Nicola, I am so thankful for your academy workshops! I have been stitching since 2021 but have never ventured into any new stitch except smyrna and satin stitches. Another great video, the herringbone stitch is lovely. I practiced the stitches you showed and thought they were herringbone but couldn’t identify the open and the other one. So interesting to see all the stitches come to life. I can only imagine the water coming up, there’s always something with a home to take care of. Hello Sharon - I think the best way to describe a compensating stitch is as one that does not appear in the normal stitch path but is required at the start and end of a series of stitches and sometimes when reorienting.

Could you share how you started your thread on this stitch? I used a waste knot, but, when I checked the back, not a bit of the thread had been caught! 😂

Hello Susan. On the reverse of your herringbone you have vertical stitches so you can run your start and end threads under those stitches or use a waste knot with an anchoring stitch. However, when working closed herringbone stitch you can bury the ends under the front of the herringbone stitch if you have good coverage with your chosen thread and fabric count.

Unfortunately, I reviewed the last video too late to participate in the contest. I did make a note of what stitches I thought were on the back but I would not have won anyway. Hello Ellie - It’s actually quite difficult for me to see where my needle is going as the camera blocks a direct view. I am actually looking at the fabric and working from the side of the camera.
