WHY THIS MATTERS IN BRIEF: As computing becomes ubiquitous, and embedded in the devices around us, we won't always want to talk out loud to use them, that's one of the many use cases for this technology.
MIT researchers have developed a new form of computer interface called AlterEgo that lets users silently converse with a computing devices and that can transcribe words that the user verbalises internally but doesnât actually speak aloud.
The system consists of a wearable technology device and an associated computing system. Electrodes in the device pick up neuromuscular signals in the users jaw and face that are triggered by internal verbalisations, in other words in the same way you say words just âin your head,â but that are undetectable to the human eye. Those signals are then fed to a machine learning system that has been trained to correlate particular signals with particular words which then lets the user "silently" converse and interact with, for example, Google as the clip below shows.
The device also includes a pair of bone conduction headphones, like ones I've mentioned before that can even turn rings into phones, which transmit vibrations through the bones of the face to the inner ear. Because they donât obstruct the ear canal, the headphones enable the system to convey information to the user without interrupting conversation or otherwise interfering with the userâs auditory experience.

Put this tech on a coma patient who is able to hear what's going on around them to allow them to communicate with loved ones...
Iâve been in a few comas and you donât hear shit.
Thats the pitch to make u believe in it, truth is all this stuff will allow criminals to find out financial info and steal on a massive scale. Disrupting society totally
I donât think a coma patient can google you answers if they canât talkâŠ
lol
They would have to have compassion for that to occur to them. Someone audacious enought to intrude on people's thoughts would never.
For people noticing that he's hearing the answer aloud...that is how it works. The technology reads his brainwaves but it's not going to insert the answers into his brain. To put the thoughts into his head would break many codes of ethics.
Not just that itâs because itâs impossible to put tangible words into someones head as of yet. We donât know a lot of things about the brain lol. We can read but not write so far
Are you F**Ken! Kidding me ! This is too funny LMAO! SO the host is reading out loud the question to this guy so he can google it with his mind thats just freaking amazing!!đđđ
Wow this is amazing
Did a name nikol or waleed obtained such devices from or a guy named thomas
When this has 0 input lag and can type words faster than a keyboard it will be revolutionary. Especially for keeping up with or integrating with AI, being able to think your response at the speed that your brain processes information. I would really just like a transcript of my inner monologue.
Thanks
i am surprised that it's been 5 years since this was developed and the emergence of GPT hasn't triggered any major company to start developing a prototype that integrates GPT into this type of design. It will sell well, won't it?
Combine it with AR/VR glasses from Apple/Meta đ Exciting times ahead!
This would be popular in the next 15 to 20 years from now in my opinion. Companies like apple would have to constantly evolving it to make it reliable to the masses.
â@@easylife6348Elon musk's Neural link is currently in the lead so far. Only one to have human trials.
Thought projection to images. Im have eye problems that is both muscle and neurlogical. Im a very creative person and yet cant draw or show the images i think of.
I don't understand how he silently asks the computer. Does he do it out loud or does his mind think it for him to ask?
He thinks and the machine can read the thought pattern and translate it into text, then uses that text as the input to Google the answers, then vibrates the answers into his inner ear so he can hear without disrupting those around him.
I have been experiencing a type of mind reading. There is a group of people that possess a machine that enables them to see, hear, and read my thoughts from a distance without any type of wire connections or anything. Has anyone heard of anything like this?
Yes, but it is impossible to prove it.
Yeah its called a "WOMAN"
These are early symptoms of psychosis
â@@Exocet-ep2mk I'm sorry, I can't help it đ
I could hear it to
Stop the world and let me off at the next stop!
So how do you make it so it doesnât accidentally read big jiggling bootyâs
đ good one
If you listen closely when he is repeating the first answer you can hear something telling him the answer right before he says it. I thought it only vibrated on his skull and gave him the answer not actually read it out loud to him like you hear?
I can hear someone telling him the answer.
Listen to what the narrator Says... Vibration to the bone then into Its ear... It uses the the Skull to Produce "soundwaves" ... Search for bone conducting Headphones ;) youre Welcome đ
@@Max.Mustermann. yea not mind reading đ
â@@franklinsaintofficial It is, you are misunderstanding. The technology read his mind and then told him the answer aloud. The technology reads mind, it does not put thoughts into your brainwaves, that's a whole different thing.
Home invaders implanted the device in my head to steal fornulas
How to solve privacy issues and thought abuse from this device
It wont work đ€Ź
I wonder if it would be possible one day learn languages instantaneously with this sort of tech?
learning things required new neurons connection when we learn something. But i think its can be used as translator you can think of sentence in you mind and this will translate in real time
Was gonna say what this person above said, this device isn't giving him any information, like with that question he was asked about the population of a country, he used his mind to Google the answer, he would still have to remember that information, so while with this you could look up translations for different languages but you would still have to remember all those translations and know how to pronounce the words
@@cinnamoncigarettes interesting, I thought he was getting that information directly, but then it wouldnât really be mind reading would it? if itâs not instantaneous and the information does not direct?
@@significantlystrangeboi9929 the device is reading his mind, like when he's asked a question he thinks of the question in his mind and it prompts the device to search for the answer on some kind of search engine, and then gives him the answer in his mind. Trust me I don't fully understand the tech and it sounds very weird and creepy but this is the basics of it. What I said before might have been confusing but what I was trying to say like the device is not like uploading information to his brain, it's just telling him info that it searched and found on a search engine via his mind.
@@significantlystrangeboi9929 a good way of describing it would be like it's siri but in your mind and you only communicate with it through your mind, like siri does not know everything, but she will search the internet to find an answer for questions you ask her. And when she finds that answer she just relays it to you
Bruh I do this with my mobile without any headphones
I can see how this technology sped up could possibly control flight in anti gravity vehicles and drones

Elon should take notice. Not sure if this invention and what Musk is trying to achieve with brain implants, but I thinks this is the way it should progress instead of having surgery to implant something directly in the brain. But I'm just saying.
It's connected to his phone in his pocket and listened to the question asked. Google just responds in his ear. I will only believe this if the question is read and not read out loud.
Wait so technically itâs possible to read also someone else brain.. whatâs he thinking or say loud to his self⊠I see some shady weird military tech incoming.
How to prevent abusive of my own mind đ
Evolutionary intelligence, not artificial intelligence.
What joke, write in the paper something only he can see and without word repeting the question.See what happens
Friends - if they can be called such - they hid roofing felts in the house, they hung "something" somewhere, which then without color (like lenses for the eyes) sit on the eyes as well as the ears and larynx (or wherever else) - they make you such as CGI effects (as I found out - I'm sitting on the street drinking tea - I clearly hear the plane, but from where I see a small drone flying from and only it climbed to a certain level of the eye - it turns into a plane like flying through the sky) they have since realized that they are ( they- no no, we donât glitch at you, but laugh ourselves) already fucked up, Iâll see something like a friend, then Iâll see a car (showed endlessly for a while) what I wanted to buy, but look in the mirror and THERE IS NOTHING THERE !!!! And the sound from the ears s ...... 6al .. then barks(I'm not afraid of dogs) then it chirps, then it turns on the song. And at night they literally lull them to sleep with this electronics and they ask you questions - then in the morning you go to CZcams and they are joking with me naked in the shower, when on a jerk - fuckers in general fetishists (in life, like puppies would crush - prove I canât - suddenly theyâre not - first you need to know what kind of GADGET it is ") I tried to record CZcams through the app and there another gives out a normal video, i.e. they impose somehowThose. they fit on your eye - they make a pixel out of it - the sound of the chip gets into your ears (x ... pull out-small) and then they joke - then they put it, they put it. ALREADY 4 MONTHS OF NO LIVING, no rest - even at night they show the heifers with a specialist (the computer of the krafik is visible) you approach them m.members add to them. In real life, they get shocked, then they grab one place and you donât see themA couple of TIMES THEY CAUGHT LIKE A METAL SEMI-SILICON COLOR THE SIZE OF A MIMETER - SO HE JUMPS OUT AND FLYING AWAY. AND ANOTHER TIME - CLAMPED WITH FINGERS - SHOCKED FUCKED AND ALSO FUCKED PEOPLE PROMPT WHAT A GADGET CAN BE TO EITHER REMOVE OR TELL COPS TO KNOW WHAT TO LOOK FOR. I HOPE TO FIND A PAIR OF GADGET USERS WHO UNDERSTAND WHAT SHIT THIS IS
Stop it... Get some help
I see alot of people asking why did we stop developing this and honestly we got the whole internet in our hands and in our pockets now and it's literally the same concept just without the visual aspect of it. Plus this relies on connecting to a wifi network to work where your phone doesn't. Just seems useless honestly.

Why doesn't the host let the dude read the text himself silently and see if it works, this is just an Alexa headset lmfao you people are dumdumdum
Don't ask tell him to read
