  • I got some cheap security type lug nuts. Now there stripped, thankfully I found a pretty good way to remove them without taking the vehicle into the shop. Of course I wouldn't try this method if you have some really difficult to access lug nuts or some really expensive rims...

If you have cheap Lugnuts like I did a chisel and hammer will put a cut into the lugnut right away with only a couple of hits. Once you have a cut you can start to put more of a turning angle to help loosen the nut from the bolt stud. Of course this will not work on nuts that are recessed into the rims and like I said before I wouldn't try this method if I had some expensive rims either. But it worked well for me with no damage and no cost. Good Luck...

A friend had a similar problem with his Porsche. I seem to remember that the nuts were alloy and that the hexagon was smaller than the "mushroom" at the bottom of the lug nut which was deep in the alloy wheel. The hexagon had of course been rounded-off and abused with chisels but the nut wouldn't budge. I had a hole-saw which was a clearance fit over the M12 stud and deep enough to saw right down to the bottom of the lug nut. With this the wheel was removed in just a couple of minutes. There was no damage to the stud and no damage to the wheel apart from that caused by previous removal attempts with a hammer and chisel. Payment was a cup of tea and a biscuit so I'm never going to be rich, duh!

I was using spare tire method to rotate my tires i did all the tires but on the last one I was doing …… I left a loosened lugnut in the spare tire and accidentally lowered the vehicle and it got stuck on the concrete and I quickly raised it back up after noticing my mistake …. I loosened the lugnut and it loosened im up until half way it would tighten and get stuck …. Do you know how I could get it off ??

My lock nut was damaged by a garage who replaced my brake pads. Now I cant take my wheel off myself. These nuts should be removed by hand operated not power equipment.

Some nimrod hammered the lugs on my jeep when changing the tires with an impact. ( think it may have even been crossthreaded)Been through this a few times before. Would just remove the cap and drive an 18 mm socket on them in the past. That trick didn't work. Went and bought the Irwin nut extractor set, just rounded it off completely. Wound up drilling the stud out with progressively larger drill bits until there was nothing left of the stud and the lug nut fell off. Drive the stud out and replace it. New lug nuts all around with NO cap like the originals.

I had a security locking lugnut on my truck and the key got rusted and ripped the inside out when I tied to use it. I tried several things but what worked for me was to drive a 21mm deep well socket on to the lug nut with a hammer. It was a tight fit and then
