    Some of the most beautiful garden plants are roses, but they take up a lot of space in the garden. So growing them in containers lets you take advantage of the space on a deck or patio, or even on stairways. Planting in pots also offers you more control of moisture levels and exposure to sunlight. Growing potted roses is a good option if your local garden soil is poor and ill-suited for growing good roses. Check out these tips on how to successfully grow roses in containers.

    I've been wanting to try gowing roses for quite awhile. I finally bought bare root a few months ago and it has been doing very well. It produced 4 large blooms the 2nd month. I'm so happy I tried to grow here in Arizona. The more color the better!

    Thank you for taking the time to show how you plant up these roses into containers. I am anxious to see how well they perform for you two. I especially appreciated seeing how much potting mixture you used along with the BioTone and finally the container size used. I will head to our WalMart tomorrow to see if we have similar choices. Additionally, I am so happy you picked the Roald Dahl simply because my children loved his books when they were young, there are many, and our son even played the character Willy Wonka in the school play from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Coincidentally, I also taught high school English so the Lady of Shalott is a favorite because we read Tennyson’s ballad by that name. I love it when roses have a connection for me and I will look for these two to add to my collection. Thank you again. I am enjoying your coffee talks as well. Keep up the good work. You both make me smile when I see you and learn more in the bargain.

    Another good video. I use cedar wood for my potted roses too. Love the smell. I have an adult Julia Child rose tree in a 14 inch width x 12.8 inch height round flower pot. Lots of space to grow.
    This works for me: Rose shrubs can be placed in smaller flower pots. 1 or 2 quart container rose (9.6 inch width x 9.7 inch height), 2 Lady Emma Hamilton bare roots in same pot (bare root-2 quart container) 12 inch width x 11 inch height. 8 inch width x 7.5 inch height (slow growing 1 quart rose shrub). A lot of roses grow up (height) with little width to them.
    The David Austin catalog says to put 2 roses in the same pot for a full and bushy look. Smile.

      @GardenObsessions  Před 2 lety

      A lot of great roses you have there. As far as more than one rose in a pot, that is a choice for the home gardener for an immediate effect but risky to the plants roots.

    What a coincidence that I’m seeing this as I just experienced the same thing y’all did. I got my bareroot roses and immediately put them in water but I couldn’t plant them until 3 days later and into containers. I was really worried that this might have been too long in water as most places suggest a couple hours to a day for soaking but didn’t say the what’s the max. I’m glad I didn’t mess it all up even though I know it’s not optimal. I put them in containers today enough though it’s still a bit cold. Hopefully they make it.

I will plant in the ground my three 'Queen of Sweden' (for my mom and her sisters) and I think I have in mind where I want to eventually plant my 'Alexandra of Kent', but since I'm having my roof replaced thought I'd containerize it until that project is done. This is a tough question because a bare root rose is grown in root stock that is more disease resistant and a bit faster at growing. In the long run they don’t live as long. A own root rose which comes in a 2quart rose can be a bit more finicky and takes longer to grow but in our opinion outperforms in the long run and will survive longer. Don’t worry though cause both will probably outlive any of us.

    This year I received a rose bouquet from my bf - a beautiful combination of shades of pink and purple. I loved them so much that I found and bought the most similar hybrid tea rose bushes - 3 of them. I am planning to put them all in 1 container, and hopefully my bouquet can be recreated in this long-lasting form. I understand the risks, but if you want to have fun, why not? DA are a bit more expensive, but ultimately even if they fail, they're not irreplaceable, especially since they are so popular and will likely be easy to find :)
    I am wondering, however, what do you think: I have seen container growers suggest you can trim the roots if the rose outgrows the pot. It is also a way to keep them smaller if you have no space. I am curious, have you done this? I understand it will probably suffer a shock, but perhaps it can be done during a dormant season to minimize the damage?
    Thanks and keep the videos coming :) You are the reason I bought Lady Emma Hamilton recently - it was so gorgeous in your video. Can't wait to see your new beauties in bloom!

    At the David Austin gardens they do plant 3 plants per pot and actually leave them in the pots like that for ten yrs!! At the DA gardens they have an endless supply of roses so aren't too concerned about the warranty being voided by planting 3 in a pot.

    • @fineartlifestyling
      @fineartlifestyling Před rokem

      The lady from channel “Rose Geek” spoke to the current lead gardener of DA and confirmed that 3 roses in 1 planter is perfectly fine. People have great success with this. But considering the expensive price tag attached to DA roses and if you are a novice gardener then perhaps at first it might be smarter to plant 1 rose per planter. If you have cash to blow, go for it!

      Hello! And yes! As long as you grow the right roses for your climate. In a container they would have to be well watered never let go dry as soil in containers drys faster. We always recommend to order the David Austin catalog it’s free and has a lot of information on roses. From which ones do grow in your climate to the ones that grow better in containers, or obelisk just so much information. We lived in Arizona wish we would of green roses there. 💐🙏💚

      Hello! 20 DAs! 💐 Wonderful! 15 inch pots is really a great size. Just remember in a couple of years they will have to be repotted in bigger containers or in the ground. Roses roots grow fast and if kept in containers outgrown they can start having issues. Happy rose growing! 🙏💐💚
