It's hard to say which of the Elktaur's two halves is worse. The Elk/Nowhere King on the one hand chose to lash out at everyone and everything around him out of petty revenge against the General, trying to burn down both worlds so that innocent humans and innocent centaurs alike would all feel as miserable as he did. The General on the other hand was the epitome of selfishness, treating his counterpart terribly to keep the Princess for himself and letting the war continue indefinitely at the expense of his human followers so that he continue to exist. Between the two of them they're responsible for the unnecessary loss of countless lives.

Cartoon strong. Rider was able to hold Horse up in the first episode by the Artifact. I guess even the human world is a bit more cartoony than our world.

This is the main reason why I would have preferred he was saved and rehabilitated dark crystal and star wars style. Because at least the elk was more than happy to confess the truth.

How many DIED when he sent his army of abominations against the worlds? The General’s incarceration wasn’t great for his mental health, but I’m sure the Elk was already thinking of making more creatures like himself if he couldn’t get the life he wanted.

The Elk would do the same as the general and the general would do the same things the elk did. The original elktaur was already selfish, selfcentered (he experimented on a freaking baby! baby plant but still sentient and sapient) and selfhating, the split beeings just practise this in different ways. Also like Horse said it was not love. The whole falling in love with her felt more like stalker logic, love at first sight because she is pretty, than she is nice to him and boom she is the picture of his perfect world to him, but he never listen to what she actually says and want. And after she disapeared (a self sacrifice that he believed killed her) he does nothing to honour her or her sacrifice, because he never split himself for her, only for himself.
This reminds me of the video game SOMA, where, in order to progress, you had to make a perfect copy of your mind, and either the original or new one, it's impossible to tell, got to be in a new body whilst the other is left behind, forever stuck. The Elktaur split himself into two parts, who are essentially the same person except in appearance. They're both copies but one got the shorter end of the stick whilst the other got everything they wanted. It was, and always would be, a coin toss between these two outcomes.

The way the elk was tortured and imprisoned makes me think of the oubliette, a historical torture device which consists of a cramped, tiny cell that was basically a hole in the ground, where prisoners were starved and forgotten and left to go mad. Moreover, these torture cells were mainly reserved for the rivals of nobles, examples being the political enemies of the Normans when France was conquering England around the 1000s. So it might make sense that the general would use an oubliette to seal away his rival who would strip him of both his position and the woman he married by revealing the truth.
That was such an amazing scene. I got to the part of the drowning where it’s like. Oh he’s probably gonna die from drowning and then general started coughing up water. That was so cool.

Same reason as him being drawn more like a human world character than a centaurworld character.
