I believe its due to it being the news. They are aware of their influence, and in america, it's especially not safe for citizens to confront people because the suspect could be armed. As the news, they want to encourage people to value their safety over getting involved. I don't think any of them were mad at the guy, probably just worried, and wanted to use it as a teaching moment for viewers at home to not risk their lives over this.
Public safety issue, they’ve probably been briefed to reprimand when the public intervenes in a chase, including the filming outside your house etc they talked about just before truck dude pulled up. I feel like truck guy wouldn’t have gotten involved if he wasn’t armed, or wasn’t driving a truck, but he was also at the right place right time to help out. IMO if the ‘hero’ doesn’t cause any further intentional or accidental harm to anyone involved, they shouldn’t cop any charges or fines for intervening, just a ‘slap on the wrist’ warning at most. This was a successful case, yet in some other successful cases the ‘hero’ has been so widely praised across the States that they overlook the public safety issue. For an extreme example, there was a c….p… producer who went by Mr Swirl/Spiral whom was wanted by the FBI for yeeeears, then an anonymous tip from someone who viewed the content led to finally tracking the wanted man down. I don’t believe they ever identified the anonymous tipper, and whether they stumbled across the content from their own devious viewing or if they out of vigilance risked their sanity to analyse the content, some still consider them a hero for their intervention that cracked the case 🤷🏼♀️ But as a news commentator, responsibility for public safety is in your job description, and you are expected to adhere to that despite your personal thoughts on it as an individual (just like I have written mine here), because you are a representative of the news network’s thought policies.
