    Those springs went in nice and easy. Excellent job on fabricating those patches for the crossmember.

      Thanks very much! I was surprised how easy they went in. :)

    Jimmy I ordered all my patch panels for my 64' C10 from Classic Truck Parts and Top Banana. Love your C10. It appears you are still running the gas tank behind the seat. 😁

    • @JimmyMakingitwork
      @JimmyMakingitwork  Před 2 lety +2

      Yeah, I think I'm leaving it behind the seat. Previous owner had it gone thru, allegedly. When I try and fix the gas gauge I may change my mind. After a look in the tank. lol

    Hello again Jimmy
    Thank you for another Great Video. Question for you, reinstalling the missing cross member plates. Won't they eventually cracked under stress? I am not Structure Mechanic or Fabrication Mechanic. On the other hand, those springs went in easier than I thought they would. I agree with you about height being better!!!! Again thank you

    • @JimmyMakingitwork
      @JimmyMakingitwork  Před 2 lety +3

      These frames are over engineered and really strong, but if anything leaving it the way it was might allow stress cracks if it was still be used and abused as a truck. Now that it's mostly a cruiser, or will be, no real problem other than bothering me being cut up. :)

    Big fitzee fan here also mate! ive never welded at all before but i picked up a cheap flux core mig and have successfully patched 16g panels on my 4wd on my first attempt, no blow through! His a legend! i think your a legend too - your pragmatism is a breath of fresh of air, most mechanics dont understand the balance between costs and doing it right. i feel like there is a middle ground, and you have a handle on that. i was curious though why you went for those panel gapper clips / hydraulic lipper vs doing the good ole cut and but?
    ps. im a software engineer, not in the industry at all! Im curious about taking anything apart and putting it back together, not just code. im here to be mentored! You have a MORE diverse audience then you think :)

      Thank you very much for the kind words!
      Fitzee is the best I've seen at rust repair...I've learned a lot from him!
      As far as the butt clamps, I am doing several panels that are all twisted and laying the repair panels over them to cut them seems like it might be very difficult. So I mostly bought these in case I need them. We will see. :)

    Talking about parts, Rock auto has gotten outrageously high on their shipping. I could’ve sworn it was free or something like that before😳

    • @JimmyMakingitwork
      @JimmyMakingitwork  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah, shipping has gotten WAY more expensive everywhere. Fuel prices are a huge factor I think.

    Your wire speed is too low Jimmy
    I think that steel would have bent easier in a Chinese Vise. It was refreshing to see you using the best, Wilton USA Bullet

    • @JimmyMakingitwork
      @JimmyMakingitwork  Před 2 lety +2

      I think I move the tip so slow that it builds up on me, so I always use a slower wire feed. Seems like this machine feeds fast or I’m moving too slow to me anyway.

    Jimmy I waited months for some of the patch panels and whole panels for the '79 C10 I'm restoring. No rhyme or reason to it. And shipping. Yeah, shipping. In the interim, over the last several months while waiting for ordered parts to be in stock, shipping went up 100% :(

    • @JimmyMakingitwork
      @JimmyMakingitwork  Před 2 lety +2

      Yeah, shipping is going crazy along with so many other things. My roof panel was $380 and the freight is $388. Or it was when I ordered it 3 weeks ago. :/
