Sir,i'm following ur chnl for last few months n they r really amazing.i'm looking for a solution n i think ur the only person can help me out...i use iphone 7 with bias fx and i wish to use a melo audio midicommander in a portable format.prob is iphn 7 dont have a 3.5 headphn out but having only a lightning output..my question is can the usb powerd hub be powered by a mobile smartphne charger? So i can attach i phn to that camera kit to go to usb hub n power it by a mobile smartphone charger..n add the melo audio midi commander n berhinger 202hd interface to usb hub...will this work??

Hey there my friend. Yes, if you are looking to power a powered hub using a power bank or portable battery you can definitely do this, but you will need an adapter for the power cable. Take a look at this video where I show how to create this sort of setup - czcams.com/video/k2LpLjHnKGw/video.html

      Hey Pete.
I have an iPad Air 3rd gen.
      (Lightning connector)
      Scarlet 2i2 3rd gen.
      Oxygen61 midi keyboard
I have the camera connector/adaptor and an insignia usb 3.0 powered hub.
I want to record my midi keyboard and then run my vocals through the 2i2 and monitor with headphones plugged into the 2i2 all into garageband.
I have followed the steps you have on the video Multiple times. I have plugged and unplugged multiple times and cannot get them all to work together.
      What am I missing here?
Could this just be the insignia 3.0 powered hub I am using possibly?
I am running out of hair to pull out!

One of the best, Prof. Here is your low-cost home studio config with incredible recording ability. Pete could have plugged in a guitar instead of a mic into the Steinberg. I will immediately change my recording setup as a result of this video. Didn't think the keyboard could be always in the loop because I didn't realize the powered hub would power it, a Game Changer! Pete, you've shown us all what a minimal recording config might look like. This is really important guys! Thank you.

@@PeteJohnsMusic I do have that switch but my Steinberg wouldn't work without powering it with the 5V connection. The USB into the powered hub as well. Odd that you don't have to. It works fine, it just needs to be powered. You have a different model of the UR12.

Yep, 100%. It’s pretty cool isn’t it? Once an audio interface is connected, all audio goes through that output, even MIDI keyboards also connected via USB. It’s actually something that confuses people sometimes as they try to use the headphone port and it won’t work.

Not sure sorry. If it delivers 5v of DC power that should be good for most devices.

Hey Pete, I'm having an issue with my set up... I have my iPad (set up with Beatmaker3), my camera adapter, my powered USB board and my audio interface (ONYX Artist 1-2), but everytime I hook up my monitors, no sound comes out? If I hook up the monitors without the Onyx, the monitors produce the sound coming from the iPad, but with the Onyx plugged in, nothing. The Onyx is receiving power, because when plugged in, the lights do go on, and according to their website, this model on Onyx IS class compliant... what am I doing wrong here? Any help would be appreciated.

Hey there. This usually comes down to monitoring audio either direct or via the software. Make sure that if you’re recording you have the orange “monitor” button on. If you’re still having issues, maybe provide more info and ask over at the GarageBand Users or Create Record Release Facebook groups. createrecordreleaae.com

Hi nice setup but I am confused. Why do I need the USB to Lightning adapter? Wouldn’t it be possible to connect the iPad directly to the hub with the regular Lignhning data cable, which comes with the iPad and which has an USB A plug? Or is the adapter really necessary so that the digital data can come through? What’ am I missing?

Hey there. Yes, the Lightning to USB adapter is required to create the proper host that can transfer data and power.

Pete Johns Hi thanks. Do you mean it is a smart adapter with some electronics inside and not merely a « dumb » adapter replacing the Lightning socket by an USB A socket?
