat Texas A&M...which probably would've had implications on the CFP that year. I think DJU still has time. But the QB standard at Clemson has been so astronomically high these past 6 or 7 years, that fans will naturally be impatient. Lastly, you'd expect a seasoned OC to rescheme certain sets and allow DJU to work to his strengths this year. But I've not seen that. Or maybe they have made adjustments and the execution is just not there. #transferportalisneeded

    DJ is a great kid but not a great college quarterback, he is slow, refuses to run when called upon to do so, but most of all he is soft and not vocal or decisive and certainly not a leader, he simply lacks the stones for big time college football. Rest assured he will not be our starter next year. Hopefully TE will be gone next year as well.

Watson never had a great O-line but look what he did . To be honest though our 2016 O-line was not great but they were close. Also the O-line last year was not much better but Trever still played great.

  • @bitchimaBuckeye
    @bitchimaBuckeye Před 2 lety +1

    He has been bad but i would argue its also the coaching. I have a feeling Ryan Day, Lincoln Riley, and Nick Saban would have this man playing better. I feel like Trevor Lawrence could have been better but Clemson play calling set him back although he still ended up being the #1 pick mostly because of his skill set. Is there a new qb coach at Clemson because i feel like something might be lacking coaching wise. Just my opinion i could be wrong but he seemed to be better last year. Same thing happened with Jt Barret at Ohio State. Dude was so good his freshman year with Tom Herman being his qb coach. After that year Herman left and JT was never the same after they hired Tim Beck. Actually Buckeye Qbs didn't really get better until Ryan Day was hired in 2017.

    If he looked good and put up 400 yds passing on Notre Dame last season, what makes you think the offensive coordinator is the issue #logic?
    The issue is twofold… He can’t make the reads and go through his progressions (QB Coaching), and his footwork is atrocious which causes his accuracy issues. These two issues have caused this man to lose all confidence in his ability to execute the offense.

    Scott made Trevor look better than he was and if you love football and know the game then you know what I mean! The guy who couldn’t win a defense and a program who would implement the same offense they ran in high school same with Watson and now in the pros Trevor looks confused on a lot of plays, he was the face of college football but wasn’t even the best quarterback, inaccurate when throwing 15 yards or more. Not saying he can’t but most of time he will under throw it! He had a talent team around him and playing in a cupcake conference! It’s hard to lose with that talent

    I'm still a big supporter in DJ. I believe he's going to be great but I think we have to slow down with our expectations. Remember he's a first year starter who has to fill the shoes of Trevor Lawrence not to mention he has to live up to the recent expectations of Clemson QBs with Boyd, Watson, and Lawrence. His talent shouldn't be a question I think most NFL scouts would agree that DJ is talented. The question is can he put that talent together? Can he put the ball in the right spots and be efficient while doing it. Remember he was the #1 or #2 QB coming out of highschool depending on who was ranking them. DJ will be fine not everyone is going to pop their first year as a starter
