My recommendation: the coin's value should be at least 10x higher than the cost of how you store it. Capsules: Only for proof coins and rare/valuable stuff. Using capsules for cheap modern coins is a waste of money. Self-adhesive 2x2s: for Brilliant Uncirculated (BU) and silver coins - perhaps they are not entirely air tight, but they do help reduce/eliminate oxidation. Lighthouse brand ones are pretty good. Generic 2x2s that you staple together: for everything else Plastic baggies: Only for short-term storage/transportation
I'm still just starting up, but my current model is this: Stapled 2x2 for anything with precious metal in it as well as all commemoratives, better condition units, full sets by reference code, errors and variables, and curios. Slabs if originally bought thus. Adhesive 2x2 only if originially bought so. PL-ED griplock bags for intermediate per-country storage ISO 9076 standard copy paper cut into folded pockets or rolls for medium-to-long term storage of regular circulated coins. Also short-to-medium term storage of billon coins that haven't been flipped yet due to storage materials shortage. Haven't bought capsules yet and I've taken some cheaper coins out of theirs to flip them for more efficient storage. The flips in boxes or pages seem more durable, especially with the staples flattened. Capsules crack and shatter if one's not careful.
That's why I only collect ancient and medieval coins, you are allowed to touch them with your bare hands. I don't fancy having to use gloves and tweezers to touch my coins.
Exactly! Hands on coin collecting is the best. They are mine so I will continue to handle them as I please. I have freed several from their slabbed prison. They are still the same coin without the annoying plastic container.
i always touch my ancient coins with my fingers - holding them comfortably you are less likely to drop them. I also put a coat of renaissance wax on the surface to anything on my fingers does not affect the patina.
I went searching for the tongs you use in this video. And, I think I found them! But they seem very expensive for what they are. Now I'm looking for a good (but less expensive) alternative. Good video!
Also umm for a note: DO NOT USE PVC Plastic to store coins because if you do this after a crazy amount of years later is starting to appered what is like Green slimy in your coin and a more years late your coins where startign to corroded but you can remove them by using Asetone or other liquids that can remove pvc in your coin but PLEASE do not store them in PVC Album or Package & containers even in Banknotes also can damaged in PVC Videos for proof: Coin & banknote Albums czcams.com/video/4qDPJmGWZbw/video.html Cleaning PVC Damaged coins czcams.com/video/upRSdRXexos/video.html Cleaning pvc damaged coins (Acetone) czcams.com/video/13IsKehQwEw/video.html What is PVC? czcams.com/video/MTcWuomfT6A/video.html
Thank you for the information about the storage of my coins. You speak English very well and for this I admire you. The Russian language is very different and it takes a lot of effort on your part to speak such a foreign language as English.. You have gained a new subscriber. I see that you also have a store. I will check it out soon. I wish you well from the United States and good luck with your coin collection.
Half of your tips are OK but another half are really bad.For example , never dip proof coins in alcohol. Alcohol is never pure so when you will get your coin out ,alcohol will evaporate and everything else will stay on the coin and after sometime you will see it. Highly polished coins should never be touched under any circumstances and never wiped with any cloth. Nature of mirror proof is very sensitive to anything even the gentle wipe with the softest cloth will leave net of very tiny scratches. Also storing coin in such plastic sheets is bad idea. I am dealing with coins for some time already and I saw many times coins stored in such way for longer periods of time ruined and covered with sticky coat of dissolving plastic and this is not easy to removed. I am not trying to put down your intentions ,they are good but you should consider the fact that maybe some beginners will follow your tips and they are wrong. If you want to post video about proper storage of coin collection you should do proper research first.
1963921 lol who are you the coin police? Shut up and let the girl make her video. Their are hundreds of videos like this. People can make their own opinion.
You must be from Russia as well and I think you madly in love with that girl because you are acting like that. If you are able to think for a moment you would know that I am doing her service (and to all coin collectors who are the beginners) because if some Russian will follow her tips and destroy the coin (maybe expensive one) she may end up being sued for false advertising and misinformation. So please go and learn and then comeback and do posting.
1963921 not being sarcastic or offensive but you should make a coin collection beginners guide if you care so much I would gladly read it c: doesn't even needs to be a video, can be a page with information!
Or you could just grow up. Too bad you don't care for anything he says, 'cause he doesn't make the coin collecting rules, the rest of the coin collecting community does. He's just trying to do you all a service, and sparing you all some future pain and dissappointment, by letting you and her know what the expectations are. Also, just because you said the words 'not being sarcastic or offensive', doesn't mean we can't see through the veil of deception. If YOU actually care about coin collecting, go read some ALREADY PUBLISHED books and magazines, like every serious collector does, and stop relying solely on youtube videos (half of the 'instructional' videos are being put out by ignorant beginners, who should be doing more reading and less video producing anyways).
I found some coins in my father’s wardrobe and they are so old that you can barely read the text. How do I rid it of dirt? I don’t want to make it brand new but just not dirty.

Спасибо за хороший видео :)
Do not put them in alcohol and dont dont clean them using chemicals...
I found some coins in my father’s wardrobe and they are so old that you can barely read the text. How do I rid it of dirt? I don’t want to make it brand new but just not dirty.
Never ever clean your coins, if there valuable they loose there value when cleaned and a skilled collector can tell if they have been cleaned.
