Is exercise and cycling is sufficent ?
Were the loose pieces you removed cause the knee pain?
I think they contribute to the pain/locking due to the fact there free floating in your knee so it can move around in your knee and cause discomfort. (Obviously not a licensed doctor just did a little research on it!
Does the knee get better if 40 percent of the meniscus is removed ?

Removal of the meniscus can improve symptoms, like swelling, pain, and stiffness. Unfortunately, with less meniscus in the knee joint, risk of arthritis. Damage in changes in the joints are actually higher.
